PCA—In late November, PCA hosted Tech Tactics West at Porsche’s dealer technician
| | training facility in
Eastvale, CA and fortunately there were plenty of Porsche Taycans on hand as well as Lukas Kraemer, Manager of Complete Vehicle, Taycan, to give a presentation to attendees. Kraemer went a step further and allowed us to film a tour of components underneath the EV, as well as inside a car without its interior.

PCA—Let’s face it, humans in general do not like change. I can be among them. So with each new generation of 911, what we think we’ve come to expect are things to be the same with some improvements made. But improvements made
over the lifespan of even one generation can add up to some pretty radical change.
| | PCA—One of the fastest street-legal production cars is the Porsche 991 GT2 RS, with a 700-horsepower twin-turbo flat six and lightning-quick seven-speed dual clutch PDK transmission. It's the followup to 997 911 GT2 RS,
which had 620 horsepower routed through a six-speed manual transmission to the rear wheels. With only one generation separating these two sports cars, we drove them both on the road and on track to find out which one is the better car.

PCA—PCA members know a lot of stuff can fit in our Porsches. Even the front trunk, or “frunk,” as Porsche enthusiasts call it, can hold quite a bit. The Riesentöter Region created a holiday charitable event playing off the name with the Phil-a-Frunk Food Drive.
The Phil-a-Frunk food drive was the brainchild of current Riesentöter Region president, Jeffrey Walton. Walton came up with the food drive idea five years ago while listening to WMMR's Preston and Steve's Camp Out for Hunger morning show that supports the local Philabundance food banks.

Trend—For as long as there's been a Ford Mustang, there's been a Porsche 911. From nearly the moment the two sports cars were introduced—both in 1964—enterprising car enthusiasts have been turning the Mustang and 911 into road racers and rally cars. Perhaps none was more famous than Carroll Shelby's Mustangs or Porsche's early rally-winning 911s.

Road & Track—There's something about a year with a zero at the end that gets our attention. It seems more important. It makes us recall the last "zero" year, causing us to pause and reflect—not only on our own lives (slipping by ever faster), but also on society, politics, the world. And within it, the evolution of the globe's prime mover, object of love, enabler of mobility—but also,
increasingly, the target of growing hatred and attacks: the automobile.

The Drive—Bisimoto, the shop that's brought us undeniably wacky creations like the 1,000-horsepower Honda Odyssey burnout van, has turned its attention to building a classic Porsche racer with an all-electric powertrain. It's not just any racer, though—in fact, it's modeled after a Le Mans-conquering 935. The tuners used original body molds and race-bred parts to make a sub-2,700-pound,
battery-powered monster that puts down 636 horsepower and massive torque.

Autoblog—The sun has set on the seventh generation of Porsche's iconic 911 sports car, as the final 991-generation model has rolled off the assembly line. The final tally for the seventh-generation 911 is 233,540 examples, the last of which is a silver Speedster convertible.

| | Jalopnik—There are few shames deep enough to compete with that of showing up at a track day and proving yourself to be woefully, incompetently unprepared. While we all have to learn somehow, it’s still possible to identify all those silly mistakes and figure out how to prevent them before you look like a fool out there.

Petrolicious—Seeing a 917 fire up anywhere is a special enough experience, but perhaps some places are better than others for appreciating just what a wonder this car is. Flat chat down the Mulsanne straight for example… or perhaps on the street, with the engine noise echoing off apartment blocks and cafes? Claudio Roddaro, the owner of this street legal 917, the last chassis number produced,
gets to make that a reality.

PCA—In the 1980s, when the Berlin Wall still partitioned east from west, the local Region of PCA — yes, there really was such a thing — assembled 20 Porsches for a tour of the city’s Soviet sector. We’re working on an article for an upcoming issue of Porsche Panorama and would like to hear from anyone who was part of the group. Please send an email to Damon Lowney:

The Drive—We’re nearing the peak of the holiday season, which means you’ve likely got a bit of vacation time to catch up on wrenching in your garage. But should you take a break and feel like getting into the holiday spirit, one mechanic-turned-maestro wants to remind everyone that you can do so by diving into your toolbox.

The Drive—Neglected supercars are not new phenomena; with many parking lots in the Middle East known for housing plenty of eye-candy under thick coats of dust due to abandonment. But in less oil-rich parts of the world such as Chile, limited-production, six-figure supercars aren't quite as disposable and therefore rarely seen abandoned. That's one of the surprises about the Porsche 911 GT2 RS
seen above.

| | Petrolicious—Turns out Ford is not the only company reliving its past Baja 1000 endeavours, though admittedly, this Baja-ready, 964-gen 911 prototype isn’t an official Porsche product.
|
| | Motor1—The German rivalry between Porsche and Mercedes-Benz continues. We can’t seem to get enough of the new 911 Carrera taking on various editions of the Mercedes-AMG GT, and this time we have a GT63 S four-door from Affalterbach battling a new Carrera S from Stuttgart. This is a quarter-mile competition, and if you recall from the last Mercedes-versus-Porsche race we featured, the 911 did quite well in the shorter distance.

Inside EVs—Porsche has started customer deliveries of the Taycan in the U.S. as the first owner posted photos of his top-of-the-line Taycan Turbo S.
Greg Wyler received hiscar on December 19th, just in time to fit it under the Christmas tree.
|
Autoblog—The 2019 Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid is a sneaky performance crossover disguised as a plug-in hybrid. Porsche places it below the Cayenne S in its price and performance hierarchy, but the E-Hybrid is arguably more fun and enjoyable to drive than the S. Thank the 134-horsepower electric motor that delivers all of its torque right away, bringing power output all the way up to 455 horses
and 516 pound-feet of torque. It uses the 3.0-liter single-turbo V6 out of the base Cayenne that makes 335 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque as its fuel-burning source of power. This is then routed through an eight-speed automatic transmission that sends power to all four wheels.
| | |
| | Inside EVs—Despite recent news that the Porsche Taycan will offer much less range than advertised, one of its top selling points is its super-fast charging capability. Porsche maintains that the Taycan will feature a 350 kW charging rate. For comparison, the Tesla Model 3 Long Range can now charge at 250 kW. However, this would only be possible at a V3 Supercharger.
|
| | Motor
Trend—Porsche is betting big on the Taycan. Make no mistake, Taycan is more than just greenwash, more than just a hastily improvised mea culpa for the Volkswagen Group's dieselgate shenanigans. Porsche is spending more than a billion dollars to bring its first electric sports car to market, almost $800 million of that on a dedicated new factory.
|
Motor1—Yes, there's nothing new about seeing the 992-generation Porsche 911, but this one wears the optional Aerokit, which isn't yet available for delivery on the new model, according to our spies. The equipment doesn't arrive until the first half of 2020 The most noticeable addition from this package is the large, fixed rear wing on the back.
