| | PCA—First-gen Cayennes have been looking good to me for a while, and it was only a matter of time before I found the right one via The Mart. When a heavily optioned Crystal Silver S popped up with all the right maintenance freshly done, the deal was closed in a nanosecond.

PCA—Color is a perennially hot topic in the Porsche world. A genuine Paint-to-Sample car carries a certain amount of cachet to it that extends to resale time. But what about uniquely colored Porsches that weren’t PTS cars? Cars that weren’t even born in the color they’re presently wearing? What affect does that have on desirability and value? The answer is, like so many answers in the Porsche
world, both nuanced and complicated.

Instead of halting auctions entirely, however, auction companies have taken to the web for their sales. This one by Mecum isn’t selling real Porsches, but rare Porsche posters — 36 to be
exact.

PCA—This edition of PCA Club Racing’s Driveway to Raceway features Robbie Wilson. Robbie has raced with PCA since he was legally allowed to do so, but he started much younger than that. He hasn't only been racing; he's been winning. Robbie has won his class in the 944 Cup National Championship twice, the PCA National Championship Points Series once, and finished in third overall another year. With two of
those series championships in 2019, he shows no sign of letting the competition off any time soon.

PCA—Every year across Porsche Club of America, members are making a difference with many heartwarming and thoughtful acts of kindness. This week's edition of Members Making a Difference highlights just a few of the things several PCA sponsors and advertisers are doing around the country to help others during the covid-19 pandemic.

| | PCA—The Targa-roofed 914, a joint venture with Volkswagen, was Porsche's first mid-engined production street car. Lightweight and well-balanced, over 118,000 914s of all stripes were produced from 1969 to 1976, making it one of era’s best-selling sports cars.

Motor Trend—One day, as his son tells us in this video from RUF, service garage owner Alois Ruf Sr. was driving a bus when a Porsche 356 Karmann notchback tried to pass him. It lost control, slid into the ditch, and rolled a few times. He made sure the driver was alright, then bought the car and fixed it up. Later, he sold it for an eye-opening profit. There's something about Porsche owners,
the Rufs realized. Ruf's son developed an abiding passion for 911s, and by the time Porsche itself decided the 911 was a dead end and started pushing the 928 on enthusiasts, Ruf Jr. saw his opportunity.

Autocar—Tuesday, 9.23am - Brooklands museum: It has just gone opening time at the oldest purpose-built motorsport circuit in the world and, in front of the century-old clubhouse, a small crowd is gathering.
Early-bird visitors to Brooklands Museum are getting a look at an impromptu exhibit: a trio of modern motorsport-derived production cars whose designs and origins make them at once fundamentally alike but also fascinatingly different from each other.

Car and Driver—This is very likely the least expensive new Porsche 911 you'll ever lay eyes on. At $106,290, it has a mere $7540 in options, which, if you don't believe is a picture of restraint, go spend a few minutes on Porsche's online configurator. This car had just four add-ons: a Sport Exhaust system ($2950); the Sport Chrono package, which includes launch control ($2720); Lane Change
Assist, which most other automakers call blind-spot detection ($1060); and Sport Seats Plus ($810). Let's see if the extreme low end of the 911 lineup lives up to six-figure sports-car expectations.

| | Automobile—Immediately following the conclusion of World War II, times were tough for Porsche. The budding automaker still reeled from the war's socioeconomic and infrastructural ravages, and the death of family patriarch and brand founder Ferdinand Porsche in 1951 didn't help to calm the waters. Of course, the 356 soon achieved success starting in the mid-1950s, with over 75,000 sold between 1948 and 1965, but not before Porsche buoyed its
financial standings with various contract engineering projects.

Hagerty—We have been down so long that I’m making plans.
Forgive me for mentioning the calendar. Where are we now—four weeks? A hundred? Time flies when you’re having fun. When you’re stuck indoors during a global health lockdown, time wobbles a little on takeoff, then suffers structural failure at the wing roots before pinwheeling into a tree.

and Driver—The 2020 Porsche Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid Coupe makes it hard to hate on SUVs. Someone at Porsche went down the list of reasons the high-riding machines get a bad rap and crossed them out one by one. Weak-sauce performance? Nope, this one's as spicy as a 670-hp ghost pepper. An overpowered affront to the planet? Oh look, its mighty twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 is partnered with a 134-hp electric motor for both extra performance and (somewhat) friendly fuel economy. A soulless bar
of soap on wheels? Not so much. While the conventional squared-off Porsche Cayenne possesses pretty much the same traits, this sloped-back Coupe version looks a bit cooler, even if it's less practical.

Trend—The 992-generation Porsche 911 just got here, but already the car is slated to receive a host of equipment updates for the 2021 model year. Buyers can look forward to a new exterior color option, wider availability of the steep-driveway-friendly front-end lift feature, a leather interior package named after the legendary Porsche 930, and—if you live in Europe—a seven-speed manual transmission option for Carrera S and 4S models.
|
Car and Driver—While much of the global auto industry has been forced to shut down by the coronavirus pandemic, some of it is still working hard—especially the engineers developing new models. We were intrigued to see pictures and videos from prototype test sessions at the Nürburgring—while most of Germany is under lockdown conditions—so we decided to take a closer look at the challenges of
vehicle engineering in the age of COVID-19.
|
Automobile—German tuner TechArt is back with new ways to upgrade your Porsche 911—this time the newest 992-generation Carrera S and Carrera 4S models. It has a new power package that unlocks an extra 80 horsepower from the 911s, plus an exhaust system that amps up their flat-six engines' volume.
| | |
| | Motor1—Singer Vehicle Design is keeping busy because just days after showing off the Honor Roll commission the skilled Porsche 911 tuners showcase the Warren Commission before the handoff to the new owner. Like everything else the company creates, the vehicle looks amazing at first glance and gets even more impressive as you dig into the details.
|
Hagerty—The 992-generation of the Porsche 911 is now available with a seven-speed manual gearbox, as long as you choose the Carrera S, 4S coupé or the cabriolet. All standard 911s feature turbocharged flat-sixes and PDK automatics now, but before Porsche’s core sports cars go fully electrified, we’ll get a new naturally-aspirated GT3, both in big-winged and Touring trim. Expect an optional,
beefier manual gearbox as well.

and Driver—At the top of a list of "things that are worth getting excited about" is any hint at the possibility of a potential Porsche 918 Spyder successor. Understandably, we got really excited when we found a design patent from Porsche. It depicted a supercar that looked like a road-ready version of the 917 Living Legend concept that Porsche unveiled last year. We reached out to Porsche for a comment on the design patents for this supercar and their response was deflating, to say the
least. Let us explain.

Roadshow by CNET—So you've got yourself a new-ish Porsche, and things were going pretty well until this whole coronavirus thing happened. Now it's the end of April, and your Macan's warranty runs out next month, the Check Engine light is on and you just got laid off. What are you going to do? Panic?

Photo by John Lucey. Wild Rose Region. "1983 Porsche 911 Turbo. As the year suggests, it was originally a gray-market import. It found its way to me in Calgary via Toronto and California. I've had it for about 10 years now and only drive in the summer. It had many
upgrades done but none by me. Its a great drive and during our long winter months I love to just go out to the garage and look at it! The classic and in my opinion the best looking Porsche ever!"
Got a stunning shot you want to share? Submit your pictures to potw@pca.org. Be sure to include your contact information, your region name, and a few sentences about your picture.
