PCA—It was just before Veteran’s Day 2019 when my rally navigator, Marsha Kane, sent out the “Batman” signal to all of her friends — Priceless Pets needs volunteers to walk the dogs on the holiday. Priceless Pets is a no-kill animal rescue operation that, like PCA, depends on
volunteers to fulfill its mission: Rescuing animals from a variety of unfortunate circumstances.
Marsha is a good friend of mine and has been volunteering there for a while now. She walks dogs, feeds them, does the dishes, and even does laundry. I decided I would go in just this once to see this place I had been hearing such good things about and get my fill of animal loving, too.

and Driver—A decade ago, if someone had said that the highest-performing Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Corvette would not be available with a manual transmission but that a Porsche 911 Carrera S would, you'd get laughed out of the bar. We're pretty sure that Porsche and Volkswagen Group executives from that era wouldn't have taken that bet. The decline in the 911's manual take rate really started with the 997 refresh that brought dual-clutch automatic transaxles (PDK in Porsche-speak) to
the brand for the 2009 model year. Now, in its home market, only a single-digit percentage of 911 buyers opt to shift themselves. In the United States, it's a different story. Roughly one in five 911 buyers go for the stick.

| | Engineering Explained via YouTube—Porsche Surface Coated Brakes have a thin layer of tungsten carbide on the outside of the rotor. This tungsten carbide layer means no rust, significantly less brake dust, and they don't have brake fade typical of cast-iron brake rotors. The tungsten carbide layer is applied using high velocity oxygen fuel spray, and provides a rotor that lasts about 30% longer than traditional iron rotors. Better performance
comes at a price, but they're about 1/3 the cost of carbon ceramic rotors. These PSCB rotors come standard on the Porsche Cayenne Turbo and Cayenne Coupe Turbo. Check out the video to learn all about Porsche's world-first brakes!

TopSpeed—Back in the 1990s, Porsche 911 sales were so slow that the German carmaker had to develop an SUV, the Cayenne, to return to profitability. Come 2020, and the Porsche 911 is the most profitable car in the world. According to Bloomberg, the 911 accounted for nearly
30 percent of total Porsche earnings in 2019, even though it made up only 11 percent of the company’s sales.
