PCA—Following on the heels of our modern-day renderings of what a new 914EV and a Panamera-based 928 would look like, we thought we’d try resurrecting the 944/968. Here is Editor Rob Sass’ take on the case for bringing back the
944, and how it might be done.

e-Brake News to debut new mobile-friendly design in August

PCA—Next week, for the first e-Brake News of August, you’ll notice that when the newsletter is delivered to your inbox, it will have a new, more functional design to better present PCA and Porsche content from all over the web. Over the past five years, since
the newsletter’s look was last updated, e-Brake has surpassed 100,000 subscribers, and many of you have provided feedback to help make it better. We’ve been listening.
e-Brake’s mobile experience will be vastly improved with a responsive email template, which will make it equally as easy to read on your smartphone as on a desktop computer. While we don’t expect any deliverability problems, next week's newsletter will be sent to you over a period of 48 hours, starting Monday, August 3. If you don’t receive e-Brake by August 6, please check your spam
folder and be sure that the newsletters@pca.org email address is safelisted. Subsequent newsletters will be delivered Tuesday evenings. If you continue to have any issues, please email the editor, Damon Lowney, at damonl@pca.org.

and Driver—We drove the cars on Saturday morning. Stepping out into the courtyard at the Mas d'Artigny, high above Nice, we could peer out through the gate to the parking lot and see a whole bouquet of gleaming Porsche 928s awaiting our pleasure. Sun shining, temperature about 45 degrees Fahrenheit, a perfect day to drive the most spectacular production car to come along in ten years.

The Drive—Wagon worshippers know that some of the best longroof designs can come from the unlikeliest of places. The sleek lines of certain sports cars or grand tourers, for example, lend themselves to a shooting brake conversion—the Jaguar XJS, Corvettes, and most front-engine
Ferraris to name a few. However, I submit that the Porsche 944 is the perfect example of a performance car that really should've been offered as a performance wagon, too.

| | CarBuzz—The Porsche 718 Cayman and Boxster GTS 4.0 and debuted earlier this year to replace the outgoing GTS models and slot below the GT4. While the GTS 4.0 has less power than the GT4, its performance shouldn't be underestimated. SportAuto recently put the GTS 4.0 through its paces at the Hockenheim GP circuit in Germany, where it posted an extremely impressive lap time.

| | Jalopnik—The Porsche 944, like every other mildly cool car from the ’80s and ’90s, is starting to be appreciated anew now that it’s old enough to stoke nostalgia. The Porsche factory went ahead and restored this 1991 944 S2, essentially the ultimate production 944, to new-spec and looks sweet.

| | Roadshow by CNET—When Porsche announced a move to turbocharging across nearly the entire 911 range for the 991.2 generation, there was some concern that it might just undermine the legitimacy of the proper Turbo. That is, the one with the capital T and the swollen fenders and the swollen MSRP to match.

Motor1—Enthusiasts like to paint a rosy picture of sports-car shoppers. Everyone drives the big, fire-breathing models with manual gearboxes, rear-wheel drive, and all the safety nannies set to OFF. The colors are lurid, the wings are huge, and the cabins spartan. But the real
world, with its traffic, speed bumps, and only occasional opportunities for fun, has other ideas.

Business Insider—Porsche is simply crushing it these days. Its lineup of vehicles is basically second to none, ranging from classic sports cars, such as the 911 and Cayman/Boxster/Spyder, to SUVs like the legendary Cayenne and popular Macan, to executive four-door versions of the

Hagerty—The controversial Porsche 356 RSR by Rod Emory and Momo is up for sale at RM Sotheby’s Shift/Monterey online auction in August.
Porsche purists hated on this creation, the craziest yet by the 356 custom specialist, when it was revealed in May 2019. “People had strong reactions, it was too over the top,” said Emory. That’s something of an understatement.

Motor1—Porsche may have just set a Nürburgring lap record for sedans, using the massaged and tweaked Panamera "Lion." As we reported last year, the Lion is a lightened and more powerful (and officially unconfirmed) version of the Porsche Panamera Turbo, and our sources say one
might have claimed the Green Hell’s lap record for sedans with a time of 7 minutes and 11 seconds. (Ed.: Please note, this is speculation based on reports from the Nürburgring.)

NPR—One chapter of the Dieselgate saga has come to a close: Volkswagen and Porsche have finished paying out $9.5 billion in compensation to defrauded U.S. car owners.
The Federal Trade Commission filed its final report on the settlement Monday, declaring the process "materially complete."
