As you know, Porsche Club of America delivers e-Brake News to your inbox every Tuesday. This is the November monthly recap.

1. Macan gets GTS treatment, loses 'bargain' price [w/video]

PCA—Porsche’s GTS family just got a little larger when the automaker announced last night the 2017 Macan GTS, a twin-turbocharged compact SUV that slots between the Macan S and the Turbo and aims to provide a more involving driving experience.

2. 'Synthetic' as the word relates to motor oil

PCA—So you just purchased a case of what you believe to be high-quality synthetic motor oil from your local auto parts store or online retailer. How much of it is really the high-quality synthetic you think you bought? Although the majority of the big-name manufacturers offer them, it is widely accepted among industry experts that oils labeled “synthetic” are not equal, and some are not fully synthetic.

Let’s start our analysis with some background on the current, loose definition of synthetic oil, which is, an oil containing base stock that was synthesized through an intended chemical reaction. Crucially, there are no federal guidelines for using the word synthetic in the sale and distribution of motor oil in the U.S. As a result, the current definition stems from a complaint brought before the Better Business Bureau‘s National Advertising Division (NAD) on March 1, 1999 by Mobil regarding Castrol Syntec motor oil.

4. Video: PCA Spotlight - Cayman GT4 Clubsport project head talks details of race car

PCA—PCA visited the LA Auto Show last weekend and witnessed the world premiere of the Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport race car. As exciting as that was, soon after we spoke with GT4 Clubsport Project Manager Matthias Scholz about the car.

5. 2017 911 Carrera and Carrera S first drive: live updates [w/video]

PCA—Porsche Panorama Editor Pete Stout is in Spain to drive the new 991-2-generation 911 Carrera and Carrera S for the first time. Their new, turbocharged 3.0-liter flat sixes mark the largest departure from 911 tradition since Porsche switched from air-cooled to water-cooled engines, threatening the character of the 911 that enthusiasts love. Find out if that's the case based off of Pete's initial impressions, and go ahead and ask him questions on PCA's Facebook page.

There's a good chance he'll answer your question with input from Porsche engineers and representatives on hand for the road tests. Look for an in-depth review of the turbo Carrera and Carrera S in a future issue of Panorama.
