e-Brake News: Four races scheduled in 2017 for PCA Club Racing’s new Vintage Race Group [w/video]

PCA—Building on the success of the inaugural Vintage Race Group at the Potomac Region Silver Anniversary Club Race at Summit Point last year, PCA Club Racing is pleased to announce the four-event schedule for 2017. These vintage races will be run at four regional club-racing events.

PCA—Last spring, Pacific Northwest Region held an event called “GT1 Show & Tell” at Cantrell Motorsports, and those able to attend were in for a real treat. Tony Callas, owner of Callas Rennsport and a former head mechanic for the Daytona-winning Rohr Motorsports 911 GT1 (pictured above), joined notable Porsche historian Randy Leffingwell and professional racer Andy Pilgrim to speak about motorsports and the evolution of the 911.

PCA—While Porsche had successfully used turbocharging in racing since 1972, it was not until 1975 (1976 in the US) that the company implemented the technology for road-going models. Characterized by its flared fenders and whale-tail rear spoiler, the 911 Turbo became the performance benchmark for the sports car industry upon its introduction.

PCA—“Do you have any Porsche cars?” I asked the grizzly old-timer behind the counter. “I have most of them, but I’m always looking for something rare.”

You see, I am a collector of Porsche vehicles. Sports cars, race cars, sports utility vehicles, anything with the name Porsche on it.

Rennlist—In the ’70s, Porsche was looking for a sports car that could take the fight to Japanese automakers. The result was the short-lived 914 that was designed by Porsche and had an engine from Volkswagen. The vehicle wasn’t exactly popular, which caused production for the car, and the more powerful 914/6, to come to a halt in 1976.

Road & Track—To access the Porsche Carrera GT's motor, all you had to do was pop open the engine lid. In the 918 Spyder, things are a little bit different. Essentially, all of the rear bodywork has to be removed, as well as the exhaust system.
 
Petrolicious—The mythical yet existent Aurora Borealis is one of the world’s most strikingly beautiful and surreal sights to behold, and so seeking them out is a special occasion indeed. Here in Iceland, many people both local and native venture into the frozen north to catch a sight of the saturated ribbons of light hanging from the sky.

Petrolicious—In 1983, this Porsche 928S lined up dead last for the start of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Running but unclassified, it finished some 238 laps behind the winner. At the race again in 1984, it finished again, in 22nd place. And no, it wasn’t as fast as the factory-supported or privateer Porsche 911s.

Unfortunately, Porsche has restricted the RSR to factory teams since its release back in November. But that may be about to change, according to this latest report.

Autoblog—Members of the Porsche-Piëch clan that controls Volkswagen will no longer be eligible to serve as executives of the carmaker, Porsche Automobil Holding SE Chairman Wolfgang Porsche told a German newspaper. "That no family member is active in the operating business must apply to Porsche SE and the whole Volkswagen group," Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung quoted him as saying in an interview published on Saturday.
