PCA—On the record, Chevrolet’s new mid-engined C8 Corvette is merely an interesting curiosity to the folks at Porsche AG and PCNA. Behind closed doors, one gets the impression that the threat assessment
is
| | a little bit different.
For about the same money, the Corvette brings a 490-horsepower V8 against a 300-hp turbo four, and it’s nearly two seconds faster from zero to 60 miles per hour. Maybe not a result of the C8’s intro, but at least suspiciously close in time, Porsche announced the latest extension of the 4.0-liter naturally-aspirated flat-six into the 718 lineup — the Boxster and Cayman GTS.

PCA—You've probably heard the name Bruce Canepa if you're a fan of Porsches or vintage racing. You've definitely seen him on track at Porsche Rennsport Reunion. Yet you might not know much else about the man outside of his
racing activities and affinity to the Porsche 959. That's why we decided to visit his massive shop and showroom and find out what makes him tick.
Starting in early March, look out for a video series on PCA's YouTube channel that will cover a variety of subjects.
| | PCA—Cayenne and Macan owners in the San Diego Region hit the trails on January 25 for a fun and challenging drive in the Anza Borrego Desert State Park. Like most of the off-road adventures the San Diego Region puts on, the
plan was to experience three or so hours of off-roading on trails that would not only challenge the vehicles, but provide their drivers some direct experience and help them learn to navigate challenging terrain.

| | PCA—There are few things more terrifying and destructive than fire. But it can also lead to rebirth, as in the case of Van Bagley’s 1986.5 928S, which was nearly burned up. Read about how his car was “Resurrected,” with some impressive upgrades to boot. In early 2019, Porsche launched the newest 911 with the upgraded S model. But as we found in our first drive of the recently released base 911, “A High Standard,” it is anything but basic. At
last year’s Parade, a radical-looking 930 Turbo “Polar 911” caught our eyes, but its history, including 32 years spent in storage, is even more interesting. Northern Ohio Region member Marie Quintana first spotted a Cayman a decade ago, and was absolutely smitten. Read about her custom Cayman in “Instant Attraction.” Designer Grant Larson has had a distinguished 30-year career at Porsche. Read his interview in “Company Man.”
All this plus bios of the newest National PCA office holders, a note from PCA President Tom Gorsuch, and much more.

| | PCA—Porsche Club of America Regions create fantastic opportunities to give back to their communities. Sometimes PCA Regions even partner with celebrities. PCA just happens to have a very famous Porsche enthusiast who calls the Down East Region area home – Patrick Dempsey.
In 2017, Down East Region President Nate Marcoux and new member Lou Jacobs envisioned bringing three passions of Patrick Dempsey together for one event: The Dempsey Center, Porsches, and Maine.

| | Petrolicious—If you consider yourself a Porschephile (or have spent enough time around people who label themselves as such), then you’re probably all too aware that the pinnacle of the 901-generation P-car experience is the 1973 Carrera RS. That’s not a fact, but it’s pretty darn close. The car has been described as the ultimate early 911 time and time again by enthusiasts, collectors, and race car drivers for good reason.

| | Motor1—Drag races and tugs-of-war are just among the contests we enjoy watching. They're tests of what differing machines could offer in terms of power and torque. While drag races are more prominent here, tugs-of-war are becoming popular, too, basically because it's easy to see a clear winner.
This video by Garage 54 is a bit different than the Youtube channel's usual wrecking experiments. Our main guy here pits four SUVs against each other, in round-per-round tug-of-war battles to see which one's the toughest.

| | Porsche Newsroom—André Lotterer (DE) recorded the fastest lap in Super Pole to secure pole position at the fourth race of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship in Mexico City (MX) and claim another highlight for Porsche in the fully-electric race series. He scored three points in the drivers’ championship.
Lotterer did not, however, enjoy such good fortune in the race itself.

| | Jalopnik—As humans, we have the exquisite ability to see a whole range of wonderful colors. Researchers have chalked healthy humans eyes up to being able to distinguish around a million. So why are most of our cars the same shade of sludge? If you wind up getting a Porsche Taycan and you don’t immediately paint it pink, you’re going to Taste Jail.

Motorweek via YouTube—Being the proud performance-oriented brand that they are, Porsche could only sit back and watch Tesla parade around at ludicrous speed for so long. Time for them to enter the full-EV business in a big way, a way that only Porsche can. So let’s head out onto the track with the Taycan Turbo S.

Autoweek—If you’d like to see Porsche create a simple, relatively attainable spiritual successor to the midengine 914, you’re not alone: When we raised the idea of bringing the concept back in electric vehicle form earlier this year, the response was overwhelmingly positive.

Motor1—The Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur personalization division launches a new SportDesign and Aerokit packages for the 992-generation Porsche 911 that gives the Carrera models a more aggressive look for folks that don't feel like waiting for (or paying for) the future GT3 variant.

Autoblog—At this point, we’ve seen a whole lot of different 992 generation Porsche 911s. However, we’re still missing all the extra spicy versions. One of those is the 911 GTS, which, to keep the metaphor rolling, is a medium spice level Porsche 911. Porsche cranks everything up a little bit further than a Carrera S, and you get a slightly massaged exterior look, too.
|
Motor1—Two decades ago, it would be a travesty to say that SUVs are the bread and butter of Porsche. But that's the reality now. In 2019, the German marque sold more than double SUVs than cars in the U.S. That's a total of 41,668 Porsche SUVs sold, way more than the 19,900 cars the company moved in the same year.

| | The
Drive—The next-generation Porsche Macan due out in 2021 will exclusively be available with an electric powertrain. That doesn't mean the current, gasoline-powered car has reached the end of its lifecycle. It recently benefited from a mid-cycle update, and a new report claims it will be sold alongside the battery-powered model until at least 2024.

Porsche Newsroom—Automated and autonomous driving functions are impossible to implement without AI. The required computing capacity is provided by special chips specialized in parallel computing. But researchers are also working on new, biologically inspired solutions as well as on quantum computers that promise even more computing capacity.
