| | PCA—As a Gen-X Porsche fanatic I grew up enthralled by the sensual curves of the 911 Turbo, the 928’s muscular shoulders, and the not-so-subtle box flares of the 944. Approximately 10 years ago I found the 356 religion. |

Hagerty—We muscle car owners are of a different breed than most. We like to tinker and we’re mostly blue-collar folks who enjoy a good hamburger at some
greasy spoon where you’d be laughed out of the place for wearing slacks or a tie. Cynics probably think Porsche owners live on the other side of the spectrum, spending their days rubbing down their cars with Depends in a climate-controlled garage. | | PCA—Are you attending RRVI? PCA needs volunteers to help with the PCA car corral and hospitality. Each volunteer will receive a t-shirt, and the first 300 who volunteer for two shifts will also receive a RRVI poster. The work is easy, fun and a great way to meet your fellow PCA members. If you can help, please click
here to register.
If you have questions, contact your RRVI PCA Volunteer Coordinator Sharon Neidel at RRVIvolunteers@yahoo.com
Thanks for volunteering – see you at RRVI! |
Automobile—Last summer I was
talking with a friend who possesses one of the finest design minds I’ve ever encountered. Although he has never worked on cars, he said something that I realized summed up Porsche’s operational philosophy perfectly: “The best way to do a new project is to use as much existing and off-the-shelf stuff as possible.”
Photo by Robb Pritchard / courtesy Petrolicious | | Petrolicious—In an unassuming little Austrian village in the middle of the Alps, a former saw mill is a piece of earthly heaven for Porsche lovers. Not only is the Helmut Pfeifhofer Porsche Automuseum the only privately owned Porsche-sanctioned museum in the world, it’s actually in the same building that the very first Porsches were made in, the fabled production run of 52 early “Gmünd” 356s. I went to get the story of this special place, and it held
more than just a few pieces of aluminum inside. |
PCA—Join us for the Porscheplatz at the Continental Tire Monterey Grand Prix at the WeatherTech Raceway, Laguna Seca. September 8 and 9. The Porscheplatz tent will be the hub of activity for PCA members and Porsche owners at the races. There will be presentations by Porsche Motorsports North America and Porsche GT team drivers. Other activities include Porsche team garage/paddock tours. Mobil 1 and Michelin will also give presentations. Special
drawings will be held both days, including ones for "Hot Pit Experiences". "Hot Pit Experience" winners are given the exclusive opportunity to have a personal tour into the hot pits during the races. You can also just relax in the tent, enjoy a cool beverage, and watch the races via live feed TV.

| | Jay Leno's Garage—Ryan Friedlinghaus, CEO of West Coast Customs, stops by the garage to show Jay how they took a Porsche Cayman and transformed it into a classic 1959 Porsche 356. |
Oversteer by Autotrader—This Porsche Cayenne was the coolest car at Monterey Car Week. There was stiff competition, sure: I happened across two street-parked Bugatti Chirons, simply sitting in regular parallel parking spots one evening as I was walking around the small town of Carmel, near Monterey. That was cool. But this Cayenne is cooler.

| | Grassroots Motorsports—When Porsche 911 addict Alex Motola had to settle on a color for his ST-inspired 911 project, he took the easy way out. He simply left the decision to someone else.

| | Motor1—We’ve shared tons of drag races with you, our faithful audience, and literally every time before we’ve had at least a basic idea why certain cars are put against each other on the drag strip. This time, however, that’s not the case, but that doesn’t mean we’re not going to have a lot of fun. |
Road & Track—Here's a piece of Porsche history you probably didn't know about: Back in 1975, Viktor Polyakov, the Soviet Union's automotive industry minister, made a deal with the cash-starved German sports car maker to collaborate with Soviet car company Lada. Porsche helped develop an upgraded Lada sedan for 1978. | | Photo courtesy Wikimedia Commons/Vadim |
Motor Trend—We get it. The shape of the 911 is an icon on par with that of the Coke bottle and Betty Boop. But really? Is there no end to the amount people are prepared to pay to really make one of these shapes their own? There are over a million potential used factory 911s to choose from, and yet the choosy 911 fetishist is presented a choice of myriad manufacturers and tuners prepared to refresh, restomod, or utterly reimagine a 911. Now the factory
is even getting in on the action. Here are four options we spotted during Monterey Car Week, plus something different for the 1-percenter who wants Porsche mechanicals without the classic shape.
Motor1—After recently seeing a pair of nearly undisguised next-gen Porsche 911s in red and blue (see below), a new batch of pictures adds a white example to the group. Once again, this one has decals over the headlights and a few strategically placed pieces of tape, but otherwise, this is what the new coupe looks like. |
Stanceworks—For most, the term "Hot Rod" likely conjures images of classic American iron. Maybe a '30s coupe, a chopped top, and fat wide tires, or perhaps something more modern, such as a big block-sporting muscle car from the '70s. "Hot Rodding" has grown to encompass many things, but most importantly, it represents an ethos: an amalgam of self expression and a quest for all-out
speed. Luckily for us, the Porsche community has embraced the term too, and today, presents us with Makellos Classics' RS-inspired 1973 Porsche 911T.Read

| | Road & Track—"Project Gold" is the world's newest air-cooled Porsche. Assembled by Porsche Classic, the automaker's classic car parts and restoration division, the newly-built 993-generation 911 Turbo started from a never-used, new-old-stock body shell that had been in storage at Porsche for 20 years. Aside from the
paint color and the interior trimming, it's precisely the same as a brand-new 911 Turbo you could have purchased in 1998. |
Motor1—The 935 has been known as a formidable piece of Porsche motorsport history since 1976 when its first model was introduced. It’s a racing version of the 911 Turbo that’s prepared for the FIA Group 5 rules. Since 1984, this car has won over 150 worldwide, which includes 20 class wins. That number alone makes this Porsche a force to be reckoned
with. | | |
PCA—Every few years, Porsche Panorama conducts a survey of its readership to ensure that we produce the Porsche content you want to read about. Make the magazine yours by filling out the survey in its entirety. It should only take about five to ten minutes. Only current members and Test Drive participants logged in to the PCA website are allowed access to the survey.
| | PCA—To celebrate 70 years of Porsche, the world’s greatest sports car, Porsche Design has created a timepiece exclusively for Porsche Club of America (PCA) members: the Chronograph 70Y Sportwagen PCA Edition. Strictly limited to only 70 timepieces worldwide, this masterpiece pays tribute to the passion, commitment and camaraderie of PCA members, as well as the legendary Chronograph I,
the first-ever timepiece developed by Porsche Design. Watch purchasers have the option to receive their new timepiece during a ceremony at Rennsport Reunion VI. |
Autoblog—If you don't watch any other Nürburgring videos today, watch this one. J2 Racing's John Shoffner, an American, was taking part in the sixth race of the VLN endurance championship on the famed Nordschleife track when he lost control of his Porsche 911 GT3 Cup after the Flugplatz straight.
Road & Track—To send off its three-time Le Mans-winning LMP1 car, Porsche has built the 919 Hybrid Evo, a high-downforce machine designed to break lap records. And it's already broken its first. With factory driver Neel Jani at the wheel, the 919 Evo ran a 1:41.7 around Spa Francorchamps this morning, breaking Lewis Hamilton's pole-setting 1:42.553 lap record from last year.

Jalopnik—Porsche’s GT3 is a legendary nameplate, introduced in the mid-2000s, that signifies a screaming engine note, unfettered track performance, and a more driver-focused left seat experience. |
The Drive—A few years ago, Porsche sought to improve its dealership experience and create new incentives for car buyers to switch to its brand. The result was a handful of Experience Centers around the world that let anyone (minimum age dependent on location) with a valid driver's license and a stack of cash drive a Porsche model of their choice around a test track. Stuttgart's gamble has paid off with a quarter of a
million visitors to its PECs in the United States. Read More

Photo by Michael Klamm. Florida Crown Region. "This was taken during a Saturday
morning GT run from Neptune Beach, FL to Amelia Island, FL. Our group met early at a coffee shop in Neptune Beach, ran towards Mayport with an out-and-back on the Wonderwood Expressway, caught the ferry, and then traveled north to Fernandina Beach. After a nice stop for coffee, sandwiches, and lots of car talk, we made our way back to Jacksonville. On the way back we found a spot for this drone picture of our cars." (Ed.: Please note, this picture was not taken at an official PCA event.
Drones are not allowed at PCA events.) Got a stunning shot you want to share? Submit your pictures to potw@pca.org. Be sure to include your contact information, your region name, and a few sentences about your
