Jalopnik—Want a brand new Porsche 918 Spyder? You can’t have one. The last new one rolled off the assembly line this week. It’s that dark red one up there. Go ahead and feel your sadness-feels. 

Porsche announced today that just as they intended all along when they launched the car in 2013, production has ended on the 887 horsepower hybrid-electric hypercar.

Porsche—Time stands still. For the 17th time in over 60 years.

The 919 Hybrid achieves the 17th overall victory for Porsche at the 24h of Le Mans.

PCA—The Porscheplatz at the Mobil 1 SportsCar Grand Prix presented by Hawk Performance at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park is four weeks away and there’s still time to buy your tickets!

Canada’s biggest sports car race of the year, featuring the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship for exotic prototypes and GT race cars, makes its only Canadian stop.  Also in action over the four day event is the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge, Cooper Tires Prototype Lites, Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama, and the SCCA Pro Racing Battery Tender Mazda MX-5 Cup presented by BF Goodrich.

PCA—In the June 2015 issue, Ted West tells the story of a couple's 2002 911 Turbo — which they owned from new and for more than 557,000 miles — in "The First 557,764 Miles." Kerry Morse interviews Patrick Dempsey and Porsche factory driver Patrick Long about their Dempsey-Proton team's World Endurance Championship efforts leading up to Le Mans in "In Stages." If you like 944s, you'll love the story about this meticulously preserved, tastefully modified 1988 944 Turbo S in "Sterling Silber" by Tom M'Guinness. Porsche guru Bruce Canepa built a 356 "transition car" as seen in "Outlaw" by Doug Neilson, a radical vision of what a 356-911 stopgap model could have been. Kieron Fennelly interviews Bernd Kauhna, a project manager for four generations of 911 — 993, 996, 997, and 991 — in "The 911 Maker."

PCA—The Porsche Club of America will hold it's second annual Werks Reunion Friday, August 14, 2015. It is the premier Porsche event during the world-famous "Monterey Car Week" on California's Monterey Peninsula. Thousands of spectators are expected to descend on the fairways at Rancho Cañada Golf Club and will be treated to a stunning display of more than 700 Porsches — from “rat rods” to garage queens — and enjoy the camaraderie of fellow car enthusiasts.

Black Flag via Jalopnik—I spent most of my time at the Austrian Grand Prix at the GP2 paddock with Racing Engineering, and while their support quad did a fine job as a tow vehicle, Porsche Motorsport’s rather impractical golf cart took the crown easily.

Reuters—Porsche (VOWG_p.DE) has bought the machine tool unit of industrial robot maker Kuka (KU2G.DE) to enhance production of sports cars amid a growing use of lightweight materials.

Carmakers like Porsche are increasingly using aluminium, carbon fibre and other lightweight substances to help comply with rigid carbon emission limits for their vehicles in Europe, China and other regions.
