1. PCA Spotlight: The four stages of IMS bearing failure

PCA—Last year we took a trip out to Flat 6 Innovations research and development facility in Georgia to learn all about the intermediate shaft (IMS) and the IMS bearing in Porsche’s first water-cooled flat sixes. These two engine components have proven problematic in some Porsche 911s, Boxsters, and Caymans from model years 1997 through 2008. Our latest video explains the four stages of IMS bearing failure.

2. Porsche Macan real world review

PCA—In March of 2017, I decided to upgrade my ride to a premium Sport Utility Vehicle, and the most influential criterion in my decision was an emphasis on “Sport” more than “Utility.” I test-drove a Porsche Macan and all of its competitors from Europe and Japan. Some of their price points were more favorable, yet at decision time, price ultimately took a back seat to other qualities.

3. Porsche unveils Mission E Cross Turismo concept at Geneva Motor Show

PCA—The Mission E, Porsche’s electric-powered sedan concept unveiled in 2015 and subsequently approved for production, has been seen in various levels of development. They’ve all worn camouflage or a body similar to the concept’s — suicide doors included — so we’ve wondered when we’ll see something that’s more representative of what you’ll be able to buy come 2019. Porsche just dropped a big hint with the world premiere of the Mission E Cross Turismo today at the Geneva Motor Show.

4. Late-model Porsches rule in Amelia Island — for the first time, all of the top five sales date from the 1990s or later

PCA—It’s hard to call this a seismic shift — we’ve seen this coming for a while — but the Amelia Island auctions have likely cemented the proposition that low-production, late-model Porsches are blue-chip collectibles, not a fad, not a bubble in the making, but a here-to-stay reality in the collector car world. Whether it’s a sign of a generational shift taking place in collecting or simply the market realizing that the best performance cars of 1990s were truly something special — the last and the greatest cars of the analog era — the market for these cars is white-hot.

5. Video: Watch the Porsche Mission E Get Sideways on the Nürburgring

Road & Track—Now that the Nürburgring is open for 2018, it seems everyone is starting to take advantage, including manufacturers. Industry test pool sessions are underway, which means all sorts of wild camouflaged sports cars are coming out to play.
