PCA—A popular PCA member benefit is The Mart, the club’s classifieds section online
| | and in each issue of Porsche Panorama. Mart Fresh is a bi-weekly column in which PCA media staff and guest contributors pick what they think are the "freshest" Porsches currently available, and then attempt to explain their reasoning. Up this week are a 1973 914 2.0, 2013 Cayenne Diesel, 2009 Boxster, and 1982 911 SC.

| | Motor Trend—Money no object, which would you choose: the Porsche 911 GT2 RS, or the 911 GT3 Touring? Turbo and PDK versus naturally aspirated and six-speed stick shift; two different solutions to the same
challenge, each quintessentially 911. In truth, there's no wrong answer here. But, like medieval scholars arguing over angels dancing on the head of a pin, it's something on which few enthusiasts would choose not have an opinion. Here's mine ...

| | PCA—Porsche drivers appreciate technical excellence, precision, and developing the skills to operate complex machines proficiently, which may explain why our favorite cars are popular among pilots. Read about six of them and their love for Stuttgart’s machines in our feature story, “Pilots and Porsches.” The 4 and 4S iterations of the 992-series 911 are out, and Editor Rob Sass drove
them in Valencia, Spain. The title of his article, "Superhero," might indicate how he feels about the car. Gerrit Wistrup paid $500 for a 944, intending to use it as a parts car. Years of labor and love have turned "The $500 Porsche" into a daily driver. About 20,000 miles into his ownership of a used 997, Carl Spencer discovered a major problem. See how he handled it in "Bore Score and Seven Years Ago." Connecticut Valley Region member Todd Pajonas started with track days, and now is a fully
committed racer at PCA events, constantly improving and upgrading his cars. Read about what led him down the "Slippery Slope."

| | Autocar via YouTube—I know the Porsche 914 is, to many of the worst kind of Porsche snobs, not a real Porsche. It was even branded in Europe as a “VW-Porsche,” and, more galling, it had a Volkswagen engine. But, there was another version, the 914/6, that had the flat-six out of the 911. This is the version everyone seems to agree is the respectable 914, but when you actually look at
the numbers, I’m not so sure.

Road & Track—Porsche's IndyCar attempt was probably too ambitious. In the late 1980s, when the German marque entered, most teams bought their chassis from March or Lola and engines from Cosworth—proven hardware from experienced manufacturers. Porsche decided to do everything in-house, which turned out to be a poor
choice.

| | The Drive—If there's one annoying automotive enthusiast tic that needs to stop, it's all the fussing and hum-hawing over auction results. Every time there's a nearly perfect low-mileage example of an everyman's car that nabs an absurd amount at auction, the internet comes to a halt in outrage.

Drivetribe via YouTube—The V4 engine is such a rare layout in a road car, being found predominantly instead in motorcycles.

| | Carfection via YouTube—Henry Catchpole takes the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid Sport Turismo to Wales for a full road review.

PcarMarket invites you to be part of the excitement. Registration is open and consignments are being accepted.

Petrolicious—Zef Eisenberg already holds speed records on two wheels, including the fastest motorbike on sand, and has survived Britain’s fastest-ever (230mph) motorcycle crash. Now he wants to become the first person to achieve a British land speed record on bike and car within a year, aiming to exceed 200mph on sand in a
modified 1200hp road-legal Porsche 911 Turbo S. The plan is to attempt the record on the weekend of 6-7 April 2019 at Pendine Sands in South Wales, home to famous historic speed record attempts, including Sir Malcolm Campbell’s 174mph driving Bluebird in 1927.

| | Motor1—Top Gear challenges don't have to be high-minded international affairs to be fun. This particular challenge has everything we've come to expect: risk, reward, danger, competition, entertainment, and just a sliver of educational value.

Oversteer by Autotrader—I recently discovered something surprising: Porsche once made a Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet. More importantly, Porsche actually made a Murano CrossCabriolet before there even was a Murano CrossCabriolet -- and I think Porsche made it uglier.

| | Carscoops—Located in the town of Nürburg, in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, the Nurburgring is considered by enthusiasts as being the world’s greatest race track. It is also considered by auto manufactures as the ultimate test ground for new cars. (Ed.: Click here to visit the official Nürburgring

Road & Track—Porsche kept the underpinnings of the original 911 largely the same for 30 years, so owners often take advantage by swapping parts like suspension, engines, and even body panels around to make their ideal 911.

| | Motor1—While Porsche will no longer be racing at Le Mans, they leave behind an amazing record of 19 overall wins. Porsche has always been keen to preserve their heritage, and now, they will be commemorating those 19 victories in a very clever way.

SEMA Action Network—At the request of the SEMA Action Network (SAN), a resolution (H. Res. 108) was introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives to recognize July 12, 2019, as Collector Car Appreciation Day (CCAD). H. Res. 108 is sponsored by Congressional Automotive Performance and Motorsports Caucus House Co-Chairs
Rep. Bill Posey (R-FL) and Rep. Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (D-GA). The date marks the 10th commemoration in what has become an annual event to celebrate and raise awareness of the vital role automotive restoration and collection plays in American society.

| | The Drive—It's always striking to me how much fewer electric vehicles I see when I leave major cities. The problem always seems to come down to an infrastructure one: EVs are more common in places where there are ample charging spots, and not so much elsewhere. Yet even when I've had a plug-in test car in Austin, the infrastructure to charge it seems barely adequate even in a major
city.

Photo by Stephen Restelli. Green Mountain Region. "Porsche was celebrating its 70th year, and 70 has a special meaning to me as I bought my 1961 356 Karmann Sports Coupe (aka, notchback) in 1970.
"In 1961, Porsche sent 1,048 cabriolet bodies to Karmann where a special hardtop was welded onto them. Only about 100 are thought to have survived to this day. I purchased it in Costa Mesa, California from Don Burns Volkswagen in 1970, when I was 19, and drove it past 131,000 miles in 1973 shortly before I sold the car.
"For a full 40 years, I regretted selling this car, and then in 2013 it appeared on eBay. I bought the car back, and in all that time it had only traveled about 10,000 miles — confirmed by the seller's log book, which also contained all my original receipts.
"This photograph was taken in Marshfield, Vermont in the fall a few years ago. I think the car is smiling, happy to have come back home to me."
