| | PCA—Our lives are filled with first experiences. Your first date, your first time driving a car, and, of course, buying your first Porsche. On Saturday, August 3, the Porsche Club of America celebrated its first ever “PCA Experience” event.

|

Enduro. Join us for the best Porsche simulated racing anywhere! The first race will be August 16. Interested in getting started in Sim Racing? PCA will have information to help you get started and get on track.

| | PCA—These 60 Second Surveys are a quick and easy way to help improve PCA. We appreciate your time and feedback! Each month one person who takes the survey will win $100 credit to the PCA Web Store.
There will be another survey later this month, which improves your odds to win the monthly prize. Only one entry per survey counts toward the prize. August’s winner will be announced in the September 3 edition of e-Brake. Good luck!
August Survey Part I
Congratulations to our July $100 credit to the PCA Web Store winner: Rod Hersberger from Santa Barbara Region! If you didn't take the prior surveys yet, you can still do so. Please note you are no longer eligible for the May, June or July prizes.

PCA—A popular PCA member benefit is The Mart, the club’s classifieds section online and in each issue of Porsche Panorama. Mart Fresh is a bi-weekly column in which PCA media staff and guest contributors pick what they think are the "freshest" Porsches currently available, and then attempt to explain their reasoning. Up
this week are a 1987 911 Turbo, 1992 968, 2018 911 Carrera GTS, and 2018 718 Cayman S.
| | |
| | PCA—RM/Sotheby’s has a long history of knocking it out of the park with sales of private collections. John Dixon’s Taj Ma Garaj Collection is the latest one to be liquidated by RM/Sotheby’s, and given the demographics of the hobby, it won’t be the last. The 30 automotive lots are almost entirely Porsches, so naturally, we’ll be paying attention. Here are
some of the lots that have caught our eye.
|
Automobile—When Porsche gets rolling with its new-car unveils, it tends to really roll. Right on the back of driving the new Porsche Cayman GT4 and 718 Spyder in Scotland, we headed back across the Atlantic to Germany to try three of the company’s newest customer race/track cars: The new Porsche 935—which you can read
about here—the 911 GT2 RS Clubsport, and the Cayman GT4 Clubsport.
| | |
| | Wall Street Journal—Ferdinand Porsche was an enthusiastic National Socialist party member and Hitler’s car guy. Attempts to portray the founder of Porsche as a reluctant Nazi are misguided and unsupported by the evidence. Among other crimes, Porsche directed wartime production in factories using forced labor and guarded by units of the SS. Porsche
himself was awarded the rank of SS-Oberführer. (Ed.: Please note: Subscription to WSJ is needed to read the article. The video is free to watch.)
|
PCA—The popular Porsche show Werks Reunion will be headed back to the Corral de Tierra Country Club on August 16, 2019 near Laguna Seca Raceway, during Monterey Car Week. Though registration is now closed, Porsche Club of America (PCA) welcomes all Porsche clubs, owners, and enthusiasts to join us
at the fifth Werks Reunion in Monterey. Membership in PCA is not required to attend this celebration of Porsche automotive engineering. Expect to view a breathtaking array of Porsches at this free-to-spectators event, from rare classics to current models and everything in between.
| | |
| | PCA—After WERKS Reunion, you dont want to miss all the historic race activities at WeatherTech Laguna Seca Raceway, Our PCA Car Corral will open August 17 and 18. PCA Car Corral Parking Passes are on sale now!
Described as a museum springing to life, the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion is the largest event held during the famed Monterey Classic Car Week, and is the only event where cars are doing what they were originally intended to do…race. Approximately 550 race cars are invited to compete in the world’s premier motoring event, and are accepted based on the car’s authenticity, race provenance, and period
correctness.

Automobile—I felt like Bugs Bunny as I wandered through Chicago’s O’Hare airport: “Shoulda taken that left turn at Albuquerque.” I was on my way to Miami from Berlin but was somehow connecting through Chicago, only 1,000 miles out of my way.
| | |
| | SunTek—The SunTek team had a great time meeting the curious, knowledgeable Porsche Club members at Boca Raton two weeks ago. Many of you enjoyed the Brewster Green GT3 Touring at our booth, immaculately wrapped in SunTek PPF Ultra by our expert installer Auto Super Shield, Boca Raton. We loved the discussions it sparked and telling you a bit more about how
SunTek, with its self-healing and hydro-resist top coat, protects your Porsche and keeps it clean.
We think you will also enjoy watching this Porsche GT2 RS owned by professional golfer, Ian Poulter #GetRoadReady with SunTek. Ian chose SunTek PPF Ultra to protect his full vehicle and used SunTek PPF Ultra Defense, our thicker 11mm film, on the higher impact areas.
|
| | The Smoking Tire via YouTube—RUF Automobile's RTurbo model is pretty much the pinnacle of the 996 world. And I have openly stated that the 996 is my least favorite of all Porsche's. But Ravi Dolwani, owner of CSF Radiators, thinks his RUF RTurbo will bring me around to the 996 world.
|
Top Gear—This is the new Porsche 935, a ‘single-seater, near-standard, non-homologated racing car’ according to Porsche. But more prosaically, it’s a 911 GT2 RS-based, 77-car track toy that pays homage to the monster 911 endurance racer from 1978 - the one they called ‘Moby Dick’. Basically a re-bodied GT2 RS ClubSport.
With extra bits. Quite a few extra bits. And we got to drive it as hard as we wanted to, even though it was all a bit intimidating. But more of that in a minute.

| | Are you attending Monterey Car Week next week? If you are, visit Mecum Auctions!
|
| | Motorweek via YouTube—Sales of SUVs show no signs of slowing down any time soon. And sales of the Porsche Cayenne in particular, seem immune to the economy, fuel prices, or any other socio-economic barrier you can think of. And it goes without saying the all-new 3rd generation Cayenne will be faster than ever. But, will it also be
better?
|
The Drive—You couldn't be blamed for thinking that the Ruf CTR "Yellowbird" is the easiest way to shorten your life courtesy of automotive madness. The Porsche 911 on which it was based was already known for being something of a handful,
and turbocharging the bejeezus out of one didn't make it any easier to drive. Its driving experience is not one we 99-percenters are ever likely to taste, as examples of the Yellowbird tend to sell for more than a million dollars, but fear for one's life while driving isn't an emotion you need to be a millionaire to cultivate. Terror behind the wheel can be had for much, much cheaper.

| | Petrolicious—We all have a car to lust over and daydream about every time we pass a billboard for lottery tickets, and for Daisuke Sakakibara this has always been a Porsche 911. When he was attending university, the 993 generation of the iconic sports car got him hooked on the Porsche brand and kept him motivated in his studies whenever the idea of sake and sleeping in
seemed like a better idea than keeping the books open, and with plenty of hard work and a little luck he was able to buy one of his dream cars. But it took a while.

PCA—Get ready for another PCA National Office Open House! Join us on Saturday, September 14, 2019 for cars, food, and fun with your fellow club members. Tour the national office, learn some cool PCA history with Executive Director Vu Nguyen, and pick up some PCA gear at our pop-up store. We'll also be raffling off some
great prizes, so be sure to register and save your spot!
Registration is open at the following link.

| | Motor1—We can always count on Garage 54 to bring us some crazy Russian entertainment. This time around the episode is special, because the wacky crew lights up our screens not with a Lada, but a snazzy first-generation Porsche Boxster. Or rather, that’s exactly what they want us to think.
|
Car and Driver—Those billboard-flat sides. That bubble canopy. The nose that looked like it was cut out of a solid block with a gigantic ogee router bit. To a car and racing enthusiast coming of age in the 1980s, that was what a race car looked like. It looked like a Porsche 962. All other race cars looked to those
young eyes like simple deviations from the basic correctness of the 962.
| | |
Autoblog—Volkswagen handily beat the original electric car record at the Nürburgring a couple months back, but now the Germans have released some numbers to further break down the lap. The ID.R completed the circuit in just 6:05.336 — you can watch the video above.
| | |
Motor1—A very high percentage of all Porsches ever built is still in operation and that’s due not only to the high build quality standards of the brand but also thanks to service and maintenance with genuine spare parts. But even if a product you are going to use wears the Porsche name or logo, that doesn’t necessarily
mean it’s an original Porsche part or component. To protect you from buying fake parts, accessories, and products, Porsche has a special division that tracks counterfeiters responsible for the production of these unoriginal goods.

| | PCARMARKET has been selling a wide variety of Porsche’s at all price points. You can read the full listings on these cars and many others at PCARMARKET.com.

|
Road & Track—It's not like Porsche was rushing this variant, but you knew it was coming. The BMW X6 has been hurting our eyes since 2008, and a new one is just around the corner. The more recent Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe is available with a 585-horsepower twin-turbo V-8, because AMG always happens to have one ready to
go off its shelves. Frankly, an answer had to be cooked up on the other side of Stuttgart.
| | |
Motor1—The second-generation Panamera still feels fresh even when compared to newer rivals like the Mercedes CLS, AMG GT 4-Door Coupe, and BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe, but Porsche is already looking to give the swoopy liftback an update. We’ve already seen spy shots of the more practical wagon version (Sport Turismo in
Porsche’s vocabulary), and now the time has come to check out the standard variant while out and about testing with some sneaky camouflage.
|
| | Autoweek—It was a familiar refrain in Saturday’s first race of a weekend doubleheader at Road America for Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge by Yokohama, as 18-year-old Canadian Roman De Angelis started the No. 79 Kelly-Moss Road and Race Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car from the pole position and led every lap en route to the victory.
|
InsideEVs—The Tesla Model S first came to market way back in 2012. To this day, there hasn't been a single successful competitor to the innovative, all-electric performance sedan, aside from arguably Tesla's own Model 3. Motor Trend recently named the 2013 Model S the best overall Car of the Year winner for all time.
It's Motor Trend's "Ultimate Car of the Year."
| | |
| | Autoweek—From the shortest track to the longest, Pfaff Motorsports has proven it can get the job done.
The Canadian team -- new to the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship this year -- came to Road America this weekend on the heels of its inaugural win in the GT Daytona (GTD) class one race ago.
|
Autoblog—German prosecutors said on Wednesday they had filed charges against former Audi Chief Executive Rupert Stadler, who is being investigated over his role in Volkswagen's emissions test cheating scandal.
|
| | The Drive—A semi-truck transporting a load of beer was involved in an unfortunate crash on the Autobahn in southwestern Germany, spilling over 10,000 bottles of beer (roughly $13,330 worth) all over the nation’s highway on Friday evening. The truck was carrying a total of 1,280 cases of beer and around 40 percent of it was reportedly lost due to the
crash.
|
| | Jalopnik—You want the speed and thrills of a Porsche 911, but you also don’t want your grandkids to be living in a climate refugee colony somewhere in the Scottish highlands. You want to tear up those winding mountain passes in your brand new Boxster, but you also very much enjoy your annual sojourns to Napa wine country and would prefer it to not burn to
the ground.
