| | PCA—It’s hard to believe the 992-generation 911 Carrera S/4S debuted more than a year ago, but since then Porsche has rolled out a manual-transmission option for the S models, introduced the regular Carrera, and now launched the 911 Targa 4 and Targa 4S. The semi-convertible-top Targa 4S splits the Carrera coupes and drop-top Cabriolets.

European vacation. BMW became the latest killjoy when it recently announced that it was discontinuing European delivery for American customers. Porsche AG on the other hand remains committed to offering this experience to its North American customers and others, and this month, marks the 70th anniversary of its revered factory collection program.

| | PCA—Porsche owners are a passionate lot who know what they want. Not prepared to wait for the RS 2.7 in 1972, a German entrepreneur ordered a custom 1972 911S 2.6, the only one of its kind, proving that sometimes “Impatience is a Virtue.” The Porsche Classic Center in Oslo, Norway also caters to those who know what they want with a very special retro-build called the Sooner that we got to drive in "The Sooner the Better." Engineer Jim Earlbeck
so appreciates the focused purpose of his 987 Porsche Boxster Spyder, it’s almost as if they are “Soul Mates.” Bob and Cam Ingram are mainstays on the concours circuit, but tragedy struck when an explosion destroyed many of their classic cars. Undeterred, they raced to restore a 1961 Carrera Abarth GTL (watch the Road Scholars video here), because “Pebble Can’t Wait.” One of the bright spots on the annual calendar is Werks
Reunion, and we went “Back to Werks” for the 10th anniversary, and a celebration of the 914.
All that plus more intrigue in “The Spy Collector”, and a remembrance of Sir Stirling Moss.
|
PCA—Cam Ingram and his crew at Road Scholars are known to perform top-flight restorations of all types of Porsches, including this über-rare 1961 Porsche Abarth 356 Carrera GTL. The difference with the Abarth's restoration was that it had to be completed, from start to finish, in
four months to make Pebble Beach in 2019.

PCA—The Mart will likely always be a work in progress. It’s a constant object of our attention to keep it as safe a space as we can, weeding out scammers and those posing as commercial sellers. Although it looks like little has changed for some time, we haven’t been ignoring the
presentation and usability of The Mart. In fact, we’ve been working on an improved version for well over a year. The online version will make its debut on June 1, and the August issue of Porsche Panorama will reflect the changes made to the print version.

| | IMSA—In a series of video conferences with stakeholders earlier today, IMSA revealed its plans to return to racing this summer with a revised 2020 calendar for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge.
The WeatherTech Championship will return July 4 at Daytona International Speedway. This Fourth of July event will feature an evening race with WeatherTech as its entitlement partner and a live television broadcast on NBCSN.

| | PCA—With the recent growth of PCA’s Sim Racing program, we have added a summer iRacing series before the fall Series 5 schedule begins. The Summer Fun series is a great way to get started in PCA Sim Racing and will even feature two weekly identical Wednesday night events, one on Eastern time and one Western time, allowing for more racer flexibility in their schedule. If you’d like to get involved in PCA Sim Racing, this is a fun and casual way
to get started and gain skills before the big fall Series 5 kick off.

Autocar—The BMW M8 Competition could sit in the goldilocks zone between straight-talking sports cars, like the Porsche 911, and traditional grand tourers like the Bentley Continental GT.
To find out, we grouped the three together: the M8 Competition coupe, with its 4.4-litre twin turbocharged V8, the Bentley, with its 4.0-litre twin turbo V8, and the Porsche, with its 3.0-litre flat six (and twin turbos).

| | PCA—Due to the novel Coronavirus and the disease it causes, COVID-19, automotive events around the world have been postponed or cancelled, and events held by and/or related to Porsche Club of America are no exception. Below is a list of PCA National and Porsche-related events and their current statuses. We will update this page as more information becomes available. PCA National-hosted events are in bold.
|
The Drive—The Euro 7 regulations are supposed to kick in for 2026 and so far promise to be the strictest to date regarding real-world emissions data—not just what can be replicated in a lab. Porsche's Frank Steffen-Walliser, the vice president of the 911 and 718 lines, recently
explained to Wheels that Euro 7 sets a limit on power per liter of engine size, thus scrapping the current solution of making smaller and smaller cylinders pump out more power with forced induction.
| | |
| | Hagerty—In flying, the faster you go, generally, the less fun it is. A Piper Cub is a 70-mph epinephrine rush with your arm slung out the open window and your feet dancing on the pedals as you try to avoid the clouds of migrating murder hornets. Meanwhile, a guy in a barely-sub-mach biz jet flips on the autopilot 500 feet after wheels-up and lets the computer guide the missile to the target. In that realm, it’s all about arriving tout de suite.
The new Porsche 911 Turbo S is a biz jet built for a world with endless runways.
|
Road & Track—Organizers for the 24 Hours of Le Mans announced they will be holding a virtual 24-hour race on June 13 and 14, the weekend the real race was originally supposed to take place, following its rescheduling amid coronavirus concerns.
| | |
| | Autoweek—You probably know the story of the 917/30. You probably saw it run in all its Can-Am Cup-quashing glory back in 1973, with its engineer Mark Donohue at the wheel. You may think motorsports had never been so good nor produced a car so dominant. And you’d be right.
|
Jalopnik—Putting upsized tires and a little lift on sports cars has been A Thing for some time. You might have seen these luxury rally cars described as “safari builds.” This Porsche 924 could be classified as such, but it’s actually set up for camping and pushes the safari idea
further into overlander territory in a cool way.
| | |
| | Automobile—Think of driving a roofless Porsche 911 and the traditional Cabriolet convertible version may not be the first model that comes to mind. The Porsche 911 Targa is why, with the well-known body-style eschewing the full convertible top for a single removable panel between the windshield header and the b-pillar. Convertibles had represented a large and important part of Porsche's prior 356 model sales, giving us the iconic Speedster and
more practical cabriolet. However, by the time the 911 was in production, the days of the typical full-convertible seemed as if they might be numbered. Here's some brief Porsche 911 Targa history to explain.
|
Autoblog—Had it been built, the Porsche 984 would be at the top of its game in 2020. It would have escaped the merciless mandibles of beater culture and the clean examples left would be trading hands for unreasonable sums on your favorite classifieds site. We'd be celebrating this
roadster, had Porsche not abruptly canceled the project.
|
Motor Trend—The yellow 2012 991 Porsche 911 Carrera S sat parked nose to nose with a Guards Red 2011 997 911 GTS. I'd just bombed in it from Santa Barbara to our test track at the California Speedway in Fontana. Over that approximately 150-mile drive I'd never stopped to consider
what the then new, seventh-generation Porsche 911 looked like. We were about to film our first-ever episode of Head 2 Head (the other head was a red C6 Corvette) and we'd be working around the clock. My job was simply delivering the car. But here I was, finally, able to relax and use my eyes. What a stunner. Yes, bigger than the car that came before it, but the 991's proportions were bang on. The car possessed a touch of 1930s streamliner character, and was both masterfully shaped and
masterfully surfaced. Just wow. Little did I know, I hadn't seen anything yet.
| | |
| | Jalopnik—I didn’t expect when I went to sleep last night to wake up with a nostalgia for 2008, but somehow—thanks to this incredible Porsche drift car—that’s exactly what happened. Back then I was still in college and was consuming possibly even more automotive media than I do now, and I was absolutely enamored with Formula Drift and Tyler McQuarrie’s JIC-Magic Hankook Porsche 993 GT2 drift car. Last night it was doing delicate pirouettes in my
dreams.

Car and Driver—Under normal conditions—which we're not in now—driving Germany's autobahn can be exasperating. On paper and in theory, you can travel as fast as you like. Indeed, not just the autobahn but every four-lane road in the Vaterland with a divider in the center
is devoid of a speed limit, unless otherwise posted.
|
Motor Trend—If LEGOs are too complicated, or you just want to cut straight to the scale toy fun, Playmobil offers a similar universe of playsets with much less assembly required. Playmobil's lower piece count per kit also ensures its toys offer greater realism—no weirdness with
curved surfaces made from tiny blocks. That pays dividends for car enthusiasts who, like us, discover that Playmobile has a budding Porsche lineup that not only offers solid realism, but off-kilter fantasy, as well.
