PCA—A popular PCA member benefit is The Mart, the club’s classifieds section online and in each issue of Porsche Panorama. Mart Fresh is a bi-weekly column in
which PCA media staff pick what they think are the "freshest" Porsches currently available, and then attempt to explain their reasoning. Up this week are a 1997 Boxster, 1979 928, and 1988 928 S4. | | Good Day Sacramento via YouTube—CRAB37 is an event that has a long history in the Sacramento area that brings together hundreds of Porsche enthusiasts for a weekend of social and competitive
events celebrating all things Porsche. Ashley Williams is stopping by to learn more! |
| | PCA—With springtime comes a staple of Porsche Club of America, the Spring 2018 Member Only Raffle, and we’re giving away a Porsche 718 GTS — Boxster or Cayman — plus $25,000 cash as the grand prize. After the initial 8,500 entries, another grand prize will be added for every additional 4,000 entries sold. |
| | Edmunds—I will admit to, at times, being overly snobbish about other people's cars. When seeing someone driving a base Porsche 911 Carrera on the road, for instance, I might mutter, "Peh, dude, you only got the base 911? So lame." Never mind that I'm probably driving a Honda CR-V at the time and that I do not have the wherewithal to afford much more than the 911's
tires. |

clubs, owners, and enthusiasts to Werks Reunion Monterey on Friday, August 24. Werks Reunion was created by the Porsche Club of America as an event to celebrate both the Porsche marque as well as the camaraderie of being an enthusiast.

PCA Club Racing—The Porsche Club of America (PCA) Club Racing Trophy East Series competed in the series’ second event over the weekend at scenic Barber Motorsports Park.
| | |
| | Roadshow by CNET—The GTS models are the most expensive versions of Porsche's new 718 Boxster and Cayman. Yet the automaker calls them a "value proposition for the performance enthusiast." Contradictory as that may sound, I promise, the proof is in the pudding. |
PCA—Join us at the Porsche Club of America Car Corral for the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear at the Raceway at Belle Isle Park, Detroit Michigan, June 1-3, 2018. The event will feature the cars of the Verizon IndyCar Series, the IMSA WeatherTech Sports Car Championship, the high-flying trucks of the SPEED Energy Stadium SUPER Trucks and the Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli.
| | The Drive—Porsche brought Mark Webber out to Germany to take its Mission E sedan prototype out for a spin on the Weissach test track. Weissach is a short, 1.5 mile course with tight corners. This makes it ideal for displaying the Mission E's handling prowess.

PCA—Described as a museum springing to life, the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion is the largest event held during the famed Monterey Classic Car Week, and is the only event where vintage race cars are doing what they were originally intended to do…race. And what better way to enjoy this step back into history than to watch the races from the PCA Car Corral and Hospitality Tent? The Car Corral and Hospitality Tent are open to PCA members and Porsche owners. This year our Corral and Tent are located inside Turn 5. For those of you that attended the Porscheplatz at Laguna Seca, you know this is probably one of the primo-viewing areas on the track.

| | Roadshow by CNET—Look, I'm sure the new Porsche 911 GT3 RS is a fantabulous machine; editor-in-chief Tim Stevens just raves about it. But I firmly believe that a high-performance car is only as good as the standard model on which its based, and indeed, so many of the things that make the GT3 RS great are attributes baked into every single flavor of the delicious Porsche
911. |

Motorweek via
YouTube—Our globe trotting Garick Zikan hopped off a plane in Montpelier, France to give the 2019 Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid a proper la bise.
Road & Track—Somebody once wrote, "you become a folk guitarist to meet girls, but you end up talking to other middle-aged men about your fingernails." By the same token, I became a track rat to experience high speeds, but I've ended up talking to other middle-aged men about brake compounds. It always surprises me what my friends and fellow drivers don't know about brakes, brake pads,
brake fluid, and other topics along these lines. Sometimes it surprises me what I don't know.

| | Jalopnik—The Nürburgring 24 Hours was the most insane car party I’ve ever been to, but behind all the wild campgrounds, there was still a race going on. Manthey Racing driver Laurens Vanthoor set a new pole-winning lap record for the Nürburgring 24 Hours in the No. 911 Porsche 911 GT3 R, and hot dang, it is fast. |
Jalopnik—The 2018 Porsche 911 Carrera T is like a Ghost of Good Cars Past. Except it’s real, and here to restore your faith in the current state of cars. This is the new lightweight 911 and it’s easy to enjoy but difficult to master. It’s a little too intense for casual use and pretty much the perfect modern Porsche.
Roadshow by CNET—Porsche will recall nearly 60,000 diesel SUVs in Europe because German authorities say they have illegal emissions-cheating software, Bloomberg reports. The German regular KBA says the recall affects 52,831 Macans with the 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 engine and 6,755 Cayennes with the 4.2-liter turbodiesel V8. |
| | Petrolicious—Richard Attwood knows his way around the cockpit of a Porsche race car. He brought the manufacturer its very first overall victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1970, when he and co-driver Hans Herrmann outdrove the Ferrari 512Ses—and the Martini 917s—for more than 340 laps on the Circuit de la Sarthe in a red-and-white Porsche 917K entered and operated by Porsche KG
Salzburg. 18 additional overall Porsche wins would follow in the wake of this one, but your first time is special, right? |

Autoweek—There are many ancient philosophical debates that have plagued mankind for centuries: What is the meaning of life?
Do we really have free will or is it just an illusion?
Why
do good things happen to really rotten people?
And:
Why should I buy a 911 if the 718 is so danged good?
| | |
| | Roadshow by CNET—We've already reviewed the bonkers, 680-horsepower PHEV variant, but if your budget lies closer to the $100,000 mark, this base-model Panamera 4 Sport Turismo will still check all your boxes. It looks great, it drives like a sports car without being uncomfortable and its cabin tech is mighty impressive. |
Road & Track—Did you know the 996- and 997-generation Porsche 911 Targas were hatchbacks? I did not know this.
Motor1—Porsche has never developed a diesel engine and it’s not about to begin now when the company is shifting focus towards electrification. While previous statements from company officials had suggested the death of the diesel at Porsche, this type of engine will stick around for a while. You can’t have it now, but the Cayenne will likely receive one in the foreseeable future. |

| | Business Insider—The new Porsche Panamera is one of our favorites here at Business Insider. In fact, the Panamera is so good that it bagged Business Insider's 2017 Car of the Year Award. The Porsche sedan beat out contenders like the Chevrolet Bolt, the McLaren 720S, and the BMW 5-Series to nab the honor. |
Motor1—The electrification of the automobile isn't just a fad and is only growing as a way to move our cars. In a rousing new video, Porsche showcases some of its past efforts at electrifying its models, features some current ones, and teases the future.
| | Road & Track—Porsche's top-tier 911 RSR race car may not be rear-engined anymore, but it still uses a wonderfully brutal naturally aspirated flat-six engine. Here it is sans-mufflers testing to its limit at Monza.Watch Video |

Star Region. "Here’s my Bahama Yellow 1969 912, in a strip mall parking lot in Houston. This was in early April last year, which in Houston is really the last month in which you want to be driving around without air conditioning — hence the open window, something rarely seen here. On this particular evening, I’d decided to risk a parking lot door-ding by taking the 912 to pick up some take-out food. Looking back at the car after I’d parked it — I can never resist — I was
struck by how the car looked as it was lit by the setting sun. I snapped the photo using my iPhone, and got a good result." Got a stunning shot you want to share? Submit your pictures to potw@pca.org. Be sure to include your contact information, your
region name, and a few sentences about your picture. |
