PCA—Gunther Werks has already stormed the air-cooled Porsche world with its 400R, a carbon-fiber-bodied 993-generation 911 with a 430+horsepower flat six. Up until now, the cars we’ve seen have been painted
or wrapped, but Gunther Werks has unveiled one of their 400Rs in naked carbon fiber — which will be featured at PCA’s Werks Reunion Amelia Island on March 8.
| | PCA—In August Porsche unveiled a rally car concept based on the 981 Cayman GT4 Clubsport, and it looked like the automaker was serious about building an off-road-worthy Cayman. Now Porsche has announced that
it will contest the 2020 World Rally Championship (WRC) with a 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport (982 generation) in the FIA R-GT class.

| | PCA—The Porsche market is unique in the collector car world. Although it’s experiencing a generational shift along with the market as a whole, nothing seems to be left behind by younger enthusiasts. Join us as we examine the latest trends in our market seminar.

PCA—A popular PCA member benefit is The Mart, the club’s classifieds section online and in each issue of Porsche Panorama. Mart Fresh is a bi-weekly column in which PCA media staff pick what they think are the "freshest" Porsches currently available, and then attempt to explain their reasoning. Up this week are a 1974 914
2.0, 2011 Boxster Spyder, and 1990 911 Carrera 2 Cabriolet.

Car and Driver—The route from Los Angeles to our desert testing grounds climbs over the San Gabriel Mountains through 40 miles of corners and clouds that test handling, braking, and power. Pick the right time and traffic is rarer than the smell of fresh-cut grass in L.A., and by the time the road spits you out onto the
freeway, your understanding of a vehicle is fully formed. Of our dozens of commutes over these mountains this year, there are a few memorable standouts: the traffic-free run in a Mustang GT, the 911 GT3's 9000-rpm shriek bouncing off the rock walls, a paradigm-busting drive in an Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio, and this most recent assault in the redesigned Porsche Cayenne.
| | |
| | Autoblog—Every new 911 presents a potential existential threat to Porsche purists, and the eighth-generation Porsche 911 is no exception. Has the 2020 model lost the quirks that define its inherent 911-ness? Is the legendary sports car evolving into anonymity? Those questions loom large, and despite its familiar shape I'm intensely curious about the answers I'll
discover.
|
Motor1—There’s no denying Porsche is one of the companies that are the most experienced when it comes to hybrid powertrains. Just think of the Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid and 918 Spyder and you’ll get the idea. If you still have any doubts, just watch the video above.
| | |
| | Jalopnik—A Porsche 911 GT1. Mercedes CLK GTR attempting to do donuts. A drag race between a Ferrari 250 GT SWB and a Lamborghini Miura S. You’re about to overload on a ton of very, very good cars. Yes, there’s also a Porsche 918 Spider drag racing a Porsche 959.
|
Car and Driver—There's a simple reason Porsche's incumbent Macan is once again our choice as the Best Compact Luxury SUV: It presents the best set of compromises, and we think that's a good thing. The foundation of this position is that we will always see SUVs as utility vehicles and not pure driving partners. So the Macan's
provocative fusion of capability, control feel, and sensible comfort wins our hearts—even in the presence of Alfa Romeo's gonzo 505-hp Stelvio Quadrifoglio.
| | |
| | Motor1—There’s a new generation Porsche 911 out and is hard not to agree it’s awesome. It aims to be better in just about every possible way than its predecessor but that doesn’t mean the 991 series was bad – not at all. In fact, the outgoing 911 is still available in some modifications and one of these is the niche Targa GTS which – while rare and expensive - makes a heck of a case
for itself.
|
Motorweek via YouTube—The Porsche Macan SUV channels its inner 911 when it comes to driving dynamics. We took a Quick Spin on the twisty island roads of Mallorca.
| | |
| | Road & Track—If you watched the 1999 Le Mans 24 Hours, you undoubtedly remember Peter Dumbreck's spectacular crash on the way to Indianapolis corner, where his Mercedes CLR took flight, seemingly for no discernible reason, flipping through the air multiple times before landing in the woods. It happened to his teammate, Mark Webber, at the same spot during qualifying and just before
Mulsanne Corner in practice, too.

Porsche via YouTube—The ultimate soundtrack for every Porsche fan. In this episode of our “Porsche Top 5 Series”, you see and hear the loudest models ever built by Porsche. Petrolheads Jean Pierre Kraemer and Benjamin Marjanac took a sound-level meter to the secret warehouse of the Porsche Museum in Zuffenhausen to discover
the all-time hits in the Porsche playlist.

Motor Trend—The 2019 Detroit auto show marks the return of an icon, the 2020 Toyota Supra. Toyota's rear-drive coupe was created in partnership with BMW, which made possible a key ingredient of the Supra formula—an inline-six. Now strictly a two-seater, the more compact, fifth-generation A90 Supra moves closer to the sports
car end of the spectrum. As such, one of its key competitors will be the Porsche 718 Cayman, a two-seat, mid-engine, rear-drive coupe with a starting price not much more than that of the Toyota's. Supra chief engineer Tetsuya Tada told us last year that Toyota benchmarked Porsche models during the new Toyota's development.
|
| | Road & Track—There are several different iterations of the Porsche 917, but none were as brutally powerful as the 917/30 Spyder. Built to compete in the Can-Am championship, it used a twin-turbo version of Porsche's flat-12 engine that could produce a massive 1600 horsepower on nearly 40 psi of boost in qualifying trim.
|
The Drive—Driver assistance features are becoming more robust and commonplace with every new vehicle launch. Porsche's newest offering to the market will debut in the eighth-generation of its flagship car, the 911. By coupling a new "wet mode" with
sensors in the vehicle's wheel well, the 992 can detect water saturated road or track conditions, and help adjust the driving characteristics of the car to prevent the loss of grip.

| | Petrolicious—Porsche seems to have hijacked this year’s GP Ice Race event at Zell am See, Austria. First it tested the new Cayman GT4 Rallye Concept Car ahead of its plans to enter the FIA R-GT class next year. Then it presented the new, eighth generation, 911 at the Areit-Alm high above Zell am See in Austria. This was the first appearance of the new 911 away from a motor show. It was
flown in dangling below a helicopter to the Alm, which lies at an altitude of 1408 metres in the Austrian Alps. Watching the performance were Dr Wolfgang Porsche, brand ambassadors Walter Röhrl and Mark Webber and works drivers Timo Bernhard and Richard Lietz.
|
Jalopnik—The 2020 Porsche 992 911 is finally here. It continues a relatively gradual evolution since 1963 into a car that’s heavier than the one it replaces, and still turbocharged pretty much across its whole range. The good news is that it remains brilliant to
drive, though. Did you expect any less?
| | |
| | Road & Track—Porsche might not be very well-known for its V8 engines, but it should be. Though its flat-sixes sound glorious, there's no knocking its eight-cylinder cars, either. Don't believe me? Just listen to this Panamera GTS.
|
Oversteer by Autotrader—Few cars do it all quite like the Porsche Cayenne Turbo. It's fast enough to be a drag racer, sharp enough to be a sports car, big enough to be a family vehicle and capable enough to be an off-roader. This has always been true of the Cayenne Turbo, pretty much since its launch 15 years ago, but now,
with the redesigned 2019 model, it's more true than ever.
| | |
| | Motor1—There are a lot of ways to enjoy a Porsche 911 on a race track such as the Circuit de Valencia in Spain, and one of them is by putting the sports coupe through its paces in an acceleration test. Not just any 911, but the new-generation 992 model in the Carrera S flavor. Porsche may say the car needs three and a half seconds to reach 62 mph (100 kph) with the optional Sport
Chrono Package, but real-life performance shows it’s actually a lot quicker.
|
Jalopnik—Does the ongoing SUV apocalypse have you down? Here’s some good news: People are still buying fun cars, even if they’re expensive and in some cases way more normal than they used to be. Porsche, for example, had its best sales year ever in 2018. I’ll take that news over the opposite.
| | |
| | Autoblog—The simple act of building and selling the all-electric Porsche Taycan may be a satisfactory step toward a greener planet for many people, but Porsche is going to extra lengths to make the car, and everything around it, as environmentally friendly as possible. The company announced that the Taycan's factory will help clean the air of nitrogen oxide emissions. Nitrogen oxides
contribute to smog, and they're frequently created by diesel vehicles.
