| | PCA—The Baja Mexican 1,000 off-road race is tough. Arguably, it’s the toughest desert race in the world. There are huge boulders, big jumps, water crossings, and endless silt beds. About half the cars that enter the annual National Off-Road Racing Association (NORRA) rally from Ensenada to San Jose del Cabo don't finish.

| | PCA—Porsche Motorsports North America (PMNA) in

and amateur racing series around the world.

| | PCA—Porsche Parade 2018 offered fun and adventures for both young and old. Our extensive coverage, "Everyone Loves a Parade," by David Mathews, includes some unique personalities and the results of all the events. Which is faster on a track? The GT3 Cup, a pure racer, or the snarling production GT2 RS. Well we just had to know, so we went to Road America to cover a shootout organized
by a member for "Street vs. Race," by Kris Clewell, which we also caught on video. One of the most rare, lightweight, and most desirable Porsches is the 1967 911R. It is also crushingly expensive. But a little shop in England called EB Motorsports has built an “homage,” and it’s pretty special. Robert Plotkin tells the story in "Artful Dodger." Racing is often
thought to be out of reach of most budgets. Not so at the 24 Hours of LeMons, wherein the car entered can’t be worth more than $500. Stef Schrader brought a team and her 944 to a LeMons race, "All in Good Fun." See how she fared.

| | PCA—A popular PCA member benefit is The Mart, the club’s classifieds section online and in each issue of Porsche Panorama. Mart Fresh is a bi-weekly column in which PCA media staff pick what they think are the "freshest" Porsches currently available, and then attempt to explain their reasoning. Up this week are a 2002 Boxster S, 1979 911 SC Targa, and 2014
Cayman. |
PCA—Porsche has been pushing its electric vehicle program as the company's first production EV edges closer to production for 2020, and even though we haven't seen the final version of the sedan, Porsche confirmed that the wagon-like Mission E Cross Turismo concept study will enter series production as a Taycan variant.
2019-2020 PCA National election — cast your vote by Dec. 1 |
| | PCA—Our club is fueled by volunteers, and every two years PCA National holds an election to inaugurate volunteer members of the Executive Council. The voting process is important, and we encourage eligible voters to participate in the election of candidates. Members will receive ballots (like the one below) this month with the October issue of Porsche Panorama. Be
sure to cast your vote by December 1. |
Everyday Driver via YouTube—During
the 987 generation of the Boxster, Porsche made a limited edition Spyder variant. When owner Jay came though Park City in his Spyder, he reached out to Paul and Todd to see if they wanted some seat time. We couldn't resist.
| | Car and Driver—Think Porsche builds only pricey special variants of its core 911 Carrera lineup? Sure, the GTS and the Turbo, as well as track specials such as the GT3, cost an arm and a leg. When base 911s are just under $100K to start, the hotter stuff is naturally going to cost more. But the 2018 Carrera T is the rare 911 special that stands apart from everyday Carrera and Carrera S
models and yet doesn't cost a fortune. |
Road & Track—The Porsche 911 Turbo S is good at a lot of things. One of those things is going quickly in a straight line. This modified blue 991-generation coupe is a great example.
| | Jalopnik—We are very much used to 0-60 mph (100 km/h) as a metric for gauging how quick a car is, just like we have top speed for its sense of outright power bragging rights. But I just bumped into a different metric: 20-40 mph in fourth gear, a test of a car’s sort of general performance is everyday driving. |
Petrolicious—As fall weather finally descended on Long Island after a muggy summer, the air-cooled Porsches had good reason to enjoy the cooler temperatures. This past Sunday was the second annual Driven to America celebration, and the collection of air-cooled cars paying tribute to the man instrumental in their arrival in the States didn’t disappoint. | | Photo by Jake Slayers / courtesy Petrolicious |
| | Porsche Newsroom—For 13 consecutive seasons, Walter Payton was the star attraction for the Chicago Bears. Taking multiple rushing yard records in a glittering career that culminated in Super Bowl victory in 1986, Payton is remembered as one of the greatest running backs in the NFL’s 100-year history. But Payton was also a car guy. And his pride and joy for most of his adult life was a
911 Turbo. |
Road & Track—When buying performance tires these days, there’s a caveat to keep in mind: They might be too good for you.
“I sometimes shake my head at people who have supersticky tires. They’re not learning much about driving,” says Ross Bentley, author of the Speed Secrets
series of driver-training books.

| | TaycanForum—Here at TaycanForum, we've put a magnifying glass to all of the latest Porsche Taycan spy photos and videos to dissect its styling cues and give you this preview rendering of what the production version of Porsche's upcoming full-electric EV sports
car should look like when it is fully revealed next year! Hat tip to Jalopnik. |
Petrolicious—The steep price climb in air-cooled Porsches that’s taken place over the last decade has led to a world where even the most rusted shells are worth saving, and that means the population of the species has been climbing. That means there are more chances to own one, and more
chances to modify them. | | Photo by Roman Rätzke / courtesy Petrolicious |
| | Car and Driver—Tempted by billions of dollars and a chance to topple Ferrari, Porsche is considering a potential split from the Volkswagen Group into a separate, publicly traded company. |
Motor Trend—Porsche's first fully electric vehicle, the Taycan, is set to go on sale sometime next year, and we already know most of the specs. It will be an all-wheel-drive sports sedan with more than 600 hp and a 0-60 time under 3.5 seconds. But while we knew it would more or less be aimed at the Tesla Model S, Porsche hasn't said much about pricing until now.
| | Jalopnik—The McLaren F1 is a car you love. The Toyota Supra is a car you love. The Porsche 911 GT2 is a car you love. The Nissan Skyline GT-R is a car you love. The Toyota MR2 is a car you love(?). The Acura NSX (in this case, technically Honda NSX) is a car you love. Here’s all of them racing against each other. Really. |
Automobile—VW and Audi turned diesel into a dirty word by inventing and applying so-called defeat devices across the range. In the process, they thoroughly tainted their brand image and alienated loyal customers stuck with cars whose ratings had dropped from desirable to dead stock within a few months. But unlike Porsche, which absorbed tens of thousands of windfall oil burning engines for almost ten years before pulling
the plug in late September, Wolfsburg and Ingolstadt still need the diesel-drinkers to meet their CO2 targets. |

Motor1—The new Porsche 911 is coming soon. The 992-series of the forever-young supercar will debut in a little over a month at the Los Angeles Auto Show. With the new model will eventually come some unprecedented changes, not the least of which include hybrid power. One thing that won’t change – or rather, disappear – is the much-loved 911 Carrera T.
Automobile—At this year’s Geneva motor show, Porsche showed off a new twist on the electric Mission E concept we first saw back in 2015. Called the Mission E Cross Turismo, Porsche’s latest concept looked a lot like a lifted version of the Panamera Sport Turismo.Read More |

Photo by Gerry Dunn. Chicago Region. "This is my 1974 Porsche 911
Carrera. Only 282 coupes like this were made in ’74, and only 262 Targas. It was modeled after the ’73 RS 2.7 with Carrera graphics, painted wheels, and ducktail spoiler. For ’75, the ducktail was gone, replaced with the whaletail. I found this car six years ago and have been bringing it back to original condition." Got a stunning shot you want to share? Submit your pictures to potw@pca.org. Be sure to include your contact information, your region name, and a few sentences about your picture.
