PCA—Let’s face it: barn finds are intriguing. There’s a cast of characters and a story to be found in every one. After all, it’s not just about finding a car, it’s about finding its story of abandonment. But it’s also a
bit like opening a box of Cracker Jack, especially in the old days when the prizes were better. There’s the box itself, or in this case our barn. Then there’s a tasty treat and that cool prize inside.
| | PCA—Working on your own Porsche can be daunting if you've never done it before, so in our new series, Tech Tactics Live, we'll be regularly broadcasting DIY car projects live. In the first episode, which aired April 18 at
1 PM EDT, we installed a new shifter into a 1997 Porsche Boxster, replacing the original unit with a 997-generation GT3 shifter. Join along with Executive Director Vu Nguyen and Tech Expert Peter Smith as they tackle the job.

Call up Porsche Classic, of course, and let them help you create your very own “Classic Masterpiece.” Editor Sass flew to Portugal to test a couple of new GTS models — the 718 Boxster and the Macan — which are definitely “A Cut Above.” Ryan Carignan got full access to the Pfaff Motorsports team
during the 2020 Rolex 24 at Daytona, where he witnessed their trials and tribulations as they raced “Twice Around the Clock.” Rich Sanders purchased a 914-6 from its original owner in 2008 and turned it into a GT tribute. Read about his journey in “Tributaries.” Esther Piller’s 1969 912 “Cricketeer” has been in her family since new and is still going strong.
All that plus the continuing intrigue of “The Spy Collector” and two new projects from the always inventive Alois Ruf.

PCA—These days, we're not getting out much due to social distancing orders throughout North America. That means we're driving our Porsches less, or perhaps don't plan to drive them at all until stay-at-home orders are lifted. Here are ten things you can do to ensure you keep your car in good condition as you store it.

| | PCA—Each time we successfully complete what we think will be an epic adventure the next one proves to be even more challenging. This was the second winter Alcan 5000 entered by Dolores and Richard Ranhofer and their Porsche Cayenne "Otis" and the first for Jeff Lebesch and his Macan. Eaun Pollock did his first at the summer 2018 Alcan rally. The 2020 Alcan went beyond what even the professional drivers competing were
expecting.

PCA—You could be forgiven if you were unaware that other Porsche reds exist besides the near ubiquitous Guards Red. Guards is a classic shade of red that resembles the iconic Ferrari color Rosso Corsa, or “Racing Red.” In truth, it’s not a pure red at all, it has more than a bit of yellow in it, like the color of a ripe tomato. From the 1970s to the present, Guards Red has been an ever-popular
Porsche color. Almost crushingly popular, sometimes it seems like half the production of 911 SCs and 944s were Guards Red. As a result of the color’s dominance, some other great Porsche reds have been overlooked. Here are five of our favorites.

PCA—The 1968 model year was an odd one for Porsche, as the automaker removed the S from the US lineup and offered just one engine for the last year the 911 would retain its original wheelbase. That makes a 1968 911 somewhat rarer than most, and in a flashy color like this one's Bahama Yellow, even more so. Owner Kelly Telfer knows he has a special car and explains how he got it and what it
means to him in the video above.
| | |
| | Porsche via Vimeo—Dr. Frank-Steffen Walliser, VP of the 718 & 911 model lines and one of the creators of the 911 Speedster, speaks to why details matter in designing sports cars and the piece is accompanied by a beautiful sketch of the 911 Speedster created by artist Stefan Marjoram (@stefanmarjoram). The unique auction, featuring the 911 Speedster, is taking place right now to benefit United Way Worldwide (@UnitedWay) and its COVID-19
fund. Visit RM Sotheby’s website for more details about the auction.

Autocar—We try not to be too obvious with our end-of-year stories. It’s early November, and with a pair of middle-aged Porsches sitting in the rain-swept car park of a golf course in Cheshire, the bigger risk is probably not being obvious enough.
There’s a fine Autocar tradition at play here. We like to round off every year by celebrating some of the cars we’ve ploughed our own money into during the past 12 months, from abject sheds upwards. The original idea for 2018 was to stick with the usual format, until my announcement that I had bought a Porsche Cayman S triggered a senior editorial revelation: regular contributor Richard Webber owns a near-identical
car.

| | Car
and Driver—For a moment, put aside thoughts of speed, adhesion, and power. Don't think about heritage, beauty, or price. Before we get to that, we'd like you to consider how tremendously good the 2021 Porsche Turbo S is when it's going slow. Whether its urban trawling, suburban errands, or a lackadaisical back-roads tour, this is the best really fast car there is when velocities sink to a crawl.

MotorWeek via YouTube—MotorWeek takes a look at a 911 Turbo modified by DP Motorsport to have a 935-style body.
| | |
| | Hagerty—It sounds crazy now, but in the 1970s, the Porsche 911’s days looked numbered. The signature sports car had been around for a while, and in the United States, where more than half of all Porsches sold at the time, safety and emissions regulations were becoming onerous and ever-changing. With all of the uncertainty, Porsche had to start facing the notion that the 911 might be too complicated to make compliant. Of course, the 911 never
went anywhere, but just in case, Porsche started work on a new model.

Road & Track—Remember Dieselgate? How can we forget. Volkswagen and its subsidiaries sold emissions-cheating diesel passenger cars by the truckload, only stopping after being caught red-handed by an independent testing lab. We, or at least I, felt pretty dumb, because I had promoted those diesel products—they drove well! Very quickly, Volkswagen pivoted away from diesel and towards
electrification. Audi’s E-Tron crossover, Porsche’s E-Hybrid variants of the Panamera and Cayenne, and now the all-electric Taycan super-sedan have brought mainstream German build quality to Tesla’s meme-based EV culture. The Taycan Turbo S was the best car I drove last year, the kind of EV you’d expect from a company that races at LeMans.

| | Autoweek—Patrick Long may work on his go-kart while on the phone with you, as he did with me. Or he might instead juggle a soccer ball and move it back and forth on a small piece of AstroTurf. The Porsche factory driver and founder/owner of Luftgekühlt (the traveling, air-cooled-only Porsche show) is quarantined like the rest of us but keeps himself plenty busy and often needs to multitask. Aside from responsibilities from Porsche, Luft
meetings and a book he’s putting together, Long also restores old 911s for celebrities and home-schools his two-kids.
|
| | Automobile—Taken as a pure sports car, the 2020 Porsche 718 Boxster S is nearly perfect. If you time-warped a warehouse full of 718 Boxster S and 718 Cayman S models back to the mid-2000s, the duo would be hailed as the greatest daily driver sports cars the world had ever seen—and not just as entry-level Porsches playing in the 911's shadow. The 2020 Porsche 718 Boxster S might not be as visually dramatic as an early Ferrari F430 or
Lamborghini Gallardo, but this turbocharged four-cylinder roadster leaves both of those yesteryear super-athletes gasping for air when the light turns green.

Autoblog—Most mini refrigerators, you know for like a dorm room, measure 4.5 cubic feet. According to the kitchen experts at Good Housekeeping, the most stylish is Daewoo’s Retro Compact model. “You can pick from five different colors and even get a matching microwave!” says its review.
Why are we telling you this? Perspective.
| | |
| | Motor1—If you ask people which car has the most iconic design, I'll wager the Porsche 911 will be at least on the top 10 or top 5 even. The sports coupe has sported the same shape throughout its near-60 years of existence, and that says something about how strong the car's identity is.

Car and Driver—High-revving, naturally aspirated Porsches excite us. When we tested a manual-equipped 991-generation 911 GT3 in 2018, we said that "it delivers a driving experience so glorious that we can't help but wonder if it is a great Porsche or perhaps the greatest Porsche." We might have to re-evaluate our choice
of words soon, because the 992-generation GT3 might be even better.

| | Autoblog—On the surface, Volkswagen's resurrection of Bugatti looks like one of the many chess-like moves made in its bold quest to expand its portfolio of brands during the late 1990s. In a way, it was; branching out into new segments motivated executives to buy a once-venerated French brand that hadn't made a car in years. On a secondary level, the acquisition allowed one man to fulfill his dream of developing the world's most prestigious
car. Bugatti opened its archives to tell the story of how its first 21st-century car, the Veyron, was born.
