PCA—It was September 13, 1955 when Porsche Club of America held its first official business meeting, at Blackie’s House of Beef in Washington, DC. Sixty years ago, at our club’s genesis, it was just 12 members strong.

PCA—Porsche debuted its Mission E concept alongside the 991-2 in Frankfurt this evening. While the word has been out on the new turbo Carreras, the small electric sedan is sure to raise some eyebrows. With high style bodywork, a “needs based” all-wheel-drive system, and more than 600 horsepower claimed, this is Porsche’s answer to ever-faster Teslas.

PCA—In this issue, David Mathews squeezes a week of Porsche Parade competition and festivities (including awards) into just 20 pages in "Sixty." In "Real Deal," Mathews profiles a woman and her 356 Speedster that proudly wears its racing-induced patina. In the midst of a stellar year for new Porsche drivers cars, the new Boxster Spyder has received considerably less attention. Pete von Behrens considers whether that's warranted in his review of the car in "Top Down." Years after the 914 went out of production, one fine example scared contemporary racers with its speed in IMSA's GTU series, a car profiled in "The Bus" by Preston Lerner. Kieron Fennelly interviews 1960s Porsche racer Udo Schütz in "The Last Musketeer." Did you expect a weak Pikes Peak Hillclimb this year? Well, it didn't turn out that way, as you'll find out in "New Era" by Sean Cridland.

PCA—Want to go to Rennsport Reunion V (RRV)? On Porsche's dime? Then here's the perfect opportunity to score a trip for two to the largest Porsche gathering, which takes place September 25-27. All you need is a good set of ears and the knowledge to match the exhaust note to the the correct race car in Porsche's online contest (link is external). And perhaps a bit of luck.
Edmunds—Porsche has indicated that it is unlikely to develop another manual gearbox for the 911.

Speaking at a technical presentation for the face-lifted version of the 991 series 911, Thomas Brandl, the engineer responsible for the new engine range, admitted it would be difficult to build a business case for a new manual transmission.

PCA—PCA Club Racers had a blast at Road America over the long Labor Day weekend. Almost 200 Club Racers and another 100 Drivers Ed participants enjoyed TRAC 15 (The Road America Challenge), the 23rd consecutive year of TRAC and 49th year of Drivers Education hosted by the Chicago Region of PCA. This four-day event includes fun races, sprint races, and enduros for the club racers, and plenty of track time for DE participants.
PCA—Entering the final round of the JX2/Pirelli Triple Crown Championship at Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin's Road America, Spencer Cox and John Uglum led the front-runners after Watkins Glen. Harold Petit, Jr. held a small lead over Charles Belluardo for the 3rd podium position.

PCA—Join us at the Lone Star Le Mans this month at the Porscheplatz Hospitality Tent and Porsche Corral! We'll be located at the top of Turn 1, one of the best vantage points at the track. In addition to the normal TUDOR United SportsCar Championship race, there will be a World Endurance Championship race. That means you'll get to see the Porsche 919 Hybrid prototype race car making its rounds.

Road & Track—The manual transmission is on the endangered species list. Every year fewer and fewer cars are offered with a clutch and a shifter. Why? Americans just don't want to be bothered with the chore of working a clutch with their left foot and shifting with their right. And sports car manufacturers are the worst offenders when it comes to quitting on the stick shift. Because the newest computer-controlled automatics can shift more quickly than any human can, engineers see the manual transmission as outdated.
Reuters—Janis Joplin may have famously pleaded for a Mercedes-Benz in her 1970 a cappella song but her car of choice was a psychedelic Porsche that now is going to be sold at auction.

The Post and Courier—The LeMons South fall race next weekend at Carolina Motorsports Park in Kershaw will assemble its usual mix of jaded jalopies, backyard “beaters” and aged speedsters that get docked for showing off their pedigree.

However in this year’s semi-serious event, where all cars are cheap but the racing’s for real, there will be three models from Charleston with stories to tell.

Road & Track—The 2017 Porsche 911 Carrera and Carrera S get all new engines that improve both horsepower and fuel efficiency thanks to an all-new 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged flat-six. Carrera's lumps will peak at 370 hp, 20 more than last year and 45 more pound-feet of torque, for 332 in total.
The Fiscal Times—Porsche's top executive is bidding to lead sports car operations at its parent Volkswagen as Europe's biggest automaker adopts a new structure to boost foreign sales and profits.

The German company is aiming to decentralize, ceding more power to foreign divisions and brands in a bid to boost sales in the United States and other markets and become more nimble, sources told Reuters in June.

Road & Track—​There is one corner on the Nurburgring that you see on YouTube all the time. You know the one. It's an uphill, off-camber, right hander with a gravel trap on the outside. People with cameras love to stand on the outside to see people enter too hot and either bounce off one of the walls or make some sort of amazing save.

Car and Driver—In the 1960s, Sports Cars Illustrated turned into Car and Driver—complete with its own advertising campaign!—reflecting a broader focus that in some ways mirrored the decade-long shift in American culture away from the uptightness of the ’50s. Our pages weren’t just filled with now-iconic vehicle reviews, you-are-there features, and pointed opinion pieces, however. Then, as now, we had to pay the bills, and the advertisers made sure to get their money’s worth by placing memorable ads in SCI and C/D. PCA—Each year, a request is made for the membership’s input into the next year’s PCR’s. Any requests for PCR changes for 2016, must be made in writing by October 01, 2015. They made be submitted to any PCR Committee member as listed in the rulebook on page ii, as listed in Panorama under the Parade staff heading, on the PCA website under PCR Committee or directly to the PCR Committee Chairman, Mike Lommatzsch. Rule change requests can be submitted either in an email or by mailing a request so that it is received on or prior to October 1st. Such requests can be mailed to Mike Lommatzsch.
