PCA—The November issue of Porsche Panorama features the first driving impressions of the new all-electric Taycan. The drive took place in Scandinavia in September. Now, the first cars are beginning to show up in the North American
press fleet, so we had the opportunity to drive the Turbo version of the car for the first time in American traffic (formidable LA traffic to be exact). Here’s a quick take on what it was like.

Thenewsmarket—The Porsche Taycan is celebrating its US premiere at the LA Auto Show on 20 November 2019. The all-electric, four-door sports saloon offers the performance and connectivity expected of a Porsche, with everyday usability.
Highly advanced production methods and the Taycan’s capabilities are setting new standards in the fields of sustainability and digitalisation. Taking centre stage on the Porsche stand will be the new Taycan 4S, which now becomes the starting point of a range that has until now only consisted of the Taycan Turbo and Taycan Turbo S.

| | Motor Trend—A former SUV of the Year winner and the vehicle credited for putting Porsche back in the black, this year's Porsche Cayenne arrived at SUV of the Year in plug-in e-Hybrid (PHEV) guise. Although we knocked it for its merely
evolutionary exterior design, it's what's inside that counts.
|
Car and Driver—We reported earlier this month that Porsche and Lucasfilm will be partnering up for the new movie Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker. Our first thought was: could a Star Wars–themed Taycan be in the works? Well, this isn’t
that, but we did get something pretty cool out of the deal. The creators of the electric sports sedan and the Star Wars franchise have been meeting and are designing a starship together that will "have a future role to play in the Star Wars galaxy," according to Porsche.

|
Top Speed—So, what are we looking at here? A traditional wagon with a twin-turbo V-8 pitted against a squished one from the House of Zuffenhausen that, besides the twin-turbo V-8, packs a hybrid system. The Porsche is over $190,000 while the Merc starts at little over $110,0000.
| | |
| | TheThings—Tesla has maintained a stranglehold on the EV market for the past few years, as Elon Musk has successfully led the global charge into the next
evolutionary step for the automotive industry. But other manufacturers have caught on and are catching up with some impressive offerings slated to hit the streets in the next few months and years.
|
Motor1—The Panamera still feels quite fresh in our opinion, but the second generation of Porsche’s liftback was unveiled more than three years ago, so no wonder the folks from Stuttgart are preparing a mid-cycle refresh. In typical Porsche fashion, the cosmetic revisions will be kept down to a minimum, with this prototype only hiding the revised graphics of the headlights and taillights.

| | Road/Show By CNET—There are plenty of reasons to like the Porsche Panamera. Fast, comfortable, and -- finally -- pleasing to the eye, Porsche's four-door is
an absolute delight. Whether you go for the most basic Panamera, the superfluously powered (and named) Turbo S E-Hybrid Sport Turismo, or something in between, there isn't a dud among 'em. Yet if I'm forced to pick a favorite, it might just be the newest member of the Panamera family.
|
Motor1—EVs have a clear advantage over cars powered by combustion engines in a drag race thanks to the instant torque delivered by the electric motors making them way quicker off the line. Torque is of greater importance when you’re
dealing with a heavy vehicle such as an SUV, with the Porsche Cayenne and Tesla Model X being two relevant examples
| | |
| | SuperCars—The Porsche Taycan is the car company’s new production electric vehicle. It is designed to put everything that people know and love from the company into a new platform of car that’s powered entirely by electricity. It’s also
the car that’s set to kick off Porsche’s leap in electrification. The company has bought stake in Rimac, one of the leaders in the battery technology world and the electric supercar world, and you can expect future electric Porsches to be on the cutting edge.
|
Clean Technica—Porsche has a new EV-specific insurance policy called “Taycan policy.” The insurance offering adds battery and charging station insurance to typical mobility insurance. Here are some more details from Porsche:
“Furthermore, the digital insurance package ‘Porsche Shield’ – which can be used to add extra insurance components to an existing car insurance policy – has been expanded to include ‘E-Cover’.”

| | Car Buzz—Last month, a report emerged claiming that Porsche is preparing to unleash a new hardcore version of the Panamera Turbo called the "Lion." The stripped-out sedan is allegedly being developed to set a new Nurburgring lap record
and has been uprated to between 750 hp and 820 hp. It's believed this setup will enable the Panamera to conquer the grueling Green Hell in just seven minutes and 10 seconds, beating the current record set by the Lynk & Co 03 Cyan concept by 10 seconds.
|
Cars.com—The verdict: The Cayenne impresses on the road with fantastic performance credentials, but SUVs need to do more than that, and its control scheme is confounding. Versus the competition: Though the Cayenne can drive circles
around much of its competition, other vehicles offer more family-friendly features at lower prices.
| | |
| | Motor Authority—A new body style for Porsche's Taycan electric sport sedan has been spotted in prototype form. The prototype is the production version of the Mission E Cross Turismo concept Porsche rolled out at the 2018 Geneva
International Motor Show. The production version will be known as the Taycan Cross Turismo when it makes its debut sometime in 2020.

PCA—On November 10, 2019 Northern New Jersey Region of the Porsche Club of America hosted its sixth Pine Barrens ‘Off-Road’ Excursion. This year’s event motto was “FORGOTTEN ROADS”. The event is designed to provide PCA
members with Cayennes, Macans and other four-wheel drive vehicles with a small sample of ‘life on the wild side’, without putting the occupants at risk. That is not to say you will not get a little dirty, but nothing that a good car wash won’t correct.
| | |
| | PCA—Our Oregon Region PCA has a traditional last Arrive and Drive event of the year in October, called the Sausage Run. As this marks the Oktoberfest season, the tour ends in the German-inspired village of Mount Angel south of
Portland, in a German-style restaurant called Glockenspiel (Ring of Bells), hence the name Sausage Run. Perfect! Well, this year the plan for October was not to have a Sausage Run, but instead have the last Arrive and Drive end in an American restaurant in a different town. Some nicknamed this event the Vegan Run. Maybe not so perfect for Oktoberfest!

PCA—It’s going on 5 months since I received this new car. My previous car was a Cayman S. I ordered this car with the premium package, adaptive cruise control and rear steering for a grand total of $121k out the door. What many in the
car magazines get wrong is its usable electric range. Many magazines quote 17 miles all electric. In fact, 27-31 miles is what I normally see with a 2.5-hour charge to full at 220Volts. This is very usable mileage in a small town or city environment and works up to 85mph. On the freeway when all the electric is gone, recharging via the gas/petrol motor is done in around 30 miles of highway driving giving you another 27-31 electric miles.

| | PCA—You are probably asking yourself why you need to attach importance to navigation. There is a perfectly good GPS in your vehicle and there isn’t a map or a compass within ~ five miles from your home. Granted, the navigation aid
in your P-car is reliable and hardly ever leads you astray, but it does happen and usually at the most inconvenient of times. Besides, maps are fun and a compass can create an adventure or even save your life.
