PCA—After years of teasing and hype, Porsche is finally set to unveil its first electric vehicle, the Taycan sedan, on Wednesday, September 4, at 9 AM EDT. Though we've seen the Taycan in various stages
of development — sometimes with very little camouflage — Porsche has been able to keep the final design under wraps.
| | PCA—Lately, Porsche has been obsessed with setting records. A global tour of the 919 EVO has been making headlines, setting records at the Nürburgring, Laguna Seca, and Spa. Perhaps a little more under
the radar they’ve had the production 911 GT2 RS out and about as well. The GT2 RS, Porsche’s production monster, puts down an impressive 700 horsepower, which makes it an excellent candidate to dominate at one legendary track in particular.
|
PCA—On Wednesday Porsche made a significant step in the rollout of its Formula E program by unveiling the 99X Electric, the automaker’s first EV race car, which will race in the 2019/2020 season.

PCA—Porsche announced the facelifted 2019 Macan in July 2018, but there was no mention of a Turbo variant. On Wednesday, that changed when Porsche revealed the 2020 Macan Turbo, which gets a the 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V6 that has served in the Panamera S and 4S for some time.

Automobile—Driving any Porsche 911 is special. But when that 911 has the GT3 badge on its engine lid, that’s when you start wondering how much your children are worth or whether Satan exists and would be willing to make a sizable down payment on your mortal soul.
| | |
| | Motorweek via YouTube—We were among just a handful of journalists invited to drive the all-electric Porsche Taycan in Stuttgart, Germany. It's heavily camouflaged and we can't divulge all the details, but we learned enough about its driving characteristics to get VERY excited.
|
CarSales—The Porsche 911 has been around for more than 50 years – and Porsche reckons it'll be around in petrol-powered form for at least another 50.
That's the word from the Stuttgart sports car maker, which says the combustion engine is not an endangered species.
Not yet… Maybe never.

| | LN Engineering—A particular additive package from Lubrizol has been favored by Brad Penn, which became DA’s Penn Grade, and Valvoline for their VR1, for their oils. This package used a sodium-based detergent which was known to be gentler, resulting in a more robust ZDDP film, but the sodium detergent has since been found to cause low speed pre-ignition, or
LSPI. Coupled with the fact that this additive wasn’t a money maker for them, Lubrizol sadly discontinued this package. For those of you who follow us on Facebook, you might have seen posts in late December of 2018 and January of 2019 advising of these changes. We have since verified through oil analysis that indeed there were formulation differences forced by Lubrizol’s change to any oils that relied on this now unavailable additive package.
The American Refining Group, who previously manufactured Brad Penn before selling the Penn Grade brand to DA Lubricants several years back, reached out to Driven for help in developing lubricant products for the performance market using ARG’s unique base stock. Due to Driven’s strong focus on continuing research and development, Driven has been developing their own additive formulations, resulting in even better oils than
those offered in years past, so they are very familiar with lubricant development and testing.

Autocar—Stuttgart’s groundbreaking 700bhp-plus pure-electric four-seat sports car is driven in pre-production form.
For reasons I think I understand, this story feels different. Every week, we go some place to drive some thing, and lucky we are to do so. But to drive the first all-electric Porsche – well that, surely, is different.

| | Automobile—If you follow Pro Racer’s Take, you know we never hesitate to put Porsches to the test around our home base of NCM Motorsports Park in Bowling Green, Kentucky. And for good reason: Stuttgart makes some of the best cars in the business, from sports cars to performance SUVs and sedans to (soon) the all-electric Taycan, though we’ll have to get some
more seat time in the latter to know if it ultimately meets expectations.
|
Motor Trend—If you love vintage Porsches, especially the 356 models, then chances are you know of the man, the Outlaw—Rod Emory—who has made a career out of meticulously restoring 356s in his trademark Outlaw style. Then there are special one-offs like the Emory Motorsports 1960 Porsche 356 RSR Outlaw, a passion project
that showcases Emory's vision and hand-built production prowess.
| | |
| | Road & Track—In the 1990s, Porsche offered a factory racing version of its 993-generation 911 Carrera to customers, dubbed the Cup 3.8 RSR. According to RM Sotheby's, just 45 examples were built. If this video is anything to go by, it might be the best-sounding 993 of all.

Hagerty—I come to bury Ferdinand Piëch’s famed history, not to praise it. By now, with news spreading of Piëch’s death at age 82, you’ve no doubt read remembrances of the Porsche 917, the Bugatti Veyron… possibly even the hyper-efficient (and hyper-costly) Volkswagen Lupo 3L, the world’s most fuel-efficient standard
automobile and one reportedly born from a misunderstanding regarding an upcoming Renault product. (The Lupo 3L got its name from its fuel consumption of 3 liters per 100 km, or 78.4 mpg; the Renault Clio 3L was a madcap mid-engined subcompact with, you guessed it, a 3.0-liter V-6.)
|
| | Motor1—All-wheel drive lets a vehicle maximize its traction by using both axles for putting the power down to the road. For an example of how this setup can help a model perform, check out this video of a Mercedes-AMG GT S doing a quarter-mile drag race against a Porsche 911 Carrera 4 GTS.
|
Motor1—The many variants of the 992-generation of the Porsche 911 are still rolling out, but the Carrera S remains the top dog so far with 443 horsepower (330 kilowatts) from a 3.0-liter twin-turbo flat six. More powerful versions are coming, but if any 992 owners are hungry for more power, Litchfield is now ready to
help them.

The Drive—Stuttgart bet the farm on the first-generation Porsche Cayenne in 2002. The company was in near ruins, hemorrhaging cash, and without a new hit in years. But the Cayenne succeeded in that critical moment when most believed failure was imminent. It was helped by the nascent crossover boom, sure, but it also
offered great on-road handling, real off-road ability, and a ludicrous options list—including the forgotten but incredible rear-mounted spare tire.

If you missed the first 2 Driven to America events, here’s your chance to be part of something very special. Driven to America signifies the moment
| | in history when Max Hoffman made a deal with Ferdinand (Ferry) Porsche to import the air-cooled sports cars to America in 1951.
On October 6, 2019, Porsche owners, racers, collectors, and fans will gather for another historic event at one of the most magnificent properties on the east coast. Fort Hill on Long Island, NY. Some of the Marques most important and special road and race cars will be on display along with the people who drive the passion.
Visit DTA-3.com for more info about the event, where to stay, and what to expect. Driven to America is a world class event that should not be missed.

| | Motorweek via YouTube—Performance and efficiency is what you get with the 2020 Porsche Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid.
|
Automobile—The Taycan EV is the most significant all-new Porsche since the first Cayenne launched in 2003. That’s quite the proclamation, but lest you think this is hyperbole, remember what the Taycan represents: It’s Porsche’s first all-electric car, and the super-sedan rings the starting bell on the brand’s focused
march toward electrification. The official debut is still a short while away, but thanks to a quick overnight trip to Stuttgart, we now have time behind the wheel of a near-production prototype. We can’t talk about much technical details—check back next week for a full rundown on specs, charging specifics, and launch date—but we can provide a look at what to expect.
| | |
| | Road & Track—Porsche built the the 917 PA Spyder to race in Can-Am in 1969. Just two examples were constructed, but just one was actually raced. Powered by the company's 4.5-liter flat-12, it sounds as wonderful as you'd expect.
|
| | Automobile—Base. Entry level. Starter. You can call the 2020 Porsche 911 Carrera a lot of things, but just don’t call it slow. On the glassy smooth two-lane roads snaking through these rural hamlets, locals move along at a healthy pace in their de-badged Audis and Benzes while opposing traffic flows past with similar vigor. Brief gaps occasionally occur
amidst the rhythm, and our Racing Yellow 911 Carrera is craving a good gallop.
|
Motor1—The final examples of the Porsche 918 Spyder were assembled in mid-2015 and this concluded the production of the company’s flagship hypercar. While everyone out there is probably hoping for a successor of the hybrid machine to come soon, it won’t be until 2025 when the brand from Stuttgart is going to launch a
new hypercar. The reason for the big delay is the fact that Porsche doesn’t believe the battery technology of today is suitable for a range-topper of this level.
| | |
Digital Trends—Porsche’s app-based, Netflix-like subscription service is slowly exiting the pilot project phase. Starting in August, the service is available in three additional American cities and one in Canada.
