PCA—Pano starts the year strong with a drive around the legendary Nürburgring. The Green Hell, Sir Jackie Stewart called it. One of the most challenging racetracks in the world. Editor Sass takes a few hot laps in a Cayman, and continues on to drive around Spa, in "Adrenaline Rush.". Five years in, the "Unsung Hero" Macan is
a smashing success for Porsche and is being refreshed for 2019 . Read all about Kremer Racing’s wild 997 Turbo-based monster, the K3R, in "The Flatnose from Cologne." We also trace the history of a 904 GTS first advertised in this magazine 50 years ago "It's a Keeper," and the one-year-only 912E Don Werner has owned almost since new "Mars Rover." A winner is named in our Battle of the Builds competition (p. 96), we look toward Parade 2019, and lots more in this jam-packed
issue.

| | PCA—The Porsche market is unique in the collector car world. Although it’s experiencing a generational shift along with the market as a whole, nothing seems to be left behind by younger enthusiasts. The earliest bent window 356s from the early 1950s are trading in record territory while the 911R from 2016 costs about twice its MSRP from two years ago. Our panelists will examine
this phenomenon and discuss why Porsches from the 1950s-1960s appeal to millennials as much as to boomers. They’ll also look at cars to buy, sell and hold in every price range, from every era.
|
Motorweek—The second generation Porsche Panamera and Panamera Sport Turismo gain the GTS treatment. Using the 4.0L twin-turbo V8, the GTS looks to find the sweet spot between daily driver and track car.
| | |
| | Petrolicious—What do you buy if you’re the co-founder of WhatsApp? Porsches! The co-founder in question is Jan Koum, and he has an incredible collection of Porsches, so incredible that he’s able to cull ten cars from the collection simply because he hasn’t had time to use them.
|
Everyday Driver via YouTube—he Alfa 4c, Porsche Cayman, and Lotus Elise share the rare mixture of exotic mid-engine looks and dynamics with near-affordable prices. These are cars you'd normally see compared on great roads in the Alps, so we took all three to American equivalents just north of Los Angeles.

| | Motor1—Oh, good – another marriage between an SUV and a coupe is about to take place. After introducing the Audi Q8 and the Lamborghini Urus, the Volkswagen Group is getting ready to beat another SUV with the coupe stick by unveiling the Cayenne “Coupe” or whatever it will be called. All three models are related to one another and the one carrying the Porsche crest was seen the other
day undergoing testing in rainy Stuttgart.

Jalopnik—On Jan. 1, 2019, a new rule went into effect changing the way California cops can bust you for exhaust noise violations and the car community seems to be freaking out about it. The legislation in question is California Assembly Bill 1824, here’s a rundown of what it really means.

Motor1—Gemballa is a venerable name in Porsche tuning, and it's latest upgrade pack gives the 911 Turbo a major power upgrade. The Gemballa GTR 8XX Evo-R also gives the machine a meaner look to match the extra power.

| | The Smoking Tire via YouTube—Shortly after coming back from its Keen Project Safari Transformation, Matt's Porsche 911 decided to start blowing smoke from the tail pipe, indicating it was nearing time for the dreaded, 100,000-mile Top End Rebuild inherent to all air-cooled 911's. Marco Gerace, owner of TLG Auto in North Hollywood, CA, an air-cooled specialist, tore down the engine and
discussed what our course of action would be.
Now, in Part 2, Marco has cleaned and reassembled the long block using a combination of still good (Pistons, Rods) and new (valves, head studs, cam gears) parts, and used money saved to rebuild the bottom end as well, for even greater durability.

Jalopnik—The 2020 Porsche 911 may not be a huge revolution over the car it replaces (they still put the engine in the back of these, one hears) but under the skin it’s a totally new car. That’s true inside it, too. Let’s climb behind the wheel of the new Porsche 911—virtually, of course.

A Toyota Yaris crashed through the dealership's front window and its alleged driver, 20-year-old Rakhmatullo Sotvoldiyev, vandalized several other cars inside, reports Vice. Police say it was because of a bad breakup, but man, the
good cars don't deserve this!

| | Motor1—Porsche introduced the 2020 911 Cabriolet in Carrera S and Carrera 4S on Tuesday, and in the brand’s usual fashion, the introduction of an online configurator immediately followed the debut of the new car.
