PCA—The history of the 924 is pretty straightforward. It was begun as Project EA425, a stillborn VW/Audi project engineered under contract by Porsche. When it became clear that VW would scrap the project in favor of a Golf-based GT called the Scirocco, Porsche bought back the car and decided to introduce it as a replacement for the 914 and the 912E. The purists howled at the notion of a front-engine, rear transaxle car
with a buzzy Audi four-cylinder, bearing a Porsche badge, but nuts to them, it was an inherently good platform with gobs of development potential.
2019-2020 PCA National election — cast your vote by Dec. 1 |
| | PCA—Our club is fueled by volunteers, and every two years PCA National holds an election to inaugurate volunteer members of the Executive Council. The voting process is important, and we encourage eligible voters to participate in the election of candidates. Members will receive ballots (like the one below) this month with the October issue of Porsche Panorama. Be
sure to cast your vote by December 1. |
Jalopnik—For years, I have been meh about the LS swap. General Motors’ ubiquitous V8 engine fits almost anywhere! It makes a lot of power! I know, I know. But it’s so common. It is the “live, laugh, love” of engine swaps, my dudes. It is as basic as pumpkin spice. I got bored of hearing about them.
| | Motor Trend—Do you ever wonder where this is all going to end? More power, bigger wings, better aero, fatter tires. Remember when the '90s Porsche 911 Turbo and Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 hit 400 horsepower? We thought we were all going to die. Yet now we're close to doubling that. What hath the demon seed of technology wrought? |
Road & Track—When it comes to Porsche-obsessives, Bruce Canepa is up there. Over the years, he's amassed one of the greatest Porsche collections known to man, full of unique, rare models and historically significant race cars. He's also created a full restoration and upgrade program for the iconic 959, and races his cars in vintage events.
| | Car and Driver—Porsche has nearly finished introducing the last of its myriad variants of the current-generation 911, known as the 991.2. Since that process takes the better part of seven years, that means it's just about time for a new generation. To get a preview of the next version, we rode along on a development drive to learn about the new 911. |
Car and Driver—The lead-up to the new 992 generation of the Porsche 911 has been long, but the wait is about to pay off. At our recent firsthand experience with a prototype of the new sports car, we learned that the production model will officially make its debut next month. Porsche also shared the launch cadence for the 911 lineup. In the United States, it will begin in summer 2019, when the first models arrive in dealerships as 2020
models. |
Jalopnik—This will come as a welcome surprise to that one weird guy in your town with a yard full of transaxles, but a Porsche 968 won a racing event. It won this year.
| | Auto Classics—There’s no questioning the importance of a pre-production Porsche. As a symbol of ingenuity and raw design, any prototype vehicle from deepest Stuttgart boasts more cultural authority than even the healthiest of mainstream 911s. But you can go one further, and it’s for sale with RM Sothebys on October 27. |
Road & Track—In the world of Porsche, it's hard to find a car that truly stands out. Every 911 owner seems to do the same modifications and upgrades, giving us a sea of similarity at club events and meetups. This 930 is different. It was built for SEMA last year, and has a stunning array
of custom touches. It's for sale. You should buy it.

Carfection via YouTube—Henry Catchpole gives the
Porsche 911 GT2 RS a proper road review and finds out how this track monster deals with the open road. How does a car with that top speed and that acceleration handle public roads?
| | Jalopnik—The stratospherically popular Porsche 930—externally known as the Porsche 911 Turbo, or the widowmaker of Eighties Wall Street—is already one of the car's most desirable vintages. Now legendary tuning company Lanzante Limited has decided to one-up near perfection by building a limited run of restomod 930s with period Porsche-built Formula 1 engines that are good for up to
1,000 horsepower. Achtung. |
Oversteer by Autotrader—I'm so thankful there's still a 911 that many enthusiasts hate. Often knocked for its looks, unreliability and pragmatic engineering, the 996 chassis 911 -- produced from 1998 to 2005 -- is the lone 911 that most can still afford. Even though my first round with the 996 didn't have a happy ending, it was still good enough to earn a sequel -- and I'm hoping this
2002 911 Turbo I just purchased will be my own version of "The Empire Strikes Back."
| | Jalopnik—At Rennsport Reunion, an event full of every conceivable mind-blowing Porsche that you can think of, one car upstaged them all. It wasn’t an ex-Le Mans car, a shop build funded by an unlimited pocketbook, or even a Paris-Dakar racer. It was this rowdy, dirty, lifted 1974 911 Targa with the fenders sawzalled off that competes in off-road racing. It wasn’t even racing at
Rennsport and it won the weekend.

The Drive—The Porsche Experience Center in Atlanta, Georgia hosted its first-ever wedding ceremony for a couple of Porsche aficionados last week. However, this neat story isn't so much about where the wedding happened, but how, because believe it or not, the bride and
groom said their vows in the back of a Porsche Cayenne while traveling at 70 miles per hour around the 1.6-mile driver development circuit.Read

At first glance, not much, but Régis Mathieu’s life revolves around both of them and his absolutely stunning exhibition celebrating the combination of light and automotive art is utterly unique. Before the exhibit’s close on the 17th of October, I went to the Cité de l’Automobile in the French city of Mulhouse to meet the man behind the
display. |

Jalopnik—We’re well into the new era of electric cars. Hot on the heels of Tesla, nearly every major automaker has implemented or will implement an electrified vehicle of their own. And Porsche’s offering, the upcoming Taycan, will be the one to beat.
| | Motor1—Hybrids will help bridge the gap between our love of internal combustion engines and our inevitable electrified future. To ease customers into the future, Porsche offers the Cayenne E-Hybrid, a 462-horsepower SUV that blends performance, efficiency, and luxury in one large, expensive package. While the Cayenne E-Hybrid packs a hybrid powertrain, it suffers from none of the
negative connotations associated with the word. No, it’s not supercar fast; however, it’s not a slouch for what it is. |
PCA—PCA Hill Country Region (HCR) worked with Circuit of the Americas to provide ticket offers for PCA members planning to attend the Formula 1 U.S. Grand Prix, October 19 – 21, 2018 at Circuit of the Americas (COTA), Austin, Texas. There still may be some seats available. The original locations were in the T12 and T15 grandstands. Turn 12 prices ranged from $325.00 - $395.00 per ticket. Turn 15 prices ranged from $445.00 –
$645.00 per ticket. Most of these seats may be sold out. Other ticket options may still be available. COTA is also offering PCA members discounted parking in Lot T or Lot F for $100.00. |
Roadshow by
CNET—With more than 6,100 reservations for the Taycan in the United States alone, Porsche's first foray into the battery electric vehicle segment seems like it's off to a respectable start considering initial plans calling for the production of 20,000 to 25,000 units per year. Not bad for a 600-plus-horsepower EV that won't being reaching consumer driveways for roughly another year with a new flexible production line still needing to be completed and all. However, that hasn't
stopped a Porsche official from confirming another BEV in the pipeline. |
