| | PCA—Porsche’s mid-engined racer, the Cayman GT4 Clubsport, has been given a sequel. In addition to gaining “718” as a prefix, it now has 425 horsepower and uses natural fiber composites — made with hemp and flax — for certain body panels, though it still uses a 3.8-liter flat six similar to the last GT4 CS.

PCA—The ballots for the election of the PCA National Officers for the 2019-2020 term have been counted by the designated public accountants and the tallies have been reported to the Secretary, per the PCA
bylaws.
| | PCA—In late November Porsche introduced the all-new 2020 911 Carrera S and 4S coupes, so after six weeks to allow it to sink in, the automaker today unveiled their cabriolet counterparts.
Aside from removing the roof and replacing it with a soft top, the Carrera S Cabriolet and Carrera 4S Cabriolet are virtually identical to the coupes.

| | PCA—The Scottsdale auctions are fast approaching. Unlike Pebble Beach and Amelia Island, Scottsdale is about pure retail commerce—no vintage racing, no concours, no concept cars, just gavels banging non-stop at no less than seven auctions taking place throughout the Valley of the Sun. The catalogs have just arrived in the mail, and here are ten cars that we’ll be watching closely and
why we’re interested.

PCA—The Porsche market is unique in the collector car world. Although it’s experiencing a generational shift along with the market as a whole, nothing seems to be left behind by younger enthusiasts. The earliest bent window 356s from the early 1950s are trading in record territory while the 911R from 2016 costs about twice
its MSRP from two years ago. Our panelists will examine this phenomenon and discuss why Porsches from the 1950s-1960s appeal to millennials as much as to boomers. They’ll also look at cars to buy, sell and hold in every price range, from every era.

| | PCA—The original Cayenne (known internally as the E1) is more than 15 years old at this point. Long enough in some eyes to being making the transition from used car to interesting semi-collectible. Its good looks are undeniable — the intentional family resemblance to the 996 Carrera 4S is particularly endearing. Of the variants sold in North America, it’s the 2006 Turbo S that by far
the sexiest and most desirable.
|
PCA—A popular PCA member benefit is The Mart, the club’s classifieds section online and in each issue of Porsche Panorama. Mart Fresh is a bi-weekly column in which PCA media staff pick what they think are the "freshest" Porsches currently available, and then attempt to explain their reasoning. Up this week are a 1983 944,
2002 911 Carrera, and 2004 911 GT3.

| | PCA—In early December, PCA held its annual Tech Tactics West event at Porsche Cars North America's West Coast Training Facility, where industry technical experts give members exclusive, hands-on presentations of the latest technologies from Porsche and the aftermarket. Here you can find presentations from most of the speakers, excluding those from Porsche employees, whose material is
often too sensitive to publish online.

Auto Classics—For many Porsche fans, their love of the marque provides the means to break out of the mundane and feel alive, pushing the limits through competition or track days. However there’s always someone who feels the need to do things differently, and so when the urge was felt to take my Porsche to the limit, I decided
to do so in an environment about as far removed from a track day as it’s possible to get – Africa.

| | Road & Track—By the time they needed it the most, the Porsche team's racing chronograph had seen a lot of action. But the "Nuit Spaciale" was an important design for Omega. Powered by the high-beat caliber 1131, these split-second chronographs were developed in 1966, so that two years later, Omega could send 45 units to the Summer Olympics in Mexico. As Hodinkee notes,
Omega has been the Games' official timing partner since 1932, and while Mexico City got 45 individually marked black-dialed Olympic stopwatches for 1968, the Swiss also sold a few to high profile athletes, including John Partridge, a member of the British Cycling Federation. Interestingly, the 1977 Porsche team's cherished chronograph is an even rarer, white-dialed variant.

Display your own cherished car in model-specific Porsche Corrals or enter the Porsche Judged Field and compete to win in more than 20 prize categories.

| | Digital Trends—Porsche could leave the ranks of automakers who resist Android Auto, Digital Trends has learned exclusively. The German firm is open to offering Android Auto integration on at least some of its upcoming models, but it hasn’t provided a specific time frame.
|
Jalopnik—The future of performance hot rodding is bright, and EV powered. With a relatively compact electric motor and a rack of batteries, something with a classic shape, like a 356 Speedster, can receive a huge injection of power and torque. Driving an old car with maybe only 60 horsepower can be a lot of fun, but it can be
quite demanding in current-day traffic to keep up with the flow. The folks at EV West have been converting cars to EV power for quite a few years now, and this Speedster is a shining example of the quality builds they can manage.

| | Road & Track—The Porsche 911 Carrera T is designed to make you think of old 911s. Its name references the 911 T of 1968-1973, a basic model designed to lower the barrier of entry for Porsche's then-new rear-engine six-cylinder sports car. There are gray painted mirrors, a modern reinterpretation of the single chromed mirror you used to get on a 911, while cloth seats and fabric
door pulls also recall days gone by.
|
Motor1—The newest episode of Porsche’s Top 5 series on YouTube is all about the new, eight generation 911 sports car. More precisely, the exterior design of the iconic coupe and the top five features that make this car “so unique.”
| | |
| | Car and Driver—It's claimed that more than 1200 varieties of sausage are available in Germany. An impressive feat of charcuterie, the country's diverse selection of encased meats has been referred to as the gastronomic equivalent of flourishing regional dialects. Peter Peter, the aptly named food correspondent of the equally aptly named Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (Frankfurt General
Newspaper), has gone so far to refer to the diversity of wurst as "history on the plate." What, exactly, this has to do with the Porsche 911 Turbo S is nothing and everything. While Porsche works in a different medium, it clearly shares the nation's penchant for crafting numerous flavors from a single, simple blueprint.
|
Road & Track—The Porsche Carrera GT is no ordinary Porsche. Built with a mid-engine layout an a bespoke race-derived V10 engine, it's one of the finest supercars the company ever built. It played an important role in Porsche's history, which is probably why Best Motoring dedicated an entire episode of its show to
the car when it got behind the wheel for the first time.
| | |
Motor1—After months of testing already, Porsche continues to evaluation the 718 Boxster Spyder, and this time the roadster moves to a chillier climate for cold weather prep. We can't imagine that most owners would take the hardcore model in the snow like this test mule, but the German engineers are making sure the model can
take an icy beating if a buyer gets cabin fever and decides to take the Spyder our in a blizzard.

| | Autoblog—Interested in what surely qualifies as one of the weirdest Porsches out there? Well, we've got a treat for you. Let us introduce the Porsche 924 DP Cargo. If you've seen one before, count yourself in the minority, because there were only a few of these shooting brake conversions built by Porsche tuner DP Motorsport back in the day — three if you believe this listing, or nine
if you take the word of various other reports we found. This one happens to be for sale, listed for a cool £30,000, or $38,226.

Jalopnik—The 2020 Porsche 911 was introduced back in November with a new chassis feature called “Wet Mode,” which Porsche admits was added to help prevent aquaplaning on wet roads because, apparently, 911 drivers tend to drive fast. Who knew?

| | East Bay Times—Porsche automobiles are relatively a new kid on the block. In 1931, Ferdinand Porsche (1875-1951) founded his own consulting firm. He designed Hitler’s “peoples’ car” which we know as the VW Bug or Beetle. But Hitler was more interested in war material before the car was produced, so Porsche was ordered to design military
equipment for the war. After the war, Porsche was held as a war criminal for almost two years before being acquitted by the French courts.

The Drive—Yesterday at Daytona, Porsche finally showed off the new 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport race car. The road-going 718 Cayman GT4 isn't here yet, but the Clubsport gives us a very good idea of what the eventual street car will look like. We also spoke to Porsche's head of GT Customer Motorsports, Matthias Scholz, to get
more info.

| | Fortune—The year 2018 was very good for the car industry. According to Cox Automotive, U.S. auto sales are expected to total 17.2 million units in this year, which is more than last year and the fourth year in a row to beat 17 million, finishing above the firm’s earlier forecasts.
|
Road & Track—One of the most surprising things about Porsche's new 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport is the material it uses for its doors and wing. At a quick glance it looks like carbon fiber, but it's not. Instead, Porsche is making these parts from what it's calling "natural fiber."

| | Jalopnik—A fear that I have, which I suspect many of you to have, is of a jack collapsing when I am using it. And I think it’s a pretty realistic fear. But here to inject some peace of mind, at least for the actual strength of different kinds of jacks, is the good and reliably entertaining Hydraulic Press Channel.
|
Race Tech—Porsche says that its new 911 GT3 R made a successful debut at the Roar before the 24, the three official test days ahead of Florida’s 24-hour sportscar event.
| | |
| | Road & Track—It's one of the trickiest aspects of sports car engineering: The things you do to improve grip on dry pavement often reduce a car's traction in wet weather. A lightweight chassis and wide tires with minimal tread can all increase a car's tendency to hydroplane. That's a huge problem for buyers, who might not expect their fast, grippy, surefooted performance vehicles to
be so compromised by damp pavement.

PCA—To celebrate 70 years of Porsche, the world’s greatest sports car, Porsche Design has created a timepiece exclusively for Porsche Club of America (PCA) members: the Chronograph 70Y Sportwagen PCA Edition. Strictly limited to only 70 timepieces worldwide, this masterpiece pays tribute to the passion, commitment and camaraderie of PCA members, as well as the legendary Chronograph I,
the first-ever timepiece developed by Porsche Design.
