PCA—Porsche Club of America finished 2015 with 116,016 total members, a record for the club and the first time membership has risen above 116,000 — further solidifying PCA as the largest single-marque car club in the world.

Car and Driver—Porsche is working on a plug-in-hybrid version of the next-generation 911, but we’re told that a pure EV hasn’t moved beyond the planning stage. Instead, the only EV in Porsche’s near future is the production version of the Mission E concept the company has already announced it is building.

PCA—In this issue, learn what it feels like to drive six new 911s back to back, from the Carrera to the RSR race car in Michael Harley’s “The Whole Enchilada.” In Preston Lerner’s “The Family RSR,” Mark Hotchkis races this 1973 911 RSR at Rennsport Reunion V 38 years after his father John raced it at Le Mans. Ever wonder what goes into an episode of Jerry Seinfeld’s Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee? We find out behind the scenes, in Sean Cridland’s “Behind the Coffee.” Porsche builds a long-wheelbase Panamera, but the distance between this race car's axles is four inches longer than normal for a different reason, as you’ll see in Bill Oursler’s “RS 61L: The mysterious spyder.” Protective films and car wraps have advanced greatly in the past couple of decades, so read Doug Neilson’s “Film at Eleven” for the information you should know before wrapping your Porsche.
 
Fortune—Porsche unveiled its new 911 Turbo and 911 Turbo S models at this week’s Detroit auto show. The car, a mid-cycle refresh, is just what enthusiasts have come to expect from the German performance-car company’s latest—faster, better, stronger. But the luxury auto maker has some big changes afoot, including more plug-in hybrids, the first all-electric Porsche and the fate of its diesel Cayenne.

PCA—Won't be able to attend the 25th annual 48 Hours at Sebring PCA Club Race? Have friends or relatives competing in the kick-off race of PCA's 2016 season? Follow along on the 48 Hours of Sebring Live Blog. The goal of the blog is to give you a feel for what you would experience if you were there. The cars, the racing, and the people will all be featured. Coverage will begin Friday morning, February 5, and continue through Saturday.
Friday evening will feature special coverage of an exciting new feature of the event called "Speed Showcase." Speed Showcase is a social event which allows vendors to interact with club members. The highlight will be a very special presentation by Porsche Motorsports North America. Watch for it.

AutoWeb—Weight reduction is a succinct but insufficient way to explain why Porsche engineers gave the first-generation Boxster Spyder an incredibly complex roof mechanism, a skimpy bikini that barely kept occupants dry. Derided by many as over-engineered and unpractical, the removable roof did, however, reflect engineering’s prime objective — to build the ultimate open-air sports car for the driving enthusiast.
