PCA—At recent press event sponsored by the Washington Automotive Press Association, Porsche Panorama was able to spend some seat time in what are arguably the closest competitors to the Cayenne and Macan,
namely the Maserati Levante and Alfa Romeo Stelvio. Here are some quick impressions on how they compare.

| | CarBuzz—The Porsche Taycan is a technological tour de force. Based on Porsche's bespoke J1 platform, Porsche's first EV incorporates a pair of electric motors that produce 750 hp and 774 lb-ft of torque in
the Turbo S model, enabling the electric sedan to sprint from 0-60 mph in 2.6 seconds. And now Porsche wants to adapt this advanced tech for its future electric models, starting with the upcoming Macan EV.
|
Motor Authority—It wasn't long after the Porsche Panamera debuted at the 2009 Shanghai auto show that pearl-clutching Porsche diehards spit through clenched teeth that the automaker had no business building
five-door, executive-level hatchbacks. Ten years later and 250,000 examples on the road, the Panamera still doesn't have time for doubters. On Tuesday, Porsche unveiled a package of Panamera 10 Year Editions for the 2020 Panamera.

| | Automobile—We had pulled off U.S. Route 395 in the small town of Independence, followed a road into the undistinguishable mountains of Inyo National Forest, and parked in a gravel pull-out. There, we folded
down the rear seats of the 2019 Porsche Cayenne S we were driving, unrolled our Nemo sleeping bags, and drifted into dreams as the faint outline of the Milky Way beamed in through the panoramic sunroof. Why did we decide to sleep in the third-generation Cayenne? Mainly because we didn't want to spend money on a motel room.

Road & Track—Cars are changing. They’re not just getting electrified and autonomous, they’re also getting taller and fatter. SUVs are subsuming traditional sedans and coupes – even when it comes to
performance vehicles. The times they are a-changing. Porsche in particular has led this charge. When the German automaker launched its Cayenne in 2003, the idea of a fast SUV was a novelty, but now they’re a dime-a-dozen. Today, the smaller Macan is Porsche’s bestselling model.

PCA—Porsche announced a third variant of its new Taycan electric sedan, the 4S, which slots under the more powerful and more expensive Turbo and Turbo S announced in early September. For now the Taycan 4S is the entry level model with either 522 or 563 horsepower depending on the choice of two lithium-ion batteries. Taycan 4S can be had
with either the Performance battery, a single-deck unit with a max capacity of 79.2 killowatt hours and a max charge capacity of 225 kilowatts, or the Performance Plus battery, with 93.4 kWh capacity and 270 kW of charging capacity.

911 Magazine on YouTube—The Porsche 989—prototype and predecessor of the Panamera. The type 530 of 1952 was Porsche’s first attempt to bring a sports car for four people to the road. The basis was the Porsche 356. It would remain a prototype. Further concept cars would follow—until the development of the type 989 began in 1988. It, too, would remain a concept car, but became the forerunner of the Porsche
Panamera. Take an exciting excursion into the company history.

| | Autoblog—The 2020 Porsche Macan Turbo proves to be incredibly surefooted when hammered through the treelined switchbacks around
Stuttgart. With its upgraded suspension, now-standard 20-inch wheels and Porsche’s Traction Management (PTM) all-wheel-drive system, Macan Turbo's handling greatly exceeds anything else labeled SUV. In reality, it can put a fair share of sports cars under pressure.
|
Jalopnik—Last year, Porsche face-lifted its best-selling car, the Macan. The revisions brought subtle, but meaningful changes to the small SUV to help it keep pace with new competition. Today, we see the new, 2020 Macan Turbo, which does a little more with a little less. Replacing the old 3.6-liter 400-hp twin-turbo V-6 is a new, 434-hp 2.9-liter with the same amount of pistons and
turbochargers.
| | |
| | Wheels24—When it comes to mid-size premium SUVs, the Porsche Macan has a bevy of rivals... on paper. From the Alfa Romeo Stelvio, BMW X3 M Competition and the Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 there are several
high-performance SUVs on the market. In order to keep those rivals at bay, the Macan Turbo benefits from a face lift from Zuffenhausen. With a new 2.9-litre biturbo V6 engine, the Macan Turbo now has 324kW and 550Nm, resulting in a 4.3 second 0-100km/h sprint time and onto a claimed 270km/h top speed. It has 30kW more power compared to its predecessor.

Gear Patrol—Driving through central Oregon, the terrain feels comfortingly familiar. It’s western, but not really a desert; hilly, but not exactly mountainous. Evergreens are abundant, as are lakes. But
if you head deep enough into McKenzie Pass, a few hours east of Eugene, you may as well be on the Moon. The terrain goes from green rolling hills to an inky black wasteland. The summit of the Pass sits in the middle of a basaltic andesite lava flow, created hundreds of thousands of years ago and now a crumbly, inhospitable landscape of undulating black terrain that looks as lunar as anything on Earth.
| | |
| | MANOFMANY—The world was abuzz when Lamborghini released the Urus, but now that SUV is being toppled from the podium by Porsche’s Cayenne Turbo S E Hybrid. The new Cayenne outmuscles Lamborghini’s offering
with 670 horsepower and 663 lb-ft of torque—that’s 29 horsepower and 36 lb-ft more than Urus—and it’s doing it with a gas-electric hybrid. The Cayenne Turbo has a twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 that on its own is pretty impressive, pumping out 541 horsepower and 567 lb-ft.
|
GT Spirit—This is a big deal and perhaps the most significant car I have ever written about in my short, prepubescent life as an editor writing about cars. I am also a sceptic of electric cars, I am just not
a fan, this is a chance for Porsche to change my views. Some 350 journalists have been driving the Taycan before me, specifically the Turbo and Turbo S models, on a mega road trip starting in Oslo. Nineteen days later, the convoy would reach the spiritual home of Porsche, Stuttgart and I had the honour of driving the final leg of the journey from Berlin. Stepping into the Taycan is quite an overwhelming experience for me.

| | Motor 1—Interesting things are happening at the Nurburgring these days. Mazda is there with a prototype of the RX-8, likely training a new development driver, and Porsche is turning laps around the famous
track with a Panamera test car. This isn’t the facelifted version we spied earlier this year, which leaves us with a question in our minds – what is the Stuttgart-based company working on? If you take a closer look at the registration plates of this Panamera, you’ll notice it’s a different car to all previous prototypes we’ve spotted on the ‘Ring. Still, it looks very similar to the one we filmed back in August this year but it’s lacking the additional aero body components.
|
The Drive—Stuttgart bet the farm on the first-generation Porsche Cayenne in 2002. The company was in near ruins, hemorrhaging cash, and without a new hit in years. But the Cayenne succeeded in that critical
moment when most believed failure was imminent. It was helped by the nascent crossover boom, sure, but it also offered great on-road handling, real off-road ability, and a ludicrous options list—including the forgotten but incredible rear-mounted spare tire.
| | |
| | Road Show by CNET—Replacing worn tires with new ones can be a pain-free process -- just buy the same brand, model and size fitted to your vehicle by the automaker when it was new. But there are a variety of
brands, models and sizes available that could affect how your car handles in certain weather conditions, and the variety does allow you to switch things up. For most people, tires come in three distinct flavors -- summer, winter or all-season. Each is designed for a specific set of parameters, which are different between brands, and each has particular pros and cons.
|
The Smoking Tire on YouTube—The Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid is Porsche's most powerful SUV, and also its heaviest. It makes 670 HP from a twin-turbo 4.0L V8 mated to a very trick plug-in hybrid system which can
drive in Pure EV, combined hybrid, Pure Gasoline, or Charge mode. Even at 5,700 lbs, the Cayenne TSEH will do 0-60 in under four seconds and top out at 183 mph!

| | All Star Space on YouTube— We have been driving the Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo 4s for a year now - find out what we love in our 12mth review! Let us know if you would go for a Porsche Panamera Sport
Turismo or the regular Panamera (money no object).
|
| | PCA—We will restrict this conversation to the latter – tires. Also, excluding rock-crawling and mud-holing in deference to Overlanding. Tires are probably the item with the widest selection of
options for how one wants to use their vehicle second to wheels. For our ’86 Targa the availability of tires appropriate for autocross to fit our 15” wheels dried up. After purchasing 16” Fuchs we again had a selection to be competitive again. Even there, the selection ranged from R compounds that are not street legal, to grippy extreme performance summer tires, neither of which are appropriate in cold temperatures to street and winter tires.

PCA—What would an 81-year-old man and 78-year-old woman on Oxygen want to do more than drive across the Country in their new Panamera 4 E-Hybrid? Nothing...that is what they did. Ralph and Elynn are now a
two-Porsche family. We belong to Riverside Region Porsche Club. Elynn’s Dream Car for years was a new Porsche Boxster (Guards Red) which we purchased in 2016. Now Ralph saw the light and we ordered our 2nd Porsche on 10/6/18 which was a new 2019 Porsche Panamera 4 E-Hybrid which we carefully customized to our specifications

| | PCA—Porsche makes cars that are fun to drive — most people know that. But to fully enjoy a Porsche, I believe that working on it is the only way to make the ownership experience complete. Porsche vehicles are
so well designed that, without working on it with your own hands, you will never find out why the MSRP is a steal. Every part is designed and engineered so precisely and beautifully. Every piece of software is written so logically and so thoughtfully. Suddenly, it is not surprising anymore that Porsches have won so many races since the 1950s.

PCA—On Saturday, August 24th, the Oregon PCA SUV Group gathered at the Lewis & Clark State Recreation site for our 8:30am departure to Windy Ridge near Mt. St. Helens. The small but capable group of five
SUVs headed east on I-84 to Cascade Locks where we gladly paid our $2 toll to cross The Bridge of the Gods from Oregon into Washington State. We traveled further east to Carson before turning north toward Mt. St. Helens. Along the way, we enjoyed some beautiful scenery and wonderful winding roads to our first stop, McClellan View Point.
