| | PCA—When Porsche launches a significant vehicle, it sometimes gives us a look behind the scenes at the factory in which it’s built, training a camera on what seems like the entire production process. The automaker didn’t disappoint with its latest such video on the Taycan.

| | PCA—A popular PCA member benefit is The Mart, the club’s classifieds section online and in each issue of Porsche Panorama. Mart Fresh is a bi-weekly column in which PCA media staff and guest contributors pick what they think are the "freshest" Porsches currently available, and then attempt to explain their reasoning. Up this week are a 1983 944, 2010
Panamera Turbo, 1975 914 2.0, and 1999 911 Carrera.
|
Carfection via YouTube—Porsche have made their first all-electric car and Henry Catchpole took the Taycan Turbo S for a drive to see it it truly drives like a Porsche should.

Picture this. You’re behind the wheel of your dream 911, the wide road unfurling before your eyes like a glorious ribbon of asphalt, the snow-covered peaks of the Swiss Alps standing tall in the distance. You settle in and run the car out in the first few gears. The engine, supple and smooth with a hint of brashness, stretches its
legs until you reach a flowing tempo that feels just right.
| | |
| | Motorweek via YouTube—How new is new? It’s actually a constant debate around the car biz, and our shop, when it comes to Porsche’s iconic 911. Over 55-years and seven generations, each “new” 911 always seems to be refined, more than reborn. And here we are with the eighth gen 911 ready for the road. So, is it just another notch upward, or has the world’s
quintessential sports car achieved a new level of “new”.
|
| | Top Gear—Boxster versus Z4. You’ve probably seen this one a dozen times or more, and you’ll have never seen the BMW triumphant. Porsche’s little roadster has absolutely dominated its corner of the car world since it launched in 1996, and thus far not even the might of Munich has come close to overturning Stuttgart.

Hagerty—Car enthusiasts have dialed 911 more than a million times in the past half century, not for emergency assistance but to own the car that most succinctly defines Porsche’s essence. The 911’s heart and soul is a rear-mounted six with cooling provided by fins and a fan. This engine has its crankshaft in the middle,
with three cylinders laid flat on each side. Vastly exceeding what you’d expect from a layout that descended from the VW Beetle, the 911 engine provides sparkling performance and a vivid personality. This magnetic combination has attracted parishioners to the Porsche faith since 1965.

| | PCA—PCA is thrilled to be able to offer for sale 1 New-Original-Stock TFA Car Company Porsche soft sculpture pillows. These were made by 46-year PCA member Margie Smith-Haas, the first US woman to compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans (1984) and the first woman in North America to win a professional Road Racing Driver’s Championship in 1994 (as well as
many other notable racing accomplishments). These pillows are new condition “vintage” and sought after by collectors worldwide.
These stuffy creations were licensed by Porsche AG in the 1970s. We currently have only 1 of these pillows (in yellow), and it will be offered for sale on a first-come basis. Large Luxury pillow with wheels that actually turn (16”x8”x8”) is $225 plus shipping. Your purchase also includes an autographed photo and short summary about Margie. Call 410-381-0911 to order. Smith-Haas' racing history here.

Road & Track—We're big proponents of using a track-ready road car as it was intended. Sure, it's great to be all flashy, loud, and uncomfortable on the street, but the best place to actually use these cars at speed without getting arrested is on a track.

| | Autoblog—The 2019 Porsche Macan represents an update of the German luxury brand's bestseller. The changes go beyond a simple facelift, with Porsche tweaking chassis tuning, adding new wheels and better tires, improving brake feel and upgrading technology. In typical Porsche fashion, it has since begun its slow rollout of trims equipped with the new
features. Recently, I had the opportunity to spend a long weekend with the new Macan S.
|
Hagerty—In 1978, auto journalists enthusiastically cheered Porsche’s addition of a grand touring machine to its lineup. In stark contrast to its past sports cars, Porsche’s 928 was powered by a 4.5-liter water-cooled V-8 driving the rear wheels through a rear-mounted five-speed manual or three-speed automatic
transmission. Four occupants enjoyed luxurious accommodations inside distinctive coachwork. The $26,150 base price may seem like peanuts today, but four decades ago, this was a major climb up the luxury ladder for Porsche.

Motor1—Here’s a healthy (or perhaps not healthy) dose of obsessive-compulsive disorder courtesy of Porsche. We’re sure there are plenty of fussy Porsche owners who follow strict routines with regards to their machine, but after seeing this eye-opening (and admittedly humorous) story from Justin Westbrook at Jalopnik, we
know exactly where that behavior comes from.

| | Top Gear—Playing with heritage is a bit like playing with fire – especially if you’re meddling with the rich and lucrative history of Porsche. But this is exactly what the German manufacturer did during Rennsport Reunion last year.
As a 70th birthday present from itself to, well, itself, Porsche showed off a track-only 911 GT2 RS. But not any old track-only 911 GT2 RS. This one was made to look like an icon. A full-blown gizz-us-ya-money homage to the legendary 935 from Le Mans 1978 – the one known in Porsche circles as ‘Moby Dick’.
|
Road & Track—The new Porsche 911 GT3 is one of the best-sounding cars you can buy right now. But like any new car, there's always room for improvement. That's where Akrapovic's exhaust system comes in.
The full exhaust kit, which starts at the headers, is made out of titanium. It's lighter and less muffled than the stock unit, and make the engine sound fantastic (not that it didn't make a great noise before). Check it out here.

| | Motor1—What happens when you have the famed Portimao racetrack all to yourselves and the sun has set and the crowds have disappeared? Well, you can frankly do whatever you want. Which is exactly what the guys over at Top Gear have done in this video. As part of their filming for the 2019 Top Gear Performance Car Of The Year, they've got their hands on a
trio of fantastic cars: the Porsche 935, a McLaren 720S Spider, and a Mercedes-AMG GT R Pro. The night is still young and there's still rubber to burn, so how about a good old drag race?
|
Jalopnik—About a week ago, Porsche released a press release talking about all the new jobs that were being added to build the Taycan, and to make their point that the switch to EV does not necessarily mean loss of jobs. That’s great and all, but I was most struck by one key detail from that release: they seem to refer
to Porsche employees as “Porscheans.” That sounds weird, right?
|
| | Autoblog—Porsche is celebrating the Panamera's 10th birthday by releasing a special variant of the sedan decked out with extra standard equipment and specific visual accents. The 10 Years Edition package is available on the entry-level Panamera, the four-wheel-drive Panamera 4, and the plug-in Panamera 4 E-Hybrid.
|
Motor1—New spy shots provide a fresh glimpse at the Porsche 911 GT3 Touring's development. When it arrives, the model would occupy a spot in the lineup as a GT3 with a focus on providing driving excitement, rather than providing record lap times around a track.
|
| | Roadshow by CNET—The Porsche Taycan has thus far only brought good news to the people at Porsche. Not only did workers fight to have the first electric Porsche produced in Zuffenhausen, the decision created 1,500 new positions. Now, that figure is growing by another 500 positions.
|
Motor1—German Actor Michael Fassbender wants to race at Le Mans, a dream shared by so many yet achieved by so few. Fassbender is an avid racing fan who wants to take his passion for motorsport and attempt to compete at the very highest level of racing. Porsche announced via a cinematic trailer that a YouTube video
series documenting Fassbender’s quest will premiere on October 11th with subsequent videos premiering on a weekly schedule.

Photo by Gary Wolfgang. Suncoast Florida Region. "Here is a December 2018 photo of my one-owner 1996 911 Turbo in
Arctic Silver Metallic at our winter quarters in Venice, FL. The Turbo is a keeper and has been through a lot with Jan and me. We have attended 29 Porsche Parades and the Turbo was driven to Chicago, Traverse City, Savannah, French Lick, Boston, Wesley Chapel, Boca Raton, and some others. I spun it a couple times in my early HPDE adventures, and with practice I learned not to lift."
