Volkswagen Group chairman Ferdinand Piëch told the law firm handling the automaker's internal probe that he tried to question ex-CEO Martin Winterkorn about the diesel emissions issue a month before the news broke of the EPA cheating, and that Winterkorn said that he had it under control, according to German news outfit Bild am Sonntag.
