| | PCA—It’s one thing to catch somebody, yet it’s another thing to pass. Driving a 2017 Porsche 911 GT3 R in the final PCA Club Racing event of the season at Daytona International Speedway, GTA3 Class points leader Cory Friedman passed 41 cars in the first sprint race to take second place. Fortunately, he had a camera rolling.

PCA—The November issue of Porsche Panorama (see below) features our very first driving impressions of the new all-electric Taycan. The drive took place in Scandinavia in September. Now, the first cars are
beginning to show up in the North American press fleet, so we had the opportunity to drive the Turbo version of the car for the first time in American traffic (formidable LA traffic to be exact). Here’s a quick take on what it was like.
As is the norm, Porsche did its usual thorough job of choosing the route, a good mix of freeways, urban surface streets, and mountain twisties. We waited out the morning rush hour with breakfast and a tech briefing before heading east on I-10 towards the Inland Empire and then cutting north towards Wrightwood and the heart of the San Gabriel Mountains.
| | PCA—In a wide-ranging 25-minute interview today at the Los Angeles International Auto Show, Porsche Cars North America President and CEO Klaus Zellmer and Tech Crunch’s Kirsten Korosec spoke about the future of Porsche. A key
figure given by Zellmer was that 50% of Porsche’s new-car volume will be plug-in by 2025. Whether that figure is regarding plug-in hybrids and/or plug-in electric vehicles was not mentioned.
Following the all-new Porsche Taycan, Porsche’s next EV will be based on the Macan SUV, though an internal combustion engine (ICE) equipped Macan will co-exist with an EV version in the next generation. The new Macan will have design cues from the Taycan, Zellmer says, and he thinks the adoption of EVs over ICE vehicles won’t happen in the next five years, but more likely in the next 10 years.

PCA—Car lovers have always worshiped at the altar of internal combustion, but as the winds shift toward hybridization and electric power, our favorite automaker is proudly showing the way. Leading the charge is Porsche’s all-electric sport sedan, the 2020 Taycan. Check out our first drive. We also delve into the technology behind the Taycan in an-depth look, “Breaking New Ground.” Csaba Csere
makes educated guesses about Porsche’s future EV and hybrid offerings in “The Future Is Electric.” We also take a look at Porsche’s efforts in the "Eclectic and Electric" Formula E race series, and we learn about the challenges faced by Chris Lennon when he converted his hill-climb car to full electric for a "Peak Run" charge up Pikes Peak. For those not ready to switch completely to electric, we drive the Panamara Turbo S E-Hybrid and the Cayenne E-Hybrid.

Formula E—Porsche has two 99X race cars entered in this weekend’s Formula E Diriyah E-Prix. Formula E is the only event in the world that lets fans play an active role in influencing the outcome of the race. FANBOOST gives fans the opportunity to vote for their favorite driver and award them an extra boost of power during the race. The five drivers with the most FANBOOST votes are awarded a
significant burst of power, which they can deploy in a 5-second window during the second half of the race. Let’s show our PCA spirit by voting for either Porsche factory driver, ANDRÉ LOTTERER or NEEL JANI. You can vote once a day right up until fifteen minutes into the race itself.

PCA—It’s dreadfully unfair, really. I’m not a Porsche Guy. The brand's engineering around an imperfect layout has always seemed stubborn, its cars have grown bigger and heavier, and in sunny Los Angeles where I live, 911's don't exactly turn heads in a sea of Lamborghinis and Ferraris. I've warmed to them in recent years — how can you not when the latest 992 is such an undeniably fantastic
car? — but it nevertheless seems a bit unfair to the Porsche faithful that I'm one of the lucky few to make this road trip of a lifetime. I'm picking up a 2020 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S from the original 911 factory in Stuttgart and will drive it on two continents, including on Germany's autobahn and Tennessee's Tail of the Dragon, with a trans-Atlantic crossing by cargo plane in between. Don't hate me.

| | Motor1—When is a damaged Porsche 911 something special? Apparently, the answer is when artist Daniel Arsham is the one destroying the bodywork by adding something unique. His style goes far beyond taking a hammer or saw to the body. Instead, Arsham uses a crystal erosion technique that adds a sparkling, rough finish to the alterations of the exterior. The result is a weird, yet eye-catching appearance.

| | Road
& Track—The Porsche 911 is one of the most versatile sports cars on earth. It's been raced in all sorts of different motorsports, after all. Despite being built for the road, it makes a perfectly suitable rally car.
This one, a 996-generation GT3, took the win at Rallye Köln Ahrweiler, an event in Germany that happened this past weekend. It's had its headlights converted to a later 997-generation setup, and looks fantastic in its black-and white zebra-like livery.
|
The Truth About Cars—TTAC’s own Sajeev Mehta gets the credit for discovering today’s Rare Ride. It’s the most special version of the Porsche 924, and it’s for sale in his hometown in the tiny republic of Texas.
Rare Rides featured one of Porsche’s 924s a couple of years ago, with the Martini Championship Edition (a steal at $7,000). This 924 is much more obscure — and much more expensive. Is this one-of-17 car worth the cool $925,000 asking price?

| | Engine Swap Depot—Jay Lawlor enjoys working on turbocharged Porsche and VR6 engines at his company Speed Density Motorsports (SDM) in Lewisburg, Tennessee. Eventually he decided to combine both with his 2001 Porsche 996 project.
|
Jalopnik—A vintage Porsche 911 RSR is a beautiful thing, but when it has the red mist in its eyes it can be vicious. Have you ever tried to get all up in your dog’s business when there’s food involved? That’s the kind of growl you can expect from a 911 RSR on the hunt for another target on the high banks of Daytona, its preferred feeding grounds, at night. It’s best to just leave well enough
alone, else you might get your nose chopped off like this yellow 911 has in the video below.
| | |
| | Motor1—Porsche is just getting started with its 992 derivatives, and if it will be anything like the previous generation, we could be looking at more than 20 different versions throughout the life cycle. The 991 / 991.2 family was so large that the company decided to come out with a cool video explaining all of them and how they fit in the lineup, from the base Carrera all the way up to the mighty GT2 RS. Seen here courtesy of a spy video from
Carspotter Jeroen is one of the most desirable nameplates in the vast 911 world – Turbo.

Top Gear—What is it?
It’s a delightful nod to the past. The Spyder badge is famous in Porsche history, having being attached to some truly evocative road and race cars dating right back to the Fifties, while the engine is a hark back a little more recently in time. A time when Porsche Boxsters came with lovely, rich, sonorous six-cylinder engines and not flat-fours devoid of soul.

| | Hagerty—About 10 years ago, I’m watching a Palm Beach car auction on TV, and I see a car come up that is described as the “Jay Leno Edition Corvette.” They said it came with a certificate of authenticity, even though I have never produced a Jay Leno Edition Corvette or owned this car, plus they had my golf jacket, although I have never played golf in my life. I watched this whole thing, and the car went for $44,000, about five grand more than
for a regular used Corvette.

Road & Track—We're into restomods as much as the next car magazine, but we're not exactly sure what to make of this car. It's a 996-generation Porsche 911 that's had vintage 911 fascias grafted onto either end, paired with a wide-body kit and some period-correct Fuch-style wheels. We can't decide whether we love it or hate it.

| | Cars.com—The 2019 Porsche Cayenne is a full redesign, marking the third generation of the mid-size SUV. Most changes are found in the Cayenne’s engine compartment and interior. When it made its debut at the Frankfurt International Motor Show, Porsche said “the new Cayenne retains a strong visual connection to its predecessors” — a fun way of saying the styling (at least on the outside) isn’t changing much. And that’s fine, because the Cayenne
still looks plenty unique; when you see one on the road, you know exactly what it is. The same is true of the new one, but it’ll be a little bit hard to tell if it’s the new generation. The easiest way is to spot the larger front air intakes or the new design of the LED headlights and taillights.

CarScoops—Renault arguably started the world’s fascination with souped-up minivans when it unveiled the Espace F1 back in 1994. In the decades since, minivans have become increasingly popular among tuning companies looking to create wild performance machines. This Volkswagen T5 Kombi is one of the finest we’ve come across.
