| | PCA—There's an old political adage: “As Maine goes, so goes the nation.” These days, you could almost say, “as the Porsche market goes, so goes the collector car market.” Out of the 166 Porsches that were sold in Monterey, a few stood out as particularly significant. These are some of the key takeaways. |

PCA—A popular PCA member benefit is The Mart, the club’s classifieds section online and in each issue of Porsche Panorama. Mart Fresh is a bi-weekly column in which PCA media
staff pick what they think are the "freshest" Porsches currently available, and then attempt to explain their reasoning. Up this week are a 1992 911 Carrera Cup, 1999 Boxster, and 2011 Cayman. | | PCA—Are you attending RRVI? PCA needs volunteers to help with the PCA car corral and hospitality. Each volunteer will receive a t-shirt, and the first 300 who volunteer for two shifts will also receive a RRVI poster. The work is easy, fun and a great way to meet your fellow PCA members. If you can help, please click
here to register.
If you have questions, contact your RRVI PCA Volunteer Coordinator Sharon Neidel at RRVIvolunteers@yahoo.com
Thanks for volunteering – see you at RRVI! |
Motor1—Check out this highly uncommon opportunity to see a driver actually pushing the road-going version of the 911 GT1 racecar. With only 21 of them in existence, most owners keep the supercars in climate-controlled garages and seldom take them on the road. This one engages in multiple drag races, including against a Carrera GT.
PCA Web Store—Are you a PCA member? Then be sure to pick up a limited edition PCA Rennsport Reunion polo or t-shirt at the PCA Web Store. Orders must be placed by Friday, September 14 at 3pm EST.

| | Petrolicious—The power of Porsche is rarely measured on a dyno, but you can always tell when it’s taken hold of someone. Eli Kogan is certainly no stranger to the marque from Stuttgart, and today we’re joining him for a spirited run through the gears in the type of empty space in the Arizona desert that almost audibly eggs on right feet. In between heel-and-toes and counter-steering
his Maritime Blue 964 RS (it’s not an RS America either, despite the US plates), he explains the reasoning behind his Porsche infatuation—from the first triple-digit speed run in the passenger seat of his dad’s 993, to the race-derived nature of the legendary RS line, but we’ll shut up now and let him and the flat-six do the talking. |
Ferro & Company—In 1948 a new
chapter began, a chapter that changed the driving experience of mankind. Today, we are still astonished by the superiority, elegance and craftsmanship of this historic machine. The legendary 356, has been in our hearts for decades, and will be cherished for decades to come.
Road & Track—It's hard to believe, but the current-generation Porsche 911, the 991, has been with us since 2011. That means it's high time for a new 911, code-named 992, and our spy photographer has caught Porsche testing this exact model at the Nürburgring. With very little camouflage, this is our best look yet at the next generation of one of the most important sports cars in the world. |
| | Jalopnik—Turns out all those European car magazines and our staff psychic were wrong: the new 992 Porsche 911 will not use a transverse, two-stroke diesel V4 front-wheel drive layout after all. Instead, it’s a 911, it looks like a 911, it sounds like a 911, and it goes nuts on the Nürburgring the way a proper 911 should. |
Santa Fe New Mexican—Charles Mendez, a friend, picked me up in his shiny black 1997 Porsche 911 (993) twin turbo on a beautiful morning in July. It was my first ride in a Porsche, and I felt a rush of excitement. |
Motor1—We all know the Porsche Cayenne Turbo is a fast sport-utility vehicle. The official word from Stuttgart says the people mover will top out at 177 mph (285 km/h), but numbers don’t really convey just how fast that is for something as big – and heavy – as a five-passenger SUV. Sure, it can technically do it, but what’s actually like inside the beast at such velocity? Thanks to the folks at AutoTopNL, we don’t have to
wonder. | | |
| | Jalopnik—The Porsche 961 was the endurance racing version of the Porsche 959 meant originally for rally. Only one was ever made and its racing career was brief, but thanks to Goodwood we can see and hear what it’s like again. |
InsideEVs—The Porsche Taycan, in both form and function, is a stand-in for high-end technology and performance. At least, that would seem to be the opinion of the marketing folks responsible for getting out the word about the new DJI Mavic 2 drone. They’ve just used the car in a promotional video for their fast-flying camera and it’s all pretty spectacular.
| | Road & Track—Best Motoring's YouTube channel has released tons of fantastic wheel-to-wheel race videos from the classic show's past, but they're mostly from circuits in Japan. That's not a bad thing, of course, but we like to see variety. That's why we love this Best Motoring video from the Nurburgring so much. |
Jalopnik—Few models are more coveted in the rarefied world of Porsche collecting than the track-destined RS models. Part of the allure is because arguably the most important of the batch, the 996, the first GT3 to have a designated RS model, didn’t come to America. Here’s how a group of collectors brought one over anyway.
| | Engineering Explained via YouTube—Porsche's Dynamic Boost is a function designed to minimize turbo lag and improve throttle response for Porsche turbocharged engines. The system works by maintaining the throttle valve fully open when the driver lifts their foot off of the accelerator pedal. As a result, there's an increased amount of airflow
through the engine, minimizing the amount of boost pressure that is lost.Watch Video |
Autoblog—An Automobile report looks into what's happening on the organizational and technical sides of the Volkswagen Group, and what those changes could mean for the premium brands. The wide-angle view is that Porsche appears to have been anointed to "coordinate the future activities" at Audi, Bentley, Bugatti and Lamborghini. Audi would cede Lamborghini guardianship to Stuttgart, and
Ducati — via a new concern called Ducati Enterprises — would become the shepherd for VW's other Italian investments. Executives target Jan. 1, 2019, to complete the reshuffle. |
Motor1—Sometimes, a superhero can be too powerful. In the Japanese comic "One-Punch Man,"
the hero Saitama can destroy just about every baddie in the universe with a single punch. He tries desperately to find someone, anyone who can put up a real fight and make things interesting, but in the end, Saitama throws one punch and subsequently falls headfirst into an ocean of self-imposed ennui.

| | PCA—Every few years, Porsche Panorama conducts a survey of its readership to ensure that we produce the Porsche content you want to read about. Make the magazine yours by filling out the survey in its entirety. It should only take about five to ten minutes. Only current members and Test Drive participants logged in to the PCA website are allowed access to the
survey. |
PCA—To celebrate 70 years of Porsche, the world’s greatest sports car, Porsche Design has created a timepiece exclusively for Porsche Club of America (PCA) members: the Chronograph 70Y Sportwagen PCA Edition. Strictly limited to only 70 timepieces worldwide, this masterpiece pays tribute to the passion, commitment and camaraderie of PCA members, as well as the legendary Chronograph I,
the first-ever timepiece developed by Porsche Design. Watch purchasers have the option to receive their new timepiece during a ceremony at Rennsport Reunion VI.
| | Automobile—Porsche’s Project Gold landed with a glittery boom during Monterey Car Week, giving us a taste of what a remanufacturing program from Porsche would look like. This is the first built-from-new “classic” car we’ve seen from the German automaker, somewhat following in the footsteps of new “vintage” cars from Aston Martin and Jaguar. During The Quail event during Car Week, we
sat down with Uwe Makrutzki, the manager for Factory Restoration for Porsche Classic, and one of the masterminds behind Project Gold. |
Petrolicious—Perhaps you read about our adventures on the “Kottenrun” earlier this summer, when we joined our likeminded friends for a laid-back GT-style day trip across Germany’s Eifel mountains in a pack of Porsche 911s.
24/7 Wall St.—Porsche does not sell many cars in the United States. However, the customers who buy its cars give them extraordinary ratings for quality, services and durability. |
| | Road & Track—We've seen some pretty wild engine swaps over the years, but this is definitely one of the craziest. It's a seemingly stock-looking 1981 Porsche 911 Targa that's had its flat-six replaced with an 8.2-liter V8 taken from a 1970 Cadillac Eldorado. Sleeper of the year? More like sleeper of the century. |

Motor1—The Porsche 918 may be gone, but it certainly isn't forgotten. The hybrid hypercar hit the scene in 2013, and though it stuck around for just two years, made a name for itself against rivals like the LaFerrari and the McLaren P1. At a cost of $845,000 when new, it was relatively affordable in a class of million-dollar MSRPs. But more used models are showing up online, and they ain't cheap.

specs, with a few extra additions to support its time on the track. Cousin to 'Yellow Bird' and 'Kermit.'
"The car has actually been bequeathed to my son from his grandfather, who did the mods on the car. Given he is only five years old, I am the fortunate keeper of this gem until my son is of age."
