PCA—For the latest issue of Porsche Panorama, a bit of brainstorming planted a seed for an unlikely story: What would happen if we pit a 944 Turbo against a Macan GTS on track.

PCA—In the US and Canada, 1978 marked the beginning of another golden era of the air-cooled Porsches. The 911 now came as one model, the 911 SC, for Super Carrera.

PCA—In this issue, we pit a 944 Turbo against a Macan GTS at VIR with pro racer David Donohue at the wheel, in "Generation Gap" by Norman Mayersohn — and be sure to click here to watch the video. Get a tour of The Collier Collection from the man who owns it in John Lamm's story, "The Collier Collection." One member decided to restore his 356 Carrera 2 himself — and took 17 years to do it, as documented in "17 Years of Hard Labor" by Kris Clewell. In "Long May You Run" by Randy Wells, learn the story of a special 1967 911S that has been raced since new. Learn what not to do when you're considering a caliper rebuild in Doug Neilson's "Braking Bad."
 
PCA—Join us for the Porscheplatz at Road America, August 5 and 6 for the Continental Road Race Showcase. The Porscheplatz is located  at Turn 5, and provides a great view of all the racing action. You can also relax in the tent, enjoy a cool beverage, and watch the races via live feed TV.  “Porsche Only” parking will be available at the "Porsche Park."

PCA—As many Porsche Parade attendees know, there are many competitive events that happen throughout the week, ranging from driving events such as autocross, TSD rally, and gimmick rally to non-driving events such as concours, radio-controlled concours, and more. While you may find event results on the Parade website home page, we're also linking them here on PCA.org.
 
PCA—A popular PCA member benefit is The Mart, the club’s classifieds section online and in each issue of Porsche Panorama. Mart Fresh is a bi-weekly column in which PCA media staff pick what they think are the "freshest" Porsches currently available, and then attempt to explain their reasoning. Up this week are a 1983 944, 1982 911 SC, and a 2010 Cayenne S.

Motor1—I know I’m going to get a ton of hate mail for the title of this review, but damnit, I stand by that statement. Hunkered down in Sport Plus mode, barreling down Angeles Crest Highway north of Los Angeles, I’m convinced the car I’m driving is a four-door Porsche 911.

Petrolicious—I’ve been in love with cars ever since my four-year-old paws grasped a pink Matchbox Alfa Carabo. (Was ever a 1968 concept car more 1970s?) It was a fitting choice, as I’ve always been drawn to the more eclectic end of the automotive spectrum; friends are frequently bemused when I stride past modern Aston Martins and Bentleys without sparing them a second glance, only to zealously eulogize over something like a Suzuki SC100 Whizzkid or a Peugeot 309 Goodwood.

Saskatoon Starphoenix—A man with bone cancer lived his dream of riding in a Porsche on Thursday, thanks to the local branch of the Porsche Club of America.

Mike Simard was able to ride around the Saskatoon dealership in a black 1978 Porsche 911 and a red 2006 Porsche Carrera S before the rain drove everyone back inside to visit.

Motor Trend—The 911 Turbo S Exclusive Series is an all-options-checked Turbo S with a host of limited-edition features including a new Aerokit, rear fascia, black calipers, exhaust, fender plates, and one-off Golden Yellow Metallic paint.
 
The Drive—Not a single day goes by that we don't marvel at what goes on over at the Revs Institute. Between compassionate preservation efforts (not restorations) and their regular vintage racing floggings, these cars lead extraordinary lives that deserve more attention than they really get.

Car and Driver—German automakers are masters of spinning a single nameplate into an extensive spread of variants, with none better at doing so than Porsche. The Stuttgart-based brand slices its hallmark 911 into 22 slivers of body, powertrain, and drivetrain combinations. Now Porsche’s four-door car is getting in on that action with a subtle stretch of the roofline that spawns a second body style called the Panamera Sport Turismo.

Petrolicious—Generally speaking, when you meet someone driving a 904/Carrera GTS you can assume that they’re up to some interesting stuff, but when they tell you that they keep said car in a collection of Porsches surrounded by one one the world’s most respected chandelier restoration and manufacturing shops, your eyebrows rise a bit more.

The Drive—By now, you've seen us talk about this Porsche 964 rust repair project being undertaken by Larry Kosilla of AMMO NYC. It's absurd in its intricacies, and we're having a hard time believing anyone would go to such lengths to make a rusty 964 whole again.

Motor1—With the exception of the monster GT2 RS, there’s nothing above the Turbo S Exclusive Series in Porsche’s massive 911 lineup when it comes to power. Its biturbo 3.8-liter engine pushes out a monstrous 607 hp (446 kilowatts) and 553 pound-feet (750 Newton-meters) of torque, yet Edo Competition has found a way to squeeze more muscle from the flat-six.

MultiBriefs—The naturally aspirated flat-six has always had a special place in the hearts of Porsche purists. If the engine is cooled by God's good air, then it is even more heartwarming. The connection between man and machine is just more pure without forced induction.

Oversteer by Autotrader—If you've been paying attention to the sports-car world in the last few months, here's something you already know: The most-hyped sports car on the market today is the Porsche 911R. It came out last year with an original MSRP of around $160,000, but some have traded hands on the secondary market for $500,000 or more.

Motor Trend—Volkswagen’s diesel scandal had wide-ranging consequences across its brands, and Porsche is no exception. After the Cayenne Diesel was named as an offender in the international kerfuffle, Porsche has been turning its attention to electrified vehicles. As it moves in this direction, Porsche may drop diesel engines from its lineup all together.

Oversteer by Autotrader—These days, both race cars and street cars are faster than ever. The laps around Le Mans today are now almost as fast as they were before the chicanes were installed on the Mulsanne straight back in 1989. Strangely, though, despite the constant quest by manufacturers to be faster than anyone else on the Nurburgring, the ultimate lap record set at the Nurburgring's "Nordschleife" track (the famous "North Loop") by the Porsche 956 at the 1983 Nurburgrning 1000km has been standing ever since. How can that be?

Road & Track—Remember back in September when that one 1995 Porsche 911 GT2 sold for $2.4 million at auction? It set the air-cooled market ablaze, and presumably made other GT2 owners very happy. We have to imagine most of the 57 GT2s produced sit in climate-controlled garages now, but this particular example leads a slightly different life.

I felt that the beautiful autumn colors were a perfect match for my paint-to-sample Gulf Orange Porsche. I special-ordered the 2014 model to replace my tangerine 1972 911T Targa, which I purchased new and owned for 41 years.”
