The Slovenian company didn't venture into systems for cars until the mid-2000s. It's first four-wheeled project? Making the 2008 Porsche 911 GT2 sound and perform as great as possible. |

version called the Cayman. We’re here to talk about the third-generation Boxster and Cayman, known internally as the 981, the last of Porsche’s mid-engined sports cars to use a naturally aspirated flat six in all model variations.
Car and Driver called the manual Boxster “a squirming bundle of wondrous joy.”
Edmunds reported the manual Cayman “attacks apexes as if laser-guided.” Jalopnik said the Boxster S was “one of the best cars you can buy today.” The automotive press had mostly great things to say about the 981 upon its launch, and as the model line expanded to include GTS models, the exquisite Cayman GT4 street-legal track weapon, and stripped-down and powered-up Boxster Spyder, consumers had what seemed like endless choices to pick a 981 that suited their needs
best.

| | Road & Track—When Porsche announced that it was bringing a 956 and its uncorked 919 EVO LMP1 machine to the Nürburgring, we hoped that meant a record attempt was in order. In 1983, after all, the all-time Nürburgring Nordschleife lap record, a 6:11.13 was set by driver Stefan Bellof in a 956. The 919, fresh off its blistering Spa lap record, looked like it could go and beat
it. |

| | Motor1—You good people must have figured out by now that Motor1.com has a soft spot for onboard acceleration videos and this week we’ve been blessed with three already – Ferrari 488 Pista, McLaren 720S, and the Ford GT. Now comes the fourth clip, showing the brutal Porsche 911 GT2 RS being pushed hard all the way up to 186 mph (300 kph) with the traction control turned off to the delight of
purists with an affinity for RWD machines. |
Automobile—Some eight-or-so years ago, the newly minted 2011 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS and its fresh acronymic title attracted a fair share of scrutiny. Aside from the handful of semi-cosmetic GTS trims on the bygone 928 and the Cayenne, a comprehensive GTS package was a new, scary thing. For some, it made the 911 (and Panamera) lineup more confusing than ever, serving as a cynical cash-grab that was too expensive for a non-GT
product. | | |

The Drive—There is a road on the side of a mountain near Nakanojō in Gunma prefecture, Japan, that when driven at the correct speed plays a familiar song, Itsumo Nando Demo from the credits of the 2001 animated film Spirited Away. Porsche learned of this and released a short video of this road in a video Monday.Watch Video
| | PCA—Described as a museum springing to life, the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion is the largest event held during the famed Monterey Classic Car Week, and is the only event where vintage race cars are doing what they were originally intended to do…race. And what better way to enjoy this step back
into history than to watch the races from the PCA Car Corral and Hospitality Tent? The Car Corral and Hospitality Tent are open to PCA members and Porsche owners. This year our Corral and Tent are located inside Turn 5. For those of you that attended the Porscheplatz at Laguna Seca, you know this is probably one of the primo-viewing areas on the track.

Petrolicious—If you’re into motorsport, there’s a chance that you enjoy a good one-make series—spec-racing, Challenges, Cups, that type of thing. Whether it be celebrities bumbling around in Mini Coopers, professional drivers in Jaguar XJR-15s or BMW M1 ProCars, these more or less mechanically even fields of racing almost always guarantee purity and door-banging action where the biggest variables are the drivers and their
talents. | | Photo by Jayson Fong / courtesy Petrolicious |
| | Jalopnik—Both the 2018 Porsche 718 Cayman GTS and its convertible sister the 2018 Porsche 718 Boxster GTS are built around angry little mid-mounted engines juiced to make more noise and power than they have a right to. If that sounds like a good recipe for great driving... Yes. Yes it is. |
Motor1—Build Biology is a show on TheHoonigans channel on Youtube that dissects special builds and get each and every detail of one-offs. In this episode, Bisi Ezerioha, owner of Bisimoto Engineering, shows Hoonigans his custom Porsche 986, also known as the Boxster. But it isn’t just any regular custom-built car; it’s a special one-off, armed with central seat, some NOS-esque system, and a whole lot of biturbo genius.

| | Automobile—The Ruf BTR2, which is based on a 993-generation Porsche 911, was one of the many hot air-cooled Germans on display at April’s Luftgekuhlt 5 show.
Each BTR2 started out as a basic 911 Carrera. The famed German tuner then increased the output of the 3.6-liter flat-six to 420 hp and 435
lb-ft of torque by adding a turbocharger, intercooler, modified camshafts, auxiliary oil cooler, and a new exhaust.

Motor1—After an earlier report from Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung stated Porsche would suspend all sales of new cars in Europe, the automaker said that it would temporarily limit the number of models it sells on the continent, according to Reuters. |
Jalopnik—Celebrating its 70th anniversary
this year, and probably something like a thousand Le Mans entries, Porsche is out to prove that Germans can occasionally be nostalgic about something. While practically every car on the grid for the last decade has been some combination of red, white, and black, Porsche has painted up two of its four GTE Pro class 911 RSR entries in vintage liveries reminiscent of cars Porsche have run at Le Mans before in the 70s and 80s. Forget running the race, Porsche wins.
Photo by Will Broadhead / courtesy Petrolicious | | Petrolicious—Like most young boys, I had a tub full of Matchbox cars, seemingly endless in variety. Porsches, Ferraris, BMWs, F1 stuff, Le Mans prototypes—everything was represented in my bin of miniatures. They would race each other around fictional circuits of my own creation, negotiating all of the obstacles a bedroom could throw at them. The grids were vast and varied, and—in my mind at least—the racing was fierce. Somewhat sadly though, this was
only alive in my imagination, for such a diverse grid couldn’t exist in 1:1 scale reality, could it? |

Autocar—It’s not often I get nervous driving at less than walking pace. But when I saw the boulder-strewn, ditch-riddled, steep and rocky ridge I was supposed to climb, I got really quite nervous.
