PCA—Porsche's 991 GT2 RS remains the most powerful and fastest 911 ever built, able to deploy 700 horsepower with a lightning-quick seven-
| | speed dual-clutch
automatic transmission and lap the Nürburgring in 6 minutes and 47 seconds. The 997 GT2 RS isn't quite as fast, came with a six-speed manual, and is a more visceral car to drive, but is it the better sports car? We drove both on the road and on track to find out.

PCA—Hans Mezger, the engineer behind some of Porsche’s greatest successes in motorsports and its venerable air-cooled flat six, died on June 10, 2020. He was 90 years old.
Among his many achievements are the development of the 911’s air-cooled flat six, the overall construction of the 917 (including its flat-12 engine) — Porsche’s first car to win overall at the 24 Hours of Le Mans — and a Formula 1 engine that powered McLaren's Niki Lauda and Alain Prost to several world championships.
| | PCA—The PCA leadership team has decided to cancel Werks Reunion Monterey on August 14, 2020. This is done with the health and safety of our members, volunteers, employees, and sponsors foremost in our minds. Cancelling the
event is in line with the state of California and County of Monterey guidelines regarding gatherings of this type. We share your disappointment.

PCA—The keys to success in racing are preparation and practice. Or you could be Bill and Don Whittington, who picked up a used 934 race car in 1978, took some driving classes, and entered the Sebring 12 Hours in their “Second-Hand Rose.” Many of us have pondered which 911
generation produced the best GT RS. Fortunately, with the help of member Sri Iyengar, Panorama was able to spend time in four special cars — the 997- and 991-generation GT2 RS, plus the 997 GT3 RS 4.0 and the 991 GT3 RS — to find out which is “The Best of the Best.” We've made the full article available to everyone online; click here to read it if you're not a
member. Be sure to also watch the accompanying video comparing the 997 and 991 GT2 RSs. In these uncertain times, relatively traffic-free mountain roads bring real joy. What better time and place to do a first drive of the 2021 911 Turbo S, truly a “Blue Chip Talent.” Longtime Porsche racer Jerry Peters had a vision of a car encompassing elements of both the 356 and the 901. Working
with a custom shop, he built a beautiful “Double Bubble” Outlaw.
All this, plus an update from PCA president Tom Gorsuch and the latest in virtual racing.

| | PCA—Since 2010, Porsche has produced several 911 GT RS cars, both in naturally aspirated and turbocharged flavors. When PCA member Sri Iyengar and his friend Reggie Draper approached us to do a road and track test of four of the most beloved high-performance Porsches extant, we couldn't refuse. For the first time, Porsche Panorama is making the Panorama article available to non-members. We hope you enjoy it!

| | PCA—Today Porsche announced two new variants of the Cayenne, the GTS and GTS Coupe, which feature unique styling cues and several performance options as standard. The SUVs slot in between their S and Turbo counterparts, and are considered the sportiest in the range.
|
PCA—The 911 has been at the pinnacle of performance from the day it was unleashed on the public in 1964, but the most radical form of the rear-engined sports car didn’t surface until 25 years ago at the 1995 Geneva International Motor Show: the 911 GT2. Since then, Porsche has
produced several more GT2s and GT2 RSs for each successive generation of the 911.

| | PCA—Cayenne owners tend to be conservative in their color choices. Grays, silvers, whites, and blacks predominate. But every now and then we see a Cayenne in an unusual or an eye-popping color. Here are five that have caught our eye recently. Do you own a Cayenne, or any other four-door in an unusual color? Be sure to head over to Rennbow.org(link is external), PCA’s Porsche color wiki, and upload a photo.

PCA—Father's Day is right around the corner, and perhaps this June 21 will be the day you don't give your dad a pair of PJs. To that end, we've assembled a gift guide filled with PCA and Porsche-related goodies that any Porsche-loving father would appreciate. Of course, there's
always a pair of pajamas.

YouTube—In Episode 6 of Tech Tactics Live, we took a deep dive into the new 992-generation 911 Turbo S with Rob Sass, Editor-in-Chief of Porsche Panorama. We're also reuniting the 992 Turbo S with the 993 Turbo, which paved the way for all subsequent 911 Turbos with all-wheel drive and twin-turbochargers.
Episode aired June 10 at 8 PM EDT.

TheSmokingTire via YouTube—We've covered three different versions of Porsche's 992 so far: The Carrera S, Carrera 4S, and Turbo S. But we've never reviewed a 911 Cabriolet before, and Porsche just launched the Carrera range with an available no-cost 7-speed manual transmission!
Though the car won't hit sixty as fast as a PDK car, it's 85 pounds lighter than PDK and a joy to use in all situations.

| | Overcrest—Recalling the life and accomplishments of Hans Mezger, engineer of some of the most legendary motors of all time. Alwin Springer, chief technician at Vasek Polak, and founder of Andial contributes as the guys dive deep on one of Porsche, and Mezgers biggest accomplishments, the indomitable 917.

Car and Driver—Emotion is often collateral damage to the grind of technological progress. We're not implying that cars have feelings—at least we wouldn't say it publicly, because that's a fast track to a padded room—but the best cars stir emotion in their
drivers.

| | Hagerty—In this livestream, we speak with automotive artist, Kelly Telfer, who has spent a lifetime capturing the cars that bring our imaginations to life. As the official artist for the Werks Reunion Monterey and Amelia Island events, he creates motorsports original paintings, fine art prints, and more.

| | PCA—Due to the novel Coronavirus and the disease it causes, COVID-19, automotive events around the world have been postponed or cancelled, and events held by and/or related to Porsche Club of America are no exception. Below is a list of PCA National and Porsche-related events and their current statuses. We will update this page as more information becomes available. PCA National-hosted events are in bold.
|
Autoblog—What does it take to make 640 horsepower’s worth of cutting-edge, 992-gen 2021 Porsche 911 Turbo S feel like last century’s technology? Simple. Drive it along a twisting backroad at pace and then return immediately to do the same in a Porsche Taycan Turbo. And be glad
your mother isn’t there to hear your response to what 670 instantly deployed electric horsepower feels like.

| | Autoweek—It is quiet at Road Atlanta. Too quiet. Summer is invading the hills and hollows, and afternoons tend to move slowly in this part of the country, but the stillness today is unwelcome. We are dead in the water, staring at a car and a motorcycle that have agreed to function no more. Danny Ongais has been here before, in this situation, and in this place, too. Ongais has a reputation, right or wrong, for caning his engines until they
retch their lubricants and their moving parts right out onto the pavement. Herb Porter says it's an undeserved reputation. Porter is Indianapolis's own wizened resident builder of racing engines, and he says Ongais is too smart of a racing driver to overwork his engines on purpose. If they let go, there is probably an internal fault. The mechanical seizures suffered in Georgia today are certainly not of his doing. Call it fate. And just when Ongais was starting to cook. Damn.
|
CarBuzz—Unveiled back in March, the 2021 Porsche 911 Turbo S is the current range-topper of the new 992-generation Porsche 911 range. With customer deliveries now underway, videos are emerging online showing owners recording themselves taking the potent sports car for a spin. From
YouTube channel AutoTopNL, this video puts you in the driver's seat of a 2021 Porsche 911 Turbo S being pushed to its absolute limits on an unrestricted section of the German autobahn.
| | |
| | Hoonigan AutoFocus via YouTube—You tend to see Porsches in one of two places: on a road course, or fully polished up in a parking lot/driveway/etc. But the fine folks at Kelly-Moss see much more potential behind this time-proven platform, which means their rear-engined German machines are made to shred on all surfaces. Including gravel and snow. But the best part? This 911 Safari TX is just as good inside as out, with next-level interior build
quality and modern updates.
|
Car and Driver—This is our 74,416th review of a Porsche 911. It's long been our goal to test every version of Porsche's rear-engine sports car, but there's more to this quest than pure journalistic curiosity. It's as much about love, admiration, and respect. Sure, we're eager to
report on the changes made to every variant of this unique machine, a process we started all over again 16 months ago with the introduction of the latest 911 model, code-named 992. But the joy of driving it again and again is its own reward. So, go ahead and call us 911 fanboys and fangirls; it's a badge we wear with honor.
| | |
Autocar—Speaking to Autocar before the unveiling of the new 911 Targa, Frank-Steffen Walliser admitted that it’s “not really feasible” to take Porsche’s new 4.0-litre engine (which is found in the Cayman GT4 and Boxster Spyder and detuned for use in the Cayman GTS and
Boxster GTS) and spend money on rotating it 180deg for use in the rear of the 911.
|
| | Roadshow by CNET—As much as you might love to drive a sports car like a Porsche 911, Boxster or Cayman all day, every day, until the end of time, life doesn't always make that a practical option. Running errands, schlepping kids and dealing with four seasons can prove challenging. That's where the Porsche Macan comes in.
