PCA—Many of us work on our own cars to some extent, whether changing the oil, replacing brake pads, or performing other kinds of general maintenance. Some of us are even more proficient hobby mechanics and can perform extensive work in a home garage. But one task that has always seemed best left to professionals is building an engine. After watching Focus On: M9X Engine Assembly with some healthy
skepticism, I came away with more knowledge of how the M97 engine in my own Porsche works as well as more confidence in my unproven ability to build its engine.
| | PCA—Tech Tactics East 2020 will once again be hosted at the PCNA Training facility in Easton, PA. This facility trains Porsche technicians on the intricacies of new Porsches while at the same time providing valuable training on
the Porsches of old. Equipped with state-of-the-art classrooms with lifts and drive train assemblies, the training facility is perfect for this hands-on type of event.
Attendees will be treated to a day of presentations by auto industry experts, including PCNA Field Specialists, PAG Project Managers, members of the PCA Technical Committee, and representatives from other companies such as Michelin, LN Engineering, and Total Seal.
|
| | PCA—A popular PCA member benefit is The Mart, the club’s classifieds section online and in each issue of Porsche Panorama. Mart Fresh is a bi-weekly column in which PCA media staff and guest contributors pick what they think are the "freshest" Porsches currently available, and then attempt to explain their reasoning. Up this week are a 2007 911 Turbo, 1973 914 2.0, and 1986 944.

| | PCA—Working with Benjamin Dimson, lead exterior designer of the model, as well as with the cooperation of Jens Torner of the Porsche Museum Archive, Dutch author and enthusiast Paul Keobrugge explores the 964’s development and production in his recently published book, Porsche 964: The Modern Classic. Now updated after 20 years in its newly printed fourth edition, The Porsche 356: A Restorer’s Guide to Authenticity IV, authored by
serial 356 collector and aficionado Dr. Brett Johnson, aims to steer collectors and restorers through the myriad production changes that occurred during the 356’s lengthy production run from 1948-1965.

Motor Trend—Is today April 1? Because it appears we found an Easter egg in Porsche's commercial for Super Bowl LIV. Specifically, it appears the German sports-car brand snuck the upcoming, next-generation 911 GT3 into the background of the ad. Don't believe us? Then click to the 44-second mark and have a look for yourself.

| | Jalopnik—I know there is a camp of you who don’t believe in washing your cars. And that’s fine! Cars live outside and you don’t really see a point in keeping them shiny and clean. It’s a wrong take, but I respect it all the same. But here today, I bring you a practical reason to wash your car. It has to do with money.

Inside EVs—Will Smith has to be one of the most recognizable actors anywhere in the world, which is why you can imagine the shock unsuspecting Lyft ride hailing app users had when he rolled up in a Porche Taycan Turbo S. One of the world’s coolest actors driving one of the fastest EVs? You can imagine what a special ride that was.

| | Jalopnik—The Panamera Sport Turismo GTS is a freaking V8 turbo Porsche station wagon. Even if you’re just mildly into cars, that description alone should have you fired right up. I will say, this car is not exactly what I expected, but it is pretty fresh.
|
Porsche Newsroom—After a strong team effort, the two nine-elevens fielded by the Porsche GT Team finished on second and third place. Porsche, which won the manufacturers’ championship in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship last year, is now second in the points after Daytona.

The Market Speaks on PCARMARKET?
If you’ve been following PCARMARKET, you’ve had the opportunity to discover the current pricing trends in the market. Although there’s no shortage of buyers, they’re unwilling to speculate on pricing as many did 3-4 years ago. Today buyers are more focused on buying the car at the right price to protect from any further downturn. But there is tremendous opportunity for sellers as well. Quality, fairly-priced
cars will sell on PCARMARKET without drama to quality buyers.
The PCARMARKET Team will effectively market your Porsche to the right audience.

The company has been crafting motor homes for half a century, and the p50 was created to honor the company's 50th anniversary. Newell also has a longstanding partnership with Porsche Design, which collaborated with Newell on the body style of the motor home.

| | Jalopnik—Back in April of last year, one of the world’s best collections of vintage Porsches, the Ingram Collection, was severely damaged when a natural gas explosion destroyed the building right next to the collection in Durham, NC. That collection had many rare and incredibly valuable old 356s and 911 and Speedsters and all kinds of amazing stuff, and a number of these cars were very badly damaged in the explosion. Now, they’re showing up on
salvage auction sites, and, even beat to hell, are probably still far too expensive for anyone I know.
|
Hagerty—There's a saying that goes, "there's no replacement for a Porsche." Anyone lucky enough to drive one can attest that the air-cooled flat-six, snug cabin, and rear-engine handling dynamics of a vintage Porsche add up to a truly special driving experience. And while not every Porsche worth driving is of the air-cooled variety, there’s something undeniably special about sampling the
original recipe.

| | Motor1—The 991 Porsche 911 GT2 RS is the most powerful and capable 911 to ever leave the Porsche factory. But for some customers, stock is simply not enough. One particular GT2 RS owner decided he wanted to build the fastest 911 GT2 RS possible, so he called the Porsche specialists over at BBI Autosport who got to work creating a 227 mph monster.
|
USA Today—For generations, Porsche has been known to its loyal fans as a brand with exquisitely designed and engineered sports cars.
Specialty vehicles like the tiny-but-powerful 911 sport coupe have been central to its identity.
But in recent years, the Volkswagen Group luxury brand has transformed itself into a maker of sport utility vehicles brand with lower prices and bigger sales.

Luftgekühlt Diplomacy in the Cold War

PCA—In the 1980s, when the Berlin Wall still partitioned east from west, the local Region of PCA — yes, there really was such a thing — assembled 20 Porsches for a tour of the city’s Soviet sector. We’re working on an article for an upcoming issue of Porsche Panorama and would like to hear from anyone who was part of the group. Please send an email to Damon Lowney:

| | Car and
Driver—The 911 Speedster is a special car, and the 991-generation 911 was just given its sendoff with its own Speedster variant—only 1948 of which were built. It's quite special: chopped-off roof, lowered windshield, a fairing behind each seat, and, for the 991-generation Speedster, a naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six from the venerated GT3 mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. But, if you want something even rarer, you could always head over to Bring a Trailer and slap a bid on
this pristine 41-mile 1989 911 Speedster, which was never even registered for street use.
|
Motor1—Rauh-Welt Begriff (RWB for short) has a polarizing presence in the Porsche community because of proprietor Akira Nakai's preference for ultra-wide fenders, deep-dish wheels, and ground-scraping suspensions. Power upgrades don't necessarily have to be part of the package, which can give the creations a feeling of all-show-and-no-go. Still, if you have any curiosity about seeing what
driving an RWB vehicle is like, then this is a must-see video.

| | Autotrader.ca—Green vehicles, which includes both hybrids and EVs, is a segment that’s exploding in popularity right now. It’s also one that might show more innovation and risk-taking than any other, especially for premium-price green vehicles. With such rapid change, it becomes even harder to separate the wheat from, well, wheat that’s not quite as good. There’s little room for chaff here.

Inside EVs—Pretty much every driving review of the Porsche Taycan, including our own, has been glowingly positive. It's been called everything from the best electric car today, to the best new Porsche you can buy.
However, there has been one criticism that many have pointed out, and that's the low EPA range rating that the vehicle earned. The Taycan Turbo and Taycan Turbo S have a 93.4 kWh battery, of which 83.7 kWh is usable. Porsche basically holds back 10 kWh of the pack as a buffer, to restrict the depth of discharge, referred to as the DoD, which in turn will extend the life of the pack.

The Drive—To a growing number of Germans, the Autobahn is no longer a point of national pride, but of national hubris. Germany's famous network of largely speed limit-less highways is under scrutiny for being potentially unsafe and, in an era of an escalating climate crisis, environmentally irresponsible. These concerns put the de-limited Autobahn in the line of fire last year and in 2020,
Germany's speed limit-free stretches of highway lost an important ally in their fight for continued existence.

Porsche Newsroom—Neel Jani was forced to retire from the race after just a few laps in his #18 Porsche 99X Electric. André Lotterer crossed the finishing line at the Santiago E-Prix in 22nd place in his #36 Porsche 99X Electric, but was later disqualified having exceeded the maximum permitted power amount. Victory went to Maximilian Günther, ahead of António Félix da Costa and Mitch
Evans.

Muscle Cars & Trucks—The 2021 C8 Corvette Z06 has been caught testing in the mountains of California this week, and the video that bystanders managed to take revealed one hell of an engine note from its upcoming DOHC flat-plane crank V8. However, they missed something: the benchmark car. Turns out, it’s none other than a 911-generation Porsche 911 GT2 RS. It’s evident from Facebook
user Brandon Byers, who managed to grab a photo and share it for the world to see.
|
Motor1—Porsche is moving on plan with the development of the Taycan Sport Turismo as these new spy photos confirm. If you are unfamiliar with that moniker, it’s the stylish wagon-ish version of the Taycan electric vehicle, which is expected to debut in its final production form later this year.
|
Road & Track—The rear-engine layout of the Porsche 911 has some serious advantages on the drag strip. When you're launching from a standstill, having a lot of the car's weight directly over the rear axle helps you put the power down to the rear wheels. But it also means there's not a lot hanging over the front axle, making the 911 capable of serious wheelies when
modified.

Hagerty—Road trips are a mythical thing. Some consider them a rite of passage on the journey of life, but though the adventure of travelling by car or motorcycle is extolled to no end, the less glamorous details are often left out. These big adventures can take wrong turns—both literally and figuratively—with alarming speed.
