PCA—In top-level racing there is a handful young drivers who also are avid car collectors, and the owner of this 911 SC is one of them.
This Porsche, however, is hardly a collector car, rather a strengthened, protected, off-road-ready driver that's more at home on dirt than pavement. It's the perfect form of recreational transportation for professional racer Leh Keen.

PCA—It was June and I was doing yard work when my neighbor across the street walked over and asked a question. She had noticed my recent car projects — a 1988 Land Rover Defender (UK import) and a 1973 Triumph TR6 — and thought I might be interested in a car she had kept in storage for a few years.

“Sure, what is it?” I replied. “A Porsche 911,” she answered.

PCA—In this issue, Tom M’Guinness interviews PCA National Historian RJ Wilmoth about the history of the club in “Roots: PCA at 60.” Pete Stout introduces us to Felix, the 19-year-old son of Dr. Wolfgang Porsche who attended his first Porsche Parade this year, in “The Natural.” Five members who won the chance to purchase the 911 GTS Club Coupe took a special European delivery of their cars, as told by John D’Angelo in “On Winning.” Want to drive your Porsche how it was meant to be driven? Professional racer Leh Keen’s personal 911 SC has been modified to go just about anywhere, as you’ll find out in “Safari 911” by Tom M’Guinness. Autocar—It has taken us more than 18 hours, with multiple transfers, to get to Yellowknife, in Canada’s Northwest Territories, from Germany. But there’s a good reason for it. We have been fortunate enough to be asked to join Porsche’s severe winter tests of the next-generation Porsche Boxster.

Alex Ernst, the chief conductor of this secret test, explains to us that even though there are other possible locations in northern Europe with the similar latitude, such as Ivalo or Rovaniemi, both in Finland, Yellowknife is better suited to this type of testing because of the consistency of the low temperatures – around -20deg C – from December through to March.

Boldride—Let's just get something straight, rally drivers have a screw loose. Heck, they may not even have any screws. To drive 120 miles per hour in seven-foot wide sections of forest on gravel and ice, you need to be absolutely out of your mind. We know, we've done it.
 
PCA—On Friday Nov. 13, Speedsport Tuning, JRZ Suspensions, and Toyo Tires tested and tuned a Cayman S for the new PCA Club Racing Spec Cayman (SPC) class.

Automobile—It's not even 9 a.m., and we already have our first shouting match. Faint growls start down in the valley and then can be heard growing louder through the esses up the hill, the stereophonic sonata building to a crescendo as the two German baritones appear over the brow—and abruptly end their duet just before the pavement expires where a new bridge is being built. The street music composed by the 2017 Mercedes-AMG C63 S Coupe sounds so familiar and yet somewhat different, like the voice of your son after puberty. The 2017 Porsche 911 Carrera S still plays a version of that catchy tune only flat-six engines raised in Weissach can intonate, though the engine’s character has evolved during the half century after its creation from a hoarse, rev-hungry purebred into a well-mannered and remarkably refined jack-of-all-trades.

Jacksonville.com—An iconic group of high-end Jacksonville automobile dealerships with historic ties to endurance racing across the world has been sold to the Fields Auto Group.

Brumos Automotive, which operates seven dealerships on Jacksonville’s Westside and Arlington area, including a 56-year-old Porsche sales and racing operation on Atlantic Boulevard, told its employees late Wednesday morning that the operations had been sold.

Parade is PCA’s most significant annual event. The size and scope of of them has expanded and grown, and so has the support from event sponsors. Clearly it is a full-fledged national convention. In an effort to avoid delays during registration, hotel reservations and event registration will be separate.

GTSpirit—Porsche has crossed the 200,000th mark in annual sales for the first time in its history, delivering 209,894 cars from January to November 2015. Even so, the German car maker is yet to include the December 2015 deliveries – the new milestone corresponds to a 24 percent increase in comparison to the same period in 2014.
 
 Road & Track—Next year Porsche will launch the latest versions of the Boxster and Cayman, now renamed to 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman. While we can expect the same evolutionary design changes, there will be some bigger changes than just the names.
 
Road & Track—2015 was a big year for Patrick Dempsey. Not only did the "Made of Honor" star depart ABC medical drama "Grey's Anatomy", he would complete his first full season in the FIA World Endurance Championship and get his first-ever class win in top-level sports car competition. 2016 won't be so big, however, as with the closure of Porsche Team Manthey's factory GTE-Pro team, the Dempsey-Proton Porsches the actor drove in GTE-Am will step up to the all-professional category with factory support from the Stuttgart manufacturer.

 As a result, Dempsey is not expected to drive in the World Endurance Championship in 2015. His name will remain on the cars, as is required by his two-year contract, but they are to instead be driven by Porsche's factory aces.

Racer—One of the announcements at Porsche's traditional Night of Champions gala Saturday night in Weissach, Germany included the news that factory racing driver Patrick Long will return to compete in Pirelli World Challenge for the EFFORT Racing Porsche team in 2016.

PCA—PCA—The Executive Council has appointed Ken Hold, Bluegrass Region; Jennifer Webb, Upper Canada Region; and Tom Provasi, Loma Prieta Region as members of the 2016 Nominating Committee. The committee is carrying out its responsibilities in accordance with the Bylaws, the National Manual of Procedures, and the Region Procedures Manual. Its goal is to consider, identify, and select the best possible slate of candidates to fill the Officer roles in our Executive Council and lead the Porsche Club of America for the next two year term. As part of this process, the Committee actively seeks feedback from PCA’s regions on those talented individuals who have the enthusiasm, dedication, and leadership to serve on the Executive Council. UPDATE (11-5-2015): The deadline to get suggestions to any member of the committee has been extended to no later than December 31, 2015. The photo was taken in front of an old gold dredge on the Cosumnes River in Northern California, late in the afternoon with light clouds filtering the sun. I used my old iPhone so the resolution is a bit grainy, but I liked the effect. My car is obviously no trailer queen and I drive it like a Porsche was designed to be driven.”
