PCA—​In 2012 CocoMats.com Vice President Drew Phythian visited PCA’s National Office to show us his company’s sturdy coco fiber floor mats. In late 2015, CocoMats.com returned the favor and invited PCA to its nondescript factory in South Carolina, where we recorded the floor mat-making process.

PCA—The Cayman GT4 Clubsport Trophy East schedule press release last week incorrectly stated the race dates for Watkins Glen. The PCA Club Racing schedule correctly lists the dates as June 3-5.

Kickstarter—One of the greatest teams in sports car racing history was an unstoppable duo. Drivers Hurley Haywood and Peter Gregg won races together for a decade before tragedy struck.

Hurley Haywood was just a college kid in 1969 when Peter Gregg recognized his talent and took him under his wing. Just a few years later, Haywood and Gregg won the 1973 24 Hours of Daytona and the 12 Hours of Sebring back-to-back.

Autoweek—Some Porsche purists may still roll their eyes at the Cayenne (and the Macan), but there's a precedent for their favorite marque building 4x4s. In a couple of weeks, a rare piece of Porsche history will roll across the block at Amelia Island as Gooding & Co. offers a 1958 Porsche 597 Jagdwagen.
 
The Smoking Tire via YouTube—The Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport is Porsche's factory-built race car based on the incredible Cayman GT4 road car. Designed for the Continental Tire series. Unlike the roadgoing version of the GT4, the Clubsport has the 7-speed PDK gearbox, steel brakes rather than ceramics, and of course a roll cage rather than a leather and suede interior. It also runs on slick tires and race fuel.

Maxim—Since Porsche's birth in 1948 in Gmund, Austria, the company's cars have been focused on speed. At first the challenge was how to wring maximum performance from the available parts—in this case, Volkswagen Beetle running gear.

Black Flag via Jalopnik—There’s something about this immaculately clean and shiny 90-degree turbocharged V4 with its bright bubblegum-hued connectors and fittings that screams “Please stuff me into a 914.” This powered a very different P-car than the Chump racer you found in a field, though: Porsche’s Le Mans-winning 919.

Petrolicious—Singer Vehicle Design has, without question, made an indelible mark on the classic car community. I can’t imagine many people reading this who haven’t already seen Rob Dickinson’s work online, in print, or in the metal. GQ’s raved about it, every buff book on the magazine rack has gone full fanboy, and all of Tumblr can’t seem to find a photo of one that isn’t worth a “reblog”.

Dusty Old Thing—If one man’s claims are true, we could get the answer to a 55-year-old mystery that’s potentially worth $1 million! A man in Whatcom County, Washington, says he knows the whereabouts to James Dean’s infamous Porsche 550 Spyder, the car he was driving when his life was tragically cut short in 1955.

MultiBriefs—There's a meme circulating on social media featuring a six-speed shift knob and the caption "millennial anti-theft device," suggesting people between the ages of 21 and 35 have no idea how to change gears with a clutch pedal. Less than 4 percent of new cars sold in 2013 were stick shift, according to Edmunds.
 
World Car Fans—Porsche will have an undisclosed special edition model on display early next month at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show.

Without going into any details, Porsche says it has prepared a “strictly limited-edition vehicle” for the 86th edition of the Geneva show.

evo—I’m leering over a Porsche RS Spyder but it might as well be a smelly old RS Fiesta. What’s more, the duck-tailed 2.7 RS I passed by on the way in from the car park is merely a distant memory, and as for the newly minted turbocharged Carrera in the adjacent room, well, frankly I couldn’t give a toss.

MarketWatch—German prosecutors on Thursday urged a regional court to fine Porsche SE EUR807 million ($895.7 million) and sentence two former top executives to more than two years in prison each for allegedly lying to investors during their aborted 2008 take over of rival car maker Volkswagen AG.
 
Road & Track—Engines designed for racing are quite different than those built for street use. The former lives its life near the redline for hours at a stretch, where the latter has to deal with the grind of commuting. That's why street cars with proper racing engines are as rare as they are special.
