| | PCA—It’s hard to believe that the new Porsche 911 GT3 RS, with just 520 horsepower, has beaten the 887-hp 918 Spyder hypercar around the Nürburgring-Nordschleife with a time of 6:56.4. The 918’s former production car lap record was set less than five years ago. |

Road & Track—The Porsche 917 was designed to rip down the Mulsanne Straight at Le Mans at 220 mph. A true sports prototype, it was not designed for regular road use. But, if you own a 917 in Monaco, you can make your car street-legal thanks to a truly absurd loophole.

| | MultiBriefs—In May 1983, young German driver Stefan Bellof piloted his Porsche 956 around the famous Nürburgring Nordschleife in 6 minutes, 11.13 seconds in qualifying for the Nürburgring 1,000-kilometer race as part of that year's World Sportscar Championship. The mark established a track record for the "Green Hell" that still stands today. |
Autoblog—Digital Trends interviewed Porsche GT-car boss Andreas Preuninger, and asked whether the lightweighting Weissach Package could find its way to non-RS cars. Preuninger might have loosed at least a few worms from the proverbial can when he told the site, "I won't rule out some lightweight package will find its way to other model lines in the future."
| | Jalopnik—Restomoded or “reimagined” Porsches with crazy performance are all the rage, as long as you’re willing to shell out ungodly amounts of money. Road & Track—In the past, cars were judged heavily by their 0-60 mph sprints, their quarter-mile times and their top speeds. Those figures are still important, but a Nürburgring lap time is the ultimate metric. Why? This German circuit is arguably the most difficult in the world. All video verified, here are ten of the fastest cars to ever lap the 'Ring. For now. | | |
| | The Drive—Everything can be bought for enough money. But for some items, that cost is simply so high, they're effectively priceless. If you had enough cash, you could probably take the Mona Lisa off the French government's hands—but they'd probably demand enough coin to buy the Force du frappe a half-dozen new ballistic missile submarines, and a sixth week
of vacation for everyone in the civil service for good measure. |
Lockton Motorsports—There have been many changes to auto insurance policies over the past ten years, and consequently it’s likely your personal auto policy excludes damage to your vehicle while participating in an HPDE event.
Even if you think you’re covered based on feedback from your agent or research you conducted years ago, you should review your policy and contact your agent to make sure. Unfortunately, this is a process you should go through each year, as insurers have the right to change their policy terms and conditions (including exclusions) at every policy
renewal.
