PCA—I recently had a great opportunity to spend time with someone whom I’ve raced Porsches against yet had never met and knew very little about. It was another typical
late-summer
| | humid evening in Houston, Texas, and there I was, sitting in one of the city’s many Tex-Mex restaurants across from Jim Huth, a competitor of mine in the newly minted PCA Sim Racing series. In between delicious bites of enchiladas, Jim and I talked Porsches, sim racing, and the familial connections with each.

PCA—If there’s one thing Porsche fans secretly want to do, it’s rummage around Porsche’s offices and see what they can find. Think of everything you would see! Incredible one-off projects! Unannounced
plans for new cars! Special editions never seen by the public! That’s precisely what Porsche let us do at the Porsche Digital headquarters when it unveiled its new 99X Electric Formula E race car on an unexpected platform: Twitch.

This event is for the casual information gatherer to the everyday Porsche mechanic and will be held at the Porsche Training facility in Eastvale, CA which is used to train Porsche technicians and is perfect for this "hand-on" type of event. Porsche Design—Porsche Design honors the next generation of the iconic Porsche 911 with a limited-edition timepiece: the 911 Chronograph Timeless Machine Limited Edition. Like the renowned sports car, the chronograph evokes emotion through its purist design, functionality and high level of performance. Since 1963, the
911 – synonymous with victory, emotion, and innovation – has been the global benchmark for sports cars and an inspiration for Porsche Design, the company founded by Professor Ferdinand Alexander Porsche. With the Chronograph I, the first-ever all-black timepiece, Porsche Design introduced a style-defining classic that revolutionized the industry with its 1972 debut. The monochrome design was inspired by race cars, which eliminated reflections to ensure maximum legibility at all times, thanks to
their matte black surroundings. The minimalist style and understated look of the Porsche 911 perfectly reflected the design philosophy of F. A. Porsche. Now, with a special edition limited to 911 pieces, Porsche Design pays tribute to this motorsports icon, presently in its eighth generation and still thrilling car enthusiasts nearly half a century later.

| | Motor Trend—The wizards of Weissach have done it again.
The 2020 Porsche 911 Carrera S is MotorTrend 's 2019 Best Driver's Car. It's the fifth Porsche to win the award since 2007 and the fourth 911—the Cayman S drove off with the trophy back in 2009.
The 911 may seem immortal, eternal even, but it's always been a work in progress. Generations of engineers have spent their careers buried in the bowels of Porsche's R&D headquarters, polishing, honing, refining, reimagining the car that for more than half a century has been the marque's lodestar.
|
TheSmokingTire via YouTube—The Porsche 992 Carrera S is the rear-wheel drive version of the car Matt did 1,500 miles in just a week before. Aside from the optional ceramic brakes and the 100 lb weight savings and two less driven wheels, the cars are roughly identical, sport-optioned models. The Carrera S is, frankly,
excellent at everything. It's impeccably well made, comfortable, very fast, very sharp, and its speed is very approachable without feeling too artificial. Though lacking some of the 'fizz' you get with the big-bore four-liter GT cars, it's hard to find anything to complain about when the 992 is doing its thing on track.

| | Jalopnik—The Porsche 928 is a pretty incredible car for a lot of reasons, most of which revolve around the fact that it’s the only well-respected serious sports car with a rear based on the design of the AMC Pacer. Seriously, that’s true. But that’s not what I’m talking about today. The 928 has one strange little detail that I think is unique
among nearly every other car, and I think that little detail deserves its own post. Which is exactly what you’re reading, right now!

Road & Track—The best cars we've ever driven are not good in the Corolla or Corvette sense of the word. Machines like the Austin-Healey Sprite or Austin Mini. The first-generation Mazda Miata. Vehicles neither comfortable nor fast but important because they remind us that the best things are
unquantifiable.

Oversteer by Autotrader—It's been a year since I bought the cheapest Porsche 911 Turbo money can buy: a 2002 Porsche 911 Turbo Opens in New Window. Classic Porsche enthusiasts consider it the death of the true 911, as it's the first 911 without an air-cooled engine. Normal people think of it as the ugly 911 with the
weird headlights. But people who actually own one, though, consider the 2002 911 Turbo to be among the best, most reliable Porsches cars ever built.

Autoblog—When digesting this news it will help a skosh to remember that Porsche's new Taycan battery-electric sedan is properly pronounced TIE-can, and that Porsche released a commercial earlier this month called "Kick Up Dust" featuring the selfsame Taycan and a dastardly looking TIE fighter. A week after the
18-second spot debuted, Porsche announced a collaboration with TIE fighter maker Lucasfilm to create a "fantasy starship design."

| | Motor1—It's always cool to see a conventional gasoline powered supercar take on a hybrid supercar for bragging rights. For one, it's always impressive to see how far technology has come; we're seeing even more power and performance from smaller engines and electrically assisted motors. If anything, a drag race like this is a showcase of speed, skill, and
technological performance. Something they've been wanting to do for a long time, Drag Times recently posted a video on YouTube, showing what happens when a McLaren 720S goes head-to-head with the Porsche 918 Spyder at a drag strip at Palm Beach International Raceway. And it's pretty darn close.

| | Road & Track—Porsche confirmed it would be building a wagon version of its Taycan EV back in 2018, dubbed the Cross Turismo. Now, just a month after the reveal of the production Taycan sedan, we have our first look at the wagon version on the move thanks to this spy video from the Nürburgring.

Autoblog—California State Route 33 north of Ojai is a truly wonderful stretch of asphalt that crests a mountain range in Los Padres National Forest in Ventura County north of Los Angeles. Its miles of curving canyon roads contain plenty of sharp, tight turns that require something nimble, but there are also stretches
that warrant a car with some real muscle. A small group of us were driving north from Ojai for Monterey Car Week, and I had the keys to a 2019 Porsche 911 GT3 – the perfect car for just this occasion.

| | Jalopnik—A small heavily-forested area in Northern Germany played host to an ADAC rally for vintage cars last weekend. That sentence alone makes me want to uproot and move to Germany immediately. When I look at the final podium results for the Visselhoeveder Herbstrallye, it makes my eyes well up with tears of beauty. Martin Schutte won the rallye in a
Mitsubishi Evo VII, Helmut Beckmann came in second place in an Evo VIII, and Andreas Dahms came in third with this incredible green narrow body Porsche Carrera.

Autoweek—Between 1976 and 1986, Porsche ran a sequence of 28 fact-heavy, highly technical print advertisements known as the Porsche Consumer Orientation Series. Every Porsche model during that time got at least a couple of these ads (the 928 appears to have been favored with the most), and 1983 saw #21: this vividly
colored centerfold entitled "Introduction, Specifications, and Performance of the 911SC Cabriolet. The newest Porsche under the Sun."
| | |
| | Motorweek via YouTube—Our long term fleet got a whole lot more exciting recently with the arrival of this 2019 Porsche Macan S.
Porsche obsesses over driving. Every vehicle they make - car or SUV - has to drive like a Porsche and that’s absolutely the case with this Macan S. Steering is well-weighted and has a lot of feel. The suspension is somehow firm and comfortable at the same time and that right there is just classic Porsche.
|
Autoblog—It’s nearing old-hat at this point to say, "The Porsche Cayenne is a tall Porsche sports car." But that is exactly the point. The idea of a nearly 5,000-pound, high-riding SUV being agile and sporty may not compute, but there it is. The Cayenne is a vehicle that makes a sports-car fiend shake their head a
couple times — once to express just how ridiculous the premise is when walking up to it, then again while driving in appreciation of how well Porsche managed to execute it. The folks in Zuffenhausen are not known for underachieving.

| | Autoweek—The air temperature reads 36 degrees C -- a completely meaningless number for me. As an American visiting Stuttgart, my ignorance of the metric system had somehow became a point of pride, so I dug in. But I'm sweating, so it must be hot.
A heatwave had swept across Europe, perfectly timed to coincide with the start of our road trip in four of Porsche’s latest motorsports-derived, GT-series 911s. A temperature conversion reveals that it's 97 degrees F. It feels about right.
